New York
Main card fight (heavyweight 265lbs)
Jay Rome Banana (2-2) [0-0] vs Sam Makatua (1-2) [0-0]
Going into this fight, Banana has only been defeated by way of submission. He obviously is no master of the jitz-game, so this change from MMA to boxing should be very beneficial for him. His two wins are coming off kick-boxing fights, where he won both bouts by T(KO). He comes into this fight with a slight height advantage at 191cm, and a 20lbs advantage at 250lbs. In order for him to win, he should use his clinch game and dirty box his way to a decision or late TKO. His opponent, Makatua, makes his GR debut as the superior boxer. However, he has been knocked out previously and is coming into this fight with a 2 fight losing streak. The New Zealander should look to keep this fight at a distance and look for an opportunity to capitalise and knock his opponent out.
My prediction: Makatua by decision
Main card fight (light heavyweight 185lbs)
Hugo Decoste (7-8) [0-0] vs Archie Stewart (8-3) [0-0]
Decoste's achilles heel is his grappling in MMA. He has lost 6 out of his 8 lost fights by submission. He has never fought in kickboxing or boxing before, so he'll be eager to showcase his striking skills without being grappled-humped on the canvas. He sports a 7-8 record, with 4 T(KO) wins and 3 decisions. He has been knocked out once before in his career. Skill-wise, this fight is even. Both fighters are brilliant boxers and both can employ an equally devastating clinch game. Stewart, is the elder fight at 28, and has never fought in kickboxing or boxing before. He is incredibly well-rounded, but he's been blamed for being a decision-machine in the past. Out of his 8 wins, only 2 come by finishes. However, he has been knocked out three times, so we'll see if his chin will hold up against Decoste.
My prediction: Stewart by decision
Main card fight (light heavyweight 185lbs)
Mak Artur (17-13) [0-0] vs Billy Silver (11-8) [0-0]
This is my pick of the fight of the night. Both fighters have been knocked out before, Artur has been knocked out 7 times, while Silver 3 times. Artur is the better boxer, while Silver utilises the clinch better. Artur is the shorter fighter at 170cm, while Silver is 15cm taller at 185. Silver is coming in the heavier man at a natural weight of 197lbs, compared to a slightly worrying 156lbs of Artur. "The General" does not possess natural KO power, he has only won by T(KO) three times in his 17 wins, however he may decide to simply keep the pace up and use volume punches to slowly pick Silver apart. Silver on the other hand, is in love with his hands. He has a 81% KO rate out of his wins, proving that he is no slouch in the boxing department. Both fighters are coming off wins, so this should be really interesting.
My prediction: Silver by T(KO) - uppercut from the clinch
Co-main event (heavyweight 265lbs)
TJ Heisman (8-6) [0-0] vs Frank Sigurdsson (26-19) [0-0]
We move on to our co-main event of the night. My prediction is that this fight will end quickly. Both of these heavyweights have crazy knockout power, TJ has won by T(KO) in 6 of his 8 wins, while Frank has had the pleasure of knocking out every opponent that he has beaten. 26 KO's for Frank, and a 100% finish rate. However, the seasoned 40 year old has been sent to Schaub-land 15 times in his career. He is coming off 4 losses in a row, and is looking to give boxing one more try to get a title he so much wants. At 209cm, he is the taller fighter out of the two, however weight-wise they should be the same. He should be looking to keep the fight at bay and explode and knock TJ out in order to win. I am not sure if he will be able to hang with a younger TJ for all 5 rounds. TJ, the young gun at only 25, will be looking to add Sigurdsson to his already-impressive resume. He has considerable KO power, which should be enough to knock out Frank if he touches his chin. This is an interesting match-up, if TJ hits Frank's aged and weakened chin, he should be able to get the W. However, Frank still possesses some crazy KO power, so if he shows up in shape for this fight, he should get the W.
My prediction: Frank by KO - left lead hook in the 2nd round
Main event (heavyweight 265lbs)
Jorge Cruz (33-24) [0-0] vs Ken Norton (11-4) [0-0]
And now to the main event of the fight. Boxing-wise, the fight is pretty even, however Jorge has a massive advantage in the clinch. Cruz has laid 30 people out in his career, only winning 3 other fights by decision. Likewise, Norton has won by T(KO) in all of his professional wins. Both fighters have been knocked out before, Cruz at 10, Norton at 4. This fight points to a knockout finish. Both fighters are similarly ranked, however Norton is coming off two T(KO) wins, while Cruz is coming off a TKO loss. Cruz is the taller fighter, at 215, compared to Norton's 188cm, however Norton is the heavier fighter at 277lbs compared to Cruz's mere 235lbs. Cruz is the oldest fighter in this card at 42, 17 years the elder of Ken. Is that going to be a factor? I don't know, but tune in to watch on Saturday night in New York, at an already sold out arena. The biggest boxing card to date, headlined by Cruz vs Norton. Don't miss it!
My prediction: Cruz by KO - 1-2 combination in the 1st round
