This fight has been long awaited by supporters of both fighters.  Dunham was the the light weight champion and defeated the last attempt to take his title.

Both fighters went into the fight with 14 wins, both have obtained a brown belt in BJJ, Amir Dunham has natural KO power and Jesus Mendes has a really good MT kick technique.  This fight was set up to be a really entertaining event with Mendes having stated prior to the fight that he had fought Dunham over ten years ago in Egypt, years ago during an amature competition.  Apparently the fighters have remained in contact and are really good freinds, although it looked lie there was no love lost in this fight.

Fight Review:

Dunham set his stall out straight away in the fight and wasted his energy with three failed takedowns.  Mendes took advantage of this and hit in hard with some reatty good MT clinckwork, landing some winding knees to Dunham's chest.  Mendes continued to dominate in the clinch, striking mean knees to Dunham's head and body.  Mendes then took the fight to the ground and continued to dominate with Dunham showing immense defensive grappling skills to defeat numerous submission attempts from Mendes.

In round two the fighters clinched from the start, but this time Mendes took it straight to the floor.  Both fighters showed some good submission skills, but in the end Mendes had too much for Dunham.  The fight ended with an armbar from Mendes, who was delighted to become the new light weight champion, although did take time after the fight to console Dunham.

Post Fight Interview:

Interviewer - So then guys, how can you remain freinds after all of that beating each other? I mean at one point I thought that you could have actually killed each other!

Dunham - Na, that was nothing, wait 'till he finds out I am banging his wife!

Mendes - Ha ha, shut up lil' man, you're just sore coz I wupped ya ass.

Dunham - Yer true, I wouldn't dare touch your wife, she's scary as f***.

Mendes - Tell me about it!

Interviewer - And Mendes, I thought you would have kept it stood up in the clinch in the second round, following the success in the first from your knees, what made you take it to the ground?

Mendes - Well, simply that the last few times we have sparred together, Amir has managed to sub me, so even though I seemed to be getting the better in the clinch in the first round, I wanted to get him tappin'.  My manager spoke to me after though and he was really unhappy about that, he said I should have just knocked him out in the MT clinch and not gone to ground.  The fans prefer a knockout but I think my manager was twice as annoyed as he bet a load of money on me knocking Amir out in the second [round].

Dunham - Like you could! I was playin' with ya!

Mendes - Whatever!

Interviewer - Well guys, I am gonna let you get off. Fantastic sportsmanship Dunam, and Jesus, Mendes that was a great win, congratulations.
