Welcome to Barbarian FC 13 live from the Hayashi Lounge in Rio De Janeiro Brazil. Mango is still out Merchandise partner but as Pedro has already stated we are actively looking for a new merchandise partner so please if you know somebody or you yourself could fill that role please let Pedro know. I’m not going to keep you so let’s get down to the fights.
Preliminary Bout Number 1- Lightweight Fight (155lbs)
Rafael "Brad" Modesto (0-1) {0-1} versus Decon Green (4-2) {3-2}
Modesto will start our night off and he is currently o and one as he started off his Barbarian career with a loss. The eighteen year old Brazilian native is a good wrestler and he will want to use that but only moderately. He should look to try and steel rounds with late takedowns since he is facing a better grappler. Green is four and two in his career and all of his wins came via submission. He will welcome takedowns if he has enough time to work, and he should be looking for takedowns as well. Since this fight is sure to go to the ground I am picking Green to win by submission in the first round.
Preliminary Bout Number 2- Bantamweight Fight (135lbs)
Matheus "The ´´Natal Kid``" Peixoto (4-2) {3-1} versus Thomas "Slick" Snide (1-0) {0-0}
Peixoto is four and two with three of his wins coming right here in Barbarian. He has been piling on submission victories and he will look to get another one. He loves the kimura so look for him to extremely active from the bottom and when he is on top watch for him to try and get side control. Snide is one and o and this will be his BFC debut. He has a very similar game plan to fights as Peixoto with the submissions, but he could be a better grappler and only time will tell if that’s the case. I know this fight will go to the mat and I am going to take experience so I got Peixoto winning in the first round via submission.
Preliminary Bout Number 3- Lightweight Fight (155lbs)
Sponge Bones (2-3) {1-3} versus Nego "Café" Dobom (5-1) {4-1}
Bones has not done well since coming to Barbarian. He won his debut which put him up to two and o but since he has lost his last three fights. He will need to use his wrestling and Jiu Jitsu in this one to try and turn his career around. Dobom is coming off his first loss ever and he will be out for blood. Nego usually looks to point out his opponents but I think he will be much more aggressive in this one. I would think he is going to try and keep this one standing so he can use his kicks and knees to get the advantage in this one. I got Dobom winning this fight but I always question his ability to finish a fight so I got this one going the distance.
Preliminary Bout Number 4- Bantamweight Fight (135lbs)
Howard "Engineer" Holowitz (3-2) {3-2} versus Brahma "Beer Master" Cervejinha (2-2) {2-1}
Holowitz is coming off of a loss which dropped his record to three and two so far his young career. All of his fights have been finished as he has all of his wins by submission and in his two losses he has been submitted once and TKO’ed once. He will bring his wrestling A game as usual as he will be looking for a submission or some ground and pound in this one. The two and two Brahma is looking for a little revenge. He took his second loss to Holowitz and then turned around and got a quick win. Now it’s time to avenge that loss as he gets Holowitz one more time. In their first fight Holowitz submitted Brahma and I think that will happen again. I got Holowitz winning in the second round via submission.
Preliminary Bout Number 5- Lightweight Fight (155lbs)
Steven "El Terrible" Perkins (2-2) {2-1} versus Genki Sudo (3-3) {2-3}
Perkins got off to a terrible start in his career dropping his first two fights. Since then he is two and o and he is looking to continue his rise in the BFC lightweight division. He got his first win by TKO and then his second came against Sudo in a fight that went all three rounds. He will look to finish Sudo off in this one and he should be able to if he keeps the fight standing. Sudo is three and three and most of his losses are his own fault. His loss to Perkins was his only non-error loss but he still will look to avenge it. He will need to get this fight to the ground early and often so he can look for a submission or solidify a decision win of his own. I think Perkins finishes the job he started a while ago and beats Sudo by TKO in the second round.
Main Card Bout Number 1- Middleweight Fight (185lbs)
Nonito Melo (3-0) {3-0} versus Aviy Sherman (3-1) {3-1}
So I might be a little biased and to excited about this fight. Melo’s manager and I are friends and I so happy to see him earn a main card opportunity. He is currently three and o and all of his wins have come by decision which shows us how good he is at point fighting. Melo is a well round fighter and he can grapple or strike so he is dangerous. Sherman is also dangerous though as he has a three and one record in Barbarian. This nineteen year old will be looking to get the fight to the ground where can use his brown belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu to get a submission victory. He has yet to have a fight go the distance but the longer fights go the worse he gets so he needs to end the fight quickly. I am going with Melo because I think he can stretch the fight out in the latter rounds. I got him going over with a decision win.
Main Card Bout Number 2- Light Heavyweight Fight (205lbs)
Sheldon "The Doctor" Cooper (4-3) {4-3} versus Roger Sheck (2-0) {0-0}
Cooper is four and three and he is a true Barbarian veteran. All of his fights have taken place in a Barbarian Fight Club cage and he will look to take down the new comer and look for a submission. This brown belt has gotten a win in all four of his fights via submission and he will look to get a fifth. Sheck is two and o but this will be his first fight under the BFC banner. He is much younger than Cooper but he has already surpassed him in BJJ training as he is currently holding a black belt. Not only does Sheck have the advantage on the ground, but he will also have the advantage standing up as he is a better striker than Cooper as well. This should be an easy fight for Sheck and I have him winning by submission in the first round of this fight.
Main Card Bout Number 3- Welterweight Fight (170lbs)
Rajesh "Raj" Koothrappali (4-2-1) {4-2-1} versus Marcelo Aurelio (6-0) {1-0}
Koothrappali was on a fast track to the Welterweight Title Tournament until he ran into what I will call his nemesis in Christopher Newton. Newton put the first two blemishes of Raj’s career on his record. After that Rajesh went on to beat more top end talent before losing a fight that could have gained him a title shot. He will look to get back on track to another rematch with Newton in this one. Aurelio is six and o but only one of those fights took place in Barbarian Fight Club. This nineteen year old black belt has five wins by submission but in his only fight in BFC he showed us he can ground and pound the best fighters. Obviously this fight is going to the ground and while Raj is the better wrestler Marcelo is a far better grappler and he should win this fight by submission without any problems. I think he gets it done in the first round but it could end up going to the second.
Co Main Event Main Card Bout Number 4- Light Heavyweight Fight (205lbs)
Daeron "Killer" Inglorion (6-2) {5-2} versus Eduardo "Souza " Barros (4-0) {2-0}
In the co main event we have Daeron Inglorion who is six and two. Both of his losses came to top end talent in BFC as he lost to the light heavyweight champ in Aderbal Maia and then he lost to Abraham Kurse. Other than that Daeron has been dominate and he will look to use his Jiu Jitsu to earn his seventh career win. Barros is four and o with two of his wins coming in Barbarian. He is also a submission specialist but he relies more on wrestling than Jiu Jitsu. Wrestlers who look for the submission can dominate a large variety of fighters but they usully struggle against better Jiu Jitsu guys and that is exactly what Daeron is. That is the reason I am picking Daeron to win this fight by submission in the second round.
Main Event Main Card Bout Number 5- Lightweight Title Fight (155lbs)
Pepe "Warner" Lepew (7-0) {6-0} versus "The Game Changer" James Granger (6-3) {2-0}
In our main event of the evening Pepe Lepew will put his Lightweight Title on the line. Lepew has dominated Barbarian’s lightweight division with a very tough clinch attack. Lepew can strike outside of the clinch and he has proved that a few times, but honestly the clinch is his home. Granger is six and three but his BFC record is two and o. Both of his fights in Barbarian have gone the distance but he will not be able to survive five rounds with Lepew. He will need to pull guard every time Lepew locks in a clinch and once on the ground he will need to try for a submission. The only way Granger wins this fight is by submission and he will have to take a beating to get there. I don’t think Granger will be able to survive the beating so I have Lepew winning by TKO in the first round to retain his Lightweight Championship.
Great night of fights lined up for all of you and I am certainly happy to preview them for you. Another title defense from Lepew on the ballet and my friend’s fighter going at it tonight makes me happy to see this event. I can’t wait and I am sure most you can’t either. I will see you the next few days for a preview of our next event.
