THE OPTICIAN speaks to Ricardo Santiago

Fighter profile of Ossilus Winger by Bwang Jong Sr

We have here an interview from within the Bwang Jong camp by Ricardo Santiago, 33 fight veteran of the fight game, who made a name for himself in some of the biggest orgs across the world. He is now working behind the scenes passing on his expertise to the menagerie of talent that Bwang Jong Sr has been assembling from around the globe. These stars of tomorrow train at The Zoo in Las Vegas, from where this interview takes place, with one of the most promising of this new guard.

"Buenos' and welcome everybody, yo soy Ricardo Santiago, also known as El Tamale Caliente, and tonight I am talking to current WCSA lightweight K1 champion Ossilus "The Optician" Chiarmanda!

"Thanks a lot for your time Ossilus. First up - tell us - why: "The Optician"!?

"Well Ricardo, my managment started calling me that after a couple of my early victories, where they thought I'd been picking on the eye-balls and eye-sockets of my opponents with my favourite weapon - the elbows. They said it was like I was performing exploratory eye surgery on them. I figured if they can't see they might not want to fight any more.

"So probably caused them a trip to a real optician then Ossilus.

"Yep! That's the sort of shizzle that can happen in a fight.

"You've won your last 9, are undefeated in K1, and you've held belts at two different orgs by the age of 20. What are your thoughts for the future?

"Well, you're right, I've won every fight in K1. But with my contract in LA now ending I feel I'm at a crossroads. Do I make the move into mixed martial arts or focus solely on my stand-up, and push on for the #1 lightweight and #1 p4p kickboxer spots.

"Before your contract ended you were ranked #2 lightweight kickboxer in the entire world. Were you surprised to find yourself there after such a brief but impressive career? And does that give you concerns about the lack of depth in K1 around the planet?

"Yeah that does concern me. I don't want to spend my future beating the same fighters over and over. So as I see it, I have two options. Go into lockdown here at The Zoo for the next year or two and develop my ground game, or carry on in K1 and fight at one of the bigger orgs, maybe in the Dam, Tokyo, or perhaps back to my original home - Xtreme K1 Combat London. I will have to choose carefully, because an eagle can only carry one goat, as we say in Tajikistan. I just have to choose which goat I want to eat the most.

"Very wise, Ossilus, very wise. Thanks for talking to us, and we hope you make the right choice. We expect big things from you and your gym mates here. I will be back to interview more of the exotic beasts we train here at The Zoo, if popularity demands it, but for now from me El Tamale Caliente and The Optician, buenas noches. "
