Interviewed by Jim What.
What: I'm here with 18 year old Mexican prospect Juan Gomez ahead of his Highland Challengers 2 clash with Andy Yearns. Juan, how are you feeling coming into your professional debut?
Gomez: I'm feeling really good about this you know. I know there are going to be many tough competitors ahead and im looking forward to giving everyone a chance to see what I bring to the game, as well I'm looking to see what everyone else can bring.
What: Without revealing too much, what kind of strategy will you be looking to employ in this fight? Do you spend a lot of time working against your opponent's abilities or do you adapt too the fight naturally?
Gomez: I like to train my weakness. I believe everything is equally important but every fight and every fighter is different and were I see a weakness I vow to make my strength come fight time.
What: Your opponent on Sunday night is also 18 years old. Do you feel that will be the perfect platform for your to become comfortable with your in-ring career, and how will you feel about the prospect of taking on older opponents as you move up the ladder?
Gomez: Right now I think my age range is better suited. The island just opened up and there's fighters who are fresh and who have some experience I believe in due time ill be experience enough to take on more experienced and aged opponents.
What: It will be hard for you to get to the top level and challenge for a belt if you only compete against guys of a similar age. Do you think that your attitude will change after a few more fights?
Gomez: I said as time went on I'd take on more older opponents
What: Apologies, was just trying to clarify. Do you think you think you'll be seeking a stoppage on Sunday night, or will you just be focused on gaining a victory.
Gomez: I think this Sunday will end 1st round KO.
What: Thank you for sitting down with us today Juan and good luck on your bout on Sunday, May 24th.
Gomez: Anytime thank you very much.
