NYFN 2: Belson vs De Souza

Title fight: Jarik Belson 8-0 vs Sebasti Perreira De Souza

Tonight, we have one of the most anticipated matchups taking place in NYFN history. It will be the unification of the welterweight and middleweight belts as undefeated ww champ Belson takes on the new mw champ De Souza who has not lost since his inaugural fight. Someone's win streak ends tonight! Belson is a well-rounded, intelligent ground fighter. While his ground skills easily trump his standup game, that hasn't stopped him from knocking out guys while standing up. He also has the skill to pull off a sub or even slow things down to win by decision. But, don't blink, because if you do, you might miss De Souza knocking someone out with the most brutal hammer fists in the game. Dominating would be an understatement to characterize De Souza. All of his fights have ended in the first round, even his loss. He is a world class wrestler and knows how to obliterate the face under him like "Big Country" Roy Nelson at an all-you-can-eat buffet. This will be an olympic worthy ground war that is unlikely to reach the judges. The winner will easily earn the right to be called the best.

Fight to Watch: Tom Rodriguez 7-5 vs Stefan Silva 8-6

In our Fight to Watch, we have two battle-tested warriors who have yet been able to really take off in the rankings. Both are just 2 fights over .500, but both have shown signs of life recently after early struggles in their careers. Both men had short win streaks come to an end in their last bouts. The loser of this one faces a 2-fight losing streak and will be one fight closer to being an inconsistent mediocre .500 fighter. The winner, however, would find himself perhaps just one fight away from a title match. Rodriguez will come in with a huge height advantage. By far the tallest fighter in the class, but as skinny as a toothpick. Neither fighter has much of a stand-up game, but both sport a purple belt. Both fighters will look to take this to the ground and pull off a sub, which could put Rodriguez at a big disadvantage with those super long limbs. Or, if he is on his back, it might just help him pull off a triangle. The odds are high that there will be a finish here, so don't look surprised if it wins sub of the night!

Underdog Match: Mike Dong 6-3 vs Dax Miller 1-1

In our Underdog Match, the much more experienced and older Dong takes on newcomer MT fighter Dax Miller. Miller has yet to fight much in his career and has spent most of his time in the gym. That could pay off with higher skills, but Dong could also use his experience advantage to put the young upstart in his place. Dong is a boxer/bjj fighter who can just as easily punch you in the face as break your arm. While he isnt known for his wrestling skills, he's not afraid to go for a takedown, so while Miller has a huge MT advantage,  Dong appears to be much more versatile. Miller, on the other hand, is going to look to kick, kick and kick some more. He seems like a 1-trick pony. Dong's kick defense should determine this one. Stop the kicks with some face punches or takedowns and he wins. Don't stop them and he'll look like a bruised side of beef very quickly. I can't wait to see how all 3 fights end!
