Preview & Interview of Brett Simmons vs Steve Cox

Fighter profile of Brett Simmons by Mystic Mac

Preview: Hostilty 30 Preview: Brett "The Little Pimp" Simmons vs Steve "Bam Bam" Cox !! Bantamweight TITLE ON THE LINE!

Two of the best rising stars in mma tycoon ,Brett Simmons and Steve Cox will be in a epic battle for the Bantamweight championship on Oct. the 18th at Hostility 30. Brett Simmons comes to the fight with a record of 7-2 and a five fight win streak. Simmons is a monster on the ground and has seemed to be unstoppable lately...he is a terrific wrestler and a brown belt in bjj. His five fight win streak is something to be reckoned with because all 5 wins were first round submissions and lets not forget his has elite wrestling skills with ground and pound. Pretty simple, Simmons takes you to the ground, beat you down with strikes, and finishes you with a submission...He almost makes it look easy. He will most likely try to get Cox to the ground and finish him there.. Simmons weakness is his standup, he only has good enough boxing and muay thai to just help set up his takedowns and defend himself from getting hit..nothing to spectacular on the feet.

Steve Cox is closley similar in stats but he does have slightly better standup.

Cox loves to control his oppenents and fight for the decision which he does well from looking at his record, that's where he has gotten almost all his wins and usually in a one sided affair....He is undefeated 8-0-1 coming into the fight.. His westling is also slightly better than Simmons.. Once he gets you to the ground, you will not be getting back up.. That's just fine with Simmons though as that is he prefers it. Nevertheless, Cox is undefeated, this guy knows how to grind out a victory.. The only thing is that Cox is a purple belt and Simmoms is a brown belt and seems to have the better ground game so going to the ground might not be a good idea for Steve Cox.

Will Cox force Simmons to stand where he has an advantage or will Simmons stop the undefeated Cox on the ground? Only time will tell Hostility 30 its going down between these two warriors!!

Interview:
We caught up with the 135 pound title contender Brett Simmons before he entered the gym.. As always he had a focused face on, and gladly accepted to have a Q&A with us before he went back to train for his big title fight against Steve Cox at Hostility 30.

1. What does it mean to you to be a fighter?

To be a fighter you have to have a tremendous amount of discipline. When you are most tired you have to be able to push yourself to keep going — when you wake up on a Sunday morning and go out running, when you can be resting. A fighter has to be strong physically, but more importantly, they have to be strong mentally. This is where the good athletes and the elite athletes are separated.

2. What is it that separates you from Steve Cox?

What separates me is the fact that I am a finisher and a complete ground fighter. I am very good at pounding faces into the mat, submissions, transitions and defensive grappling. Not too many fighters at my level possess all of these qualities equally. This makes it very hard for my opponents to get prepared for my style.

3. In training, have you been doing anything differently this time around?

Yes, I have altered my diet in a way where it will help me keep more of my strength for this fight. Training is the same, just more intense because of the diet change. I now have more energy and power to train harder this time around.

4. When it comes to training, how have you learned and grown from previous bouts?

Win or lose, I always try to learn from my previous fights. The losing is obvious since the mistakes are clearer. Learning something from a win is much harder. With that being said, my trainers and I sit down regardless, and break down what I did right and what I have done wrong. Based on those decisions we alter the future training sessions for upcoming fights.
