Clark Still Eyes KT Greatness

Fighter profile of Clark Still by Adam Leigh

On June 13 the Jamaican born ‘One Love’ will face Brian Pillman at GKNY 9. For some it will be just another fight, another opportunity to prove themselves worthy with GAMMA Kids and potentially push for the illustrious heights of the GAMMA pyramid. For one in particular it will be the last time he steps inside a MMA cage, at least, for the immediate future.

I caught word Clark Still was thinking of departing GKNY for newer opportunities, and when I spoke with the 19 year old undefeated #3 ranked GKNY featherweight contender after a training session at Thirteenth Legion MMA, he assured me it wasn’t for a better MMA setup outside of GAMMA.

"Greener pastures...no, no I dont think the grass is greener on the other side, but new opportunities are there for sure.” Clark Still is moving on for one reason, and it’s to find out if he can rise to that illusive greatness all fighters are striving for. The difference here, he’s looking outside the cage.

“The reasons quite simple I think I can be a KT champion. Which is more appealing to me then MMA, I like the stand-up game more, and I dont have a lot of talent for BJJ, so me and my manager worked out this strategy we're going to move forward with, for good or for bad.”

One Love believes himself to be of a certain calibre. He believes he’s destined for greatness, and from what GKNY fans have seen so far, who would disagree. He’s an excellent boxer with genuine knock out power, as can be confirmed by two of his previous opponents who didn’t make it past the first minute, let alone the first round.

Still currently sits 3rd in the featherweight division and with a win in just over 3 weeks, his fight after could be for the illustrious featherweight title against #1 GKNY P4P fighter Tony Ramos. The natural lightweight has everything to gain by staying here with GAMMA kids, yet his calling is in another sport. KT and MMA aren’t exactly worlds apart, but they do have differences.

Clark Still may be better suited to Kickboxing, but as far as his MMA career goes he’s currently on a 3 fight win streak and could hang up the gloves undefeated in the sport before he ventures into the ring to try his luck against opponents more his style. Either way, win or lose, he’ll be moving forward - for good or for bad.

GKNY 9 takes place at Wild Bob’s Bar in New York on Saturday June 13. Be sure to get along and support GAMMA Kids and all up-and-coming fighters, MMA or otherwise.
