Is being the best really about winning?

Editorial by Prince Shifty

Alot of people always refer to the best fighter as the fighter with the most wins. Yet, upcoming talents who have maybe only fought 4 or 5 times may be better as they are still growing there talents.

Think of it like this, if you stripped champions of all their experience and stripped away age and fight record, would they really be the best.

In the last few years, MMA has grown vastly in popularity and also in the quality of fighters that are being produced. Most of these fighters are still open to learning new skills, whereas the old timers have a set fighting routine which can be brokendown and defeated.

So is being the best really about winning? I think not. It requires the ability to adapt to any situation, to be able to respect every martial art, not just the mainstream Muay Thai and BJJ, and being able to grow as a fighter and take a loss as a learning experience. Those fighters are the best.
