Q: Dear martial arts fans today I will pay a visit to Mick Shaw. Mick made his debut a while back, he completely dominated the fight and finished it in a minute and a half in the first round. But that's not even the most interesting thing about him. After the fight he released a story about why he wanted to be a fighter and that story was good enough to get published in the highly respected Tycoon Times. Mick, why did you decide to release this story?
Mick: Simply put, I thought it was a story worth telling so I told it. I'm basically training all day long but I do occasionally take a break and during one of those breaks I thought it would be nice to write it all down so everyone who's interested can read it.
Q: You were inspired to become a fighter after seeing that boxing match, why didn't you become a boxer instead of a mixed martial artist?
Mick: I actually did go to a boxing gym to train at first, but I mostly worked on my condition there. It's really important to at least have a good base before you start training techniques, so that's what I did. While I was training there I made some new friends and started learning more about fighting in general. When I discovered MMA, I was hooked and I wanted to do it too.
Q: After reading the story I couldn't help but wonder, what happened to the kid? Is he still a boxer?
Mick: He actually quit boxing professionally about a year after that fight. He's actually really smart, he's a lawyer now. He said that boxing gave him the confidence he needed to push through his studies and become a lawyer.
Q: So you've kept tabs on him?
Mick: I actually met him a while back when I went back home, he still occasionally comes to the boxing gym where I started my training.
Q: What are your goals for 2015?
Mick: I'd love to get signed to a good org where I can have fair fights while I continue my training.
Good luck and I look forward to seeing more of you in the future.
