Spencer Kilco reporting for £4£: The best for MMA News, Views and Reviews

Highland presents 5 championship fights this Saturday on The Island. If you’ve never watched Highland before or just a cause fan you need to tune in this weekend. An event that is so important to the future of the org determining the fate of five divisions!

185 lbs Main Event: Chong Li vs Alexandre Moraes

The middle weight title will be defended at Highland Challenge 16. If all the title fights of the night weren’t enough the winner of this main event could be the next contender at 185. Li (2-1) is coming off his first loss. Up until then the Korean was a hot prospect for Highland with both wins by submission backed up with strong Boxing. To get back on the win he needs to beat Moraes (2-1). The Brazilian is a decent all round fighter coming off his first win at Highland Challengers. His boxing doesn’t quite match up with Li’s but he should have the upper hand on the ground. This could end up being a short fight with both young fighters putting a 110% into getting a finish to impress the fans and Highland officials.

205 lbs Title Fight Co-Main Event: Charles Crawley vs Antero Teeri

Crawley (4-0) is looking for his second LightHeavy Weight championship defence. The American seems to be unrivalled in the clinch and has used this to score 2 KOs in his young career. This first major threat comes in form of Teeri (4-0) who is also a muay thai fighter. Neither man box but both have improved their wrestling since turning pro. On paper these two fighters are identical which makes this fight one of the most exciting fights of the night. Both are going to want to step in close, so for the fans this is going to be an exciting war!

145 lbs Title Fight: Yuta Wakabayashi vs Hugh Janus

Submission fighter Wakabayashi (6-0) won the title on this Highland debut by submission. With no ground game Wakabayashi relies on his ability to get his opponent to mat as quickly as possible and control them. Janus (3-1) is an all-round fighter who favours the ground. The born and raised Highland fighter has developing stand up skills. Wakabayashi would be in trouble if this fight doesn’t fit the mat immediately. Expect to see this fight on the ground and although Janus is a major underdog I predict that maybe we will see an upset and new champion.

135 lbs Title Fight: Ove Sundberg vs Vincent King

Swedish champion Sundberg (6-0) is a KO king finding the fight finishing punch out of now where. The stand-up game is what has lead the 18 year old to an impressive record. However his first defence will be against fellow boxer Vincent King (4-0). King looked dominate in a decision win in his Highland debut. This fight will defiantly stay standing unless Sundberg looks to surprise the unsuspecting King. This will be down to the different stand up styles. King is a pure boxer so will counter and move to the outside, while Sundberg has a lot of muay thai training, so will step in close possibly clinching. It’ll be interesting to see which style prevails.

265 lbs: Archie MacDuff vs Carlos Machado

Two young fighters eager to impressive will be desperate for this win. MacDuff (2-1) seems to live and breathe Highland fighting out of the Highland Brawl Academy. An accomplished and strong boxer with developing wrestling skills goes up against fellow rookie Machado (2-0). The Brazilian fighter will look to overpower Macduff in his second Highland fight. A true mismatch of styles but if Machado can squash the space, maybe get up against the cage or on the mat he can disarm MacDuff’s powerful boxing.

Lower Card:

155 lbs: Steve Yzerman (2-1) [American/All Rounder] vs Adisa Afolabi (2-1) [Nigerian/Wrestler]

265 lbs: Woody Forrest (3-2) [American/Boxer] vs Sampo Metso (3-1) [Finnish/Wrestler]

265 lbs Title Fight: Dave Ysengrin vs Rigan Machado

Ysengrin (5-0) is looking for his second defence. With great boxing and wrestling ability he should find it hard to get through Machado (2-0) who possesses mediocre wrestling.

170 lbs Title Fight: Alexander Stubb vs Nicklas Lidstrom

Finnish champion Stubb (4-0) will use his Boxing to find his first defence against Lidstrom (3-1). The American has improved boxing and wrestling which could give him the edge.

145 lbs: Patrick Seery (2-1) [Irish/Boxer] vs Juan Gomez (2-1) [Mexican/Wrestler]
