OverComing 21: Speed vs. Brandao! PREVIEW

Event Preview: O21: Speed vs Brandao
Overcoming (ID 155k+)
2012-06-03, Amsterdam, The Beer Garden
Author:K Rad

And a very good afternoon to you all from Amsterdam's Beer Garden!  I am K-Rad and it is my pleasure to be here bringing you the preview for OC21: Speed vs. Brandao.  I am currently awaiting the 20 fighters to arrive and the 5000+ supporters who will cheer them on for this event which climaxes in a super heavyweight title fight.  There's been plenty of words flying back stage with Speed saying he is focusing on the this fight before he commits to worrying about anything else, Brandao saying this is a good idea because Brandao is bringing his heavy hands to the party and Aquino letting everyone know he is prepared to put them all to sleep.  Exciting times!  There's plenty to look forward to on this card but if you're in a rush, let's say you're going out to dinner with your boyfriend, then hit up the official twitter @JakubWest.

Do "Ré" Me vs. Samsung Wave
Middleweight

The first of 4 middleweight bouts in a row which make up the overcard is "Re" Me vs. Wave.  Both men lost their most recent fights, in Me's case it was a challenge for the title, but both have plenty of morale to bring them into this battle.  This is a fight in which Wave is hoping his huge boxing can claim an early KO but Me, despite not being quite the Western specialist his opponent is also has a little Thai and 7cm height on his side which will be a real wild card.  On top of this, Me has the wrestling and jitsu which may well see him look to the floor.  A well matched fight which should anticipate plenty of fireworks but I think Me should be looking at his opponent's weaknesses and take this one down to quite possibly notch up his first ever submission victory.

Cosmo "Good Boy" Alexandre vs. "Peaty" Laph Roaig
Middleweight

We keep it going with a solid match up of ground meets standing as "Good Boy" Alexandre looks to take on "Peaty" Roaig.  "Good Boy" is currently undefeated and Roaig came back strong from his only loss so far with a win in his last bout but I still have concerns for his welfare coming into this bout.  Despite "Peaty" being slightly bigger and having fantastic standup, especially muay Thai, his weakness was exposed in the 27 seconds it took Intosh to take him down and submit him.  With Alexandre boasting wonderful wrestling and a purple belt I feel that this fight is likely to go much the same way and I expect "Good Boy" to go 3 wins in a row via submission.

"The Reem" Alistair Ubereem vs. "The End Of All" Aapo Kalypsi
Middleweight

I think I have a new favourite fighter!  "The Reem" Ubereem has come over from AORG and brought his 1 piece body suit featuring the sweet peaches that are Gina Carano's arse in full length.  If "The End Of All" Kalypsi is able to concentrate I will be very surprised.  With that said, "The Reem" may also be put off by having to fight against a man who has an erection.  Ubereem is a brilliant striker and although "The End Of All" has a decently rounded standup game he is significantly outmatched by "The Reem".  Kalypsi will be hoping he can get this fight to the floor but with both men having equal wrestling he will need to get lucky to get this fight down early and avoid his head being kicked clean off his shoulders by the 12cm taller Ubereem.  I am a big fan of kickboxers and a bigger fan of kickboxers called Gina Carano so Ubereem gets this win via default as far as I am concerned.  Let's go with a knock out.

Mac Intosh vs. "Torch" Lester Marley
Middleweight. Co-Main Event!

Interestingly, two fighters with mixed records end the middleweight run and feature in tonight's co-main event.  Intosh, the man who submitted Roaig so neatly is taking on "Torch" Marley in what is looking to be a fantastic battle all around.  Both men have the skills to make the sparks fly standing and are equally ranked grapplers which should allow some interesting ground work should this fight hit the canvas.  Intosh is a little heavier, Marley a little taller, both men are coming off of losses.  There's plenty to be proved by both fighters and I am having trouble separating the two but I'll stick with my kickboxing preference and give the nod to Intosh to claim a decision win.

"The Sleeper" Tyson Speed vs. Marcus "Animal" Brandao
Super Heavyweight. Main Event!

The main event is a real scorcher as "The Sleeper" Speed, undefeated after 6 fights, looks to defend his title for the 3rd time.  The challenger, also undefeated after 6 appearances, is making his first appearance with OC and has shown some real KO ability.  With both men having all their wins via KO this is surely a fight that is looking to be cleaning up an OTN award or two.  Over all, due to having more training behind him, Speed is the slightly better fighter across the board but Brandao has the weight on his side to really put some force behind his striking.  There's really very little between the men and I am very tempted to call this fight out as a draw but I am going to go with Speed's experience under high pressure and I'll tip him to retain his title and claim the KO victory.

There you have it!  All of the good stuff OC has to offer for this week and then some.  I am K-Rad and make sure you join me cage side as we watch these giants of European MMA unleash their fury!
