Cantrell Willis - WARRIOR

Editorial by

Its a very difficult to get a hold of a fighter after a bad loss, even harder after his bells been rung. Specially if he is an elite fighter with a power house gym and big time manager behind him. This is Cantrell Willis whose fight two weeks ago against Night Man left him on the mat, after his face connects with Man’s right fist. “Im a bit uncomfortable about asking him some questions, but lets just see where this goes”.

The speed of this kids hands are phenomenal, He is working the mits with such accuracy and lighting flash. His trainer and new strategist K-Rad here from Los Angeles is working on his holes, that were clearly obvious after the last fight. Cantrell glances my way and sees me. He gives a smile and signals just to give him a few minutes to finish his work out.

This intense work out would kill any other fighter but Cantrell handles it like the warrior he is. Cantrell walks over and sits right in front of me. In his right hand an energy drink, in the other some sort of nutrition bar. He is very calm and seems fully recovered after the mishap at the Man fight.

First of I just wanted to say that i have not seen a harder worker during training then what i saw in you earlier. Make sure to save some of that for your up coming fight. Cantrell smiles at me, offers me a piece of his bar, and begins to speak.

Cantrell: Yeah we have a new member K-Rad. He just joined WASPS NEST family, he’s an awesome trainer and a great, great tactician. He’s here for our fight at Ring Wars 20, and after my lack luster performance, Jason thought he would be an awesome add to the team. Im so glad to have him here, cause he has opened my, our eyes to other facets of the game that we totally never even thought of.

Wow. It seems that you really look up to this guy and are a believer in K-Rad’s methods.
Cantrell: Well yeah. I mean he wouldn’t be here training and helping us if we didn’t believe in him. He opens the game wide open with different ways to improve each fighter and ways to win over ones opponent. So yes we, I believe in the guy.

Ok. Good addition to the Wasps Nest then. “ Cantrell seemed a bit annoyed at me, abut that question”. Great. Im happy for the whole crew.

Lets get back to the night you got knocked out. You came into the fight ready and prepared. Any thoughts?

Cantrell: Alright. I came into the fight knowing i was going to take home that win. We had all training and prepared well for my opponent. We had scouted him and made sure i was strong enough to get the guy into our game plan and handle the fight to the end. Our way.  His stand up was ok, I kept pressing him and he didn’t want anything to do with my ground game.

Cantrell: The first few seconds in the fight it was anyones game. I felt i was pouring on the pressure, If you look at the replay you’ll see I was the aggressor.  Thats, what i think hit me.

Cantrell: It wasn’t his right hand, But my narrow mindedness of just wanting that takedown so bad that i made risks, and not caring about his striking. I knew i could take his punches or slip them. The round was early and i was feeling him out. People think Im gonna gas out but my cardio is pretty good, so i felt confident in pressing the pace. He threw a right and it landed lucky for him. He also was a lot stronger then I expected. He is actually at least 50 lbs. heavier then me, but i thought i could take him.

Cantrell: Actually I know i can take him. It was just a sunday freedee. And i had not really followed the plan. I was too predictable, But again for being that early I don’t think it mattered. I just walked away that night learning more actually. A lot more. Specially know we have K-Rad in our corner Im even more dangerous. Thats it. Thats all I really have to say about that night and the KO.

Alright. Thanks for your time Cantrell. Appreciate your time and really look forward to your success.

I shake his hand and that was that. The fighter focuses back into his matter in hand and joins his trainer again and they start pounding the bag. That there folks is a true warrior. Never gets down on anything. Picks himself up every time he stumbles. And learns and comes back even stronger. What a true inspiration.
