Hello readers.
Today i will meet with one of the newest managers in MMA. Her name is Crissy
Teranova and she recently joined the exciting world of MMA fighting.
The meeting is setup at the Luxor where im told she spends alot of time playing
poker or hanging out in the Luxor nightclub LAX.
In the mail she sent me i was
asked to come to LAX and she would wait there for me.
Marvin - Hi Crissy, its very nice to meet you.
Crissy - Hey! Its nice to meet you to Marvin. I have been looking forward to
this, my very first interview as a real MMA Manager
Marvin - Luxor the only pyramid in Vegas. Do you like it here?
Crissy - Oh yea i do! I have always liked the pyramids and old Egypth so it
feels just right to spend time here.
And i also like the buffé downstairs of
coarse!!
Marvin - Shall we start, i have a few questions?
Crissy - Go for it!!
Marvin - Who are you and how did you become a MMA manager?
Crissy - Well Marvin, that was not the plan when i came here!
I actually moved to Vegas to be a stripper and i spent a year here working
differet places.
I did have a blast but maybe there where just a little to much
parties going on, if you know what i mean.
One day i met theis guy, a MMA fighter, we became friends and...
Marvin - Just friends or Friends friends?
Crissy - Ha ha, Marvin my man, just friends. Anyway as i said, he was a MMA
fighter and he had no manager and zero sence of business at all.
As it happens i had some experince in business so i started helping him out and
it just grew from there.
Marvin - That brings me to my next question then. Do you have any martial arts
or business backgroud yourself?
Crissy - Back in Stockholm, where im from, i did train Krav Maga before i moved
here. But nothing apart from that.
My business backround is my education at the
stockholm school of business and dealing with drunk guys in stripp clubbs, ha
ha!!
Marvin - In your opinion. What does it take to be a good MMA manager?
Crissy - Well, thats a good question as im still learning.
I think you need to make sure that you the people you have around you are good people.
I mean, you dont want to get stuck in a 5 match contract with someone that is not doing his
job. Dont jump on the very first contract you get offered,
make sure they will
set you up in good fights and that they want the best for you and your fighter
also.!
I also think its important to have good comunication with your fighters and make
sure they train the areas that they need to sharpen.
Its alot of work, but damn rewarding when things go well!
Marvin - Do you have any other plans then manage fighters?
Crissy - Yea, there are plans but nothing thats going to happen right now. For
now im happy to learn the stuff i need to know at this point, but later... Yea i
have plans.
Marvin - Can we hear what plans?
Crissy - Yea sure. The plan is to start a gym some day but as i said im not in a
hurry at all.
Marvin - One thing that realy stands out is that not only are you Swedish but
all of your fighters are from Sweden. Whats up with this?.
Crissy - Sweden has had some, a few, good MMA guys but i really feel that Sweden
can become a power house in MMA so i decided to go for all Swedes.
I hope that if me and my fighters have some success MMA can really take of in Sweden and
more people with start training MMA. Would be awsome!.
Marvin - About MMA and fighters. What do you think is the most important aspect
of MMA today?.
Crissy - I would say defence. If you have a bad defence its all over before its
even started.
I mean you need to have an offence also but in my mind defence is
always number one. Others may disagree..
I also think you need to either have some grappling skill and know the ground
game or have an amazing takedown defence.
If you dont have a takedown defence
and your lack ground game you are in a disadvantage at once.
many of todays fighters will study you and if they see that you lack grounf game and takedown
defence they will just take the fight to a ground and beat you..
Marvin - Are you happy withthe fighers you have?.
Crissy - Mostly yea! I have 5 young guys that need some wotk before i send them
into a fight, but my 5 older guys are ready to go..
Marvin - Wich one of your fighters do you have what it takes to make it big in
MMA?.
Crissy - All of them! They are diffrent kind of fighters but i belive they are
all good and have potential to be great..
Marvin - But you need to pick one, wich one?.
Crissy - Then i pick two! I think Jimmy Jansson will win alot of matches at once
and just go for the stars. He is dedicated and works really hard. I also want to mention Arland Eliasson as i think he will also be a force in a few years.
He is to young now but he will become a monster in the future..
With that said i do want to add that i strongly belive in al my fighters and i
think they will all make it..
Marvin - Are you looking to add any fighters or drop anyone you have?.
Crissy - Drop, No not all all! But dont get me wrong, if they fail at winning
and prove to be not of the right stuff im not scared to send them home and get
new blood in..
Add, yea maybe actually. I would like a really good guy that want to slow down a
bit. Someone that my other guys could learn a thing or two from. That would be
amazing..
Marvin - Its been very nice to meet you Crissy. Is there anything you want to
add before we are done?.
Crissy - I think we got it all. Keep in contact and maybe you could talk with
some of my fighters also. Nice to meet you Marvin!.
As it got up and left i found myself thinking Crissy will make it big in MMA.
Maybe not her fighters will but im sure she will, she has the spark,
personality, looks and energy needed to be a star in her own no metter how her
fighters do in the ring..
