Craig "The Lumberjack" Thomson Retires at the age of 36

Fighter profile of Craig Thomson by Lucky Lefty

Craig "The Lumberjack" Thomson is a heavyweight best known for his brutal low kicks and crushing punching power both in the cage and the ring. A knockout artist with world class striking, he began his career in MMA and later made his transition into kickboxing, facing some of the worlds most dangerous strikers in the Evil Empire - Throwdown's former openweight kickboxing division.

He holds wins over top ranked super heavyweight kickboxer "Heartburn" Bernie Hart, Eduardo Nascimento Silva Jr, and the former Dynasty K-1:Tokyo welterweight champion and current top ranked heavyweight Ruben Wiki.

His career in MMA began very well. Thomson was feared most for his knockout power and was able to rock and drop almost every opponent he faced over the course of his seasoned career. As if that wasn't enough, He had a granite chin and could not be knocked out or even rocked for the life of him. But alas, his success in MMA was shortlived and it soon became apparent that "The Lumberjack" was a bad cutter. Titles came and went and eventually as losses accumulated, Thomson realised that his hopes of becoming a mixed martial arts champion were gone. He retired from the MMA scene and spent his time from then on training hard in the gym.

Out of the fight scene Thomson became renowned as a sparring partner and coach, passing on his striking greatness to fighters wherever he went. As his management changed so did the gym he trained at and the fighters he taught. Eventually he came under the management of Lucky Lefty and started to train with the team at Razor Sharp Training Systems in Hilo. Lucky Lefty quickly realised that Thomson was still as good as he had ever been and capitalised on the opportunity at the new openweight kickboxing division at Evil Empire - Throwdown. After a 6 knockout win streak, Thomson fought for the title against Garson DeBramalo, the current superhevyweight champ of Dynasty K-1:Tokyo. While the fight only lasted all of 9 minutes, the champion did not seem to be able to hurt or even daze "The Lumberjack" despite being able to land at will over the 2 rounds. In the end it went the way we all expected it to go which was of course by cut tko doctor stoppage. Thomson was perfectly calm and collected the entire duration with no signs of injury or concussion. The only signs of his defeat was the gash under his left eye and the developping hematoma on the right side of his face: gifts from a very game DeBramalo's chopping right hand and powerful lead jab.

After 9 fights with Evil Empire - Throwdown, Thomson was 7-2 with all his wins coming by way of (T)KO, and both losses by way of doctor cut stoppage. Here, Craig "The Lumberjack" Thomson made his decision to hang up his gloves for good. Despite winning his final bout by way of KO he felt it was for the best to quit while he was ahead.

"The Lumberjack" will be remembered by the kickboxing world with great respect, a true brawler who always went to war in the ring to finish the fight decisively. He is truly undefeated in the eyes of the fans.
