Legacy! 7

The Expo

For fans that love knockouts, this next event will surely be pleasing and many of these matches will be nail biters. Congratulations to the new 205 lbs champion Patrick Brody! In an amazing display of athleticism Brody controlled the pace of the fight completely and hampered everything that Ravi Shankoli threw his way, taking every single round on the judges scorecards. Brody is surely deserving on the title and will defend it with his life. There are a few contenders making a rise through the ranks and Brody will have his work cut out for him in the weeks to follow. This Saturday’s main event will feature the 120th ranked 155lb fighter Charles Bronson as he defends his position against the 121st ranked Vincent Oketch. Undefeated in Legacy! thus far, George Palmer will look to add another win to his streak of two against the newly arrived Terry Akki in a match that will surely be over quickly but, in whose favor? Many thanks to any fighters that took fights on short notice. If you’re managing a Legacy! fighter and you have some time to burn today, head on over to the smack talk thread and spice it up a bit. Enough rambling, Let’s get on with the action!

Main event 155 lbs. division - Charles Bronson vs. Vincent Oketch

The immensely popular Charles Bronson will continue to fight for redemption after receiving the first loss of his career at the hands of Lorne Malvo in Legacy! 3. Charles had seen the fight against Malvo as a highlight of his career and considered hanging up the old gloves after losing. A heart to heart talk with his manager Gwad convinced Bronson to stick around and come back twice as strong. Since then Bronson has proven that he’s still the man to be feared after dominating Reyki Rhino in Legacy! 6. Charles knew that he had the better stamina going into the fight and took advantage of Reyki’s smoking habit by setting a fast pace that was maintained for the majority of the fight. After the opening bell these fighters felt each other and it quickly became obvious that both men were looking for a knockout. Few punches were landed in the first and it was too close to call but, the general consensus is that Bronson inched ahead. The second round was a different story, Bronson had gotten down Reyki’s timing and dominated the next two rounds. Sensing trouble mid way into the 3rd round Reyki threw caution to wind and started going all out. A very confident Bronson adopted a defensive stance and looked to capitalize on his opponent’s aggression with damaging counter striking. For the first time in his career Bronson opted to throw a head kick and Reyki was shocked, barely managing to pull a hand up in a half hearted attempt to block the strike. The damage was done though. Bronson was able to slip in a few more punches and send Reyki plummeting to the canvas, adding a 6th TKO to his 7-1 record. The win gave Bronson a huge burst of confidence and he’s decided to stick around for a while and build some experience that will be much needed if he has to face his rival Lorne Malvo again. Showing true guts, Bronson has taken this fight on short notice and Vincent Oketch will have the benefit of a couple extra days in the gym. Oketch will make his Legacy! debut tonight after parting ways with the now closed traveling circus known as NEX where he posted a 13-3 record that saw him capture the 155 lbs belt and defend it 6 times consecutively. When the Oketch family lost their first born son of heart failure brought on by elephantiasis of the bilateral lower limbs and buttocks, the family decided to have another child. It wasn’t long before their second child was born and they named him Vincent after his older brother. Growing up in Peta, Uganda was hard on a young Oketch and he was consistently berated by older boys who had believed his deformed brother was a monster. This hardened Vincent and he was forced to fight for his families sake on numerous occasions. The instant he turned 18, Vincent moved to Los Angeles with the hopes of a brighter future and he began his career in MMA win a QFC win. He’ll be hoping to duplicate the previous success he saw in NEX with a submission win over the accomplished kickboxer Charles Bronson. Vincent has proven that he’s dangerous in all aspects of a fight and has managed to pull out 5 (T)KOs, 6 submissions and two decision wins. With the exception of 1 submission, all of Oketch’s losses have come from decisions and In addition to that, he’s never been cut and has only been rocked once. Charles on the other hand is a bit more one dimensional, It’s no secret that he likes to punch and kick his way to victory as his 7 (T)KOs and 2 decision wins show. He has been cut a few times before and recently received his first and only KO. This won’t faze Bronson, he’ll stick to his guns and use his 4cm height advantage and sensational boxing to paw away with accurate jabs and low kicks while he gets a feel for Oketch. Bronson could do some good damage if this fight makes it into a clinch but, he’ll likely avoid any opportunity for Oketch to drag him to the ground. Oketch on the other hand will likely test his boxing against Bronson and if all else fails he has options on the ground but, will struggle to use them against Bronson’s impressive defensive grappling.

Co-main 170lbs division - Terry Akki vs. George Palmer

This next fight will be a race as Terry Akki rushes to knock out George Palmer before he can score a takedown. Born into the Teriyaki Clan of Hiroshima, Japan Terry Akki was destined to be a warrior. As is customary in his family, Terry began engaging in combat training at an early age and took a liking to boxing. His education in the tactics of the Pacific war sparked an interest in military aviation and Terry began playing simulations that allowed him to relive the war in the cockpit of a Mitsubishi Zero. The simulations weren’t enough for Terry Yaki though and just shy of his 18th birthday he decided to go to an airshow and see a Zero fly in person. Akki wanted the real deal though and seized an opportunity to jump the fences and steal a plane that was unattended and idling. Terry had no problems taking off and discovered that his plane contained external fuel tanks. Worried that his father would force him to commit Seppuku when he was caught, Terry aimed his plane towards the Philippines and sought asylum. After interrogation revealed that Terry wasn’t the first wave of a second invasion he became known as the flying jap and the U.S. granted him asylum in Las Vegas. Short on cash Akki, knew that he would have to put his combat training on sale if he were to gain glory in this distant land. Eager to test himself in combat, Akki signed a fight contract with GFC and won his first two matches in under 1 minute by TKO and KO respectively beginning a career that encompassed 8 (T)KO wins and 5 (T)KO losses. It’s become apparent that Akki has struggled with his chin amidst a schedule that saw him face off against numerous strikers. For the first time in a while his chin will get a much needed rest as he faces off against the submission specialist George Palmer, whose chin won’t be so lucky. Palmer has always been extremely aggressive on the takedown and diving in has caused him to receive 5 (T)KOs throughout his 15-8 career. Those aggressive tactics have paid off though and awarded him 11 submission victories. George and his brother Santiago sibling rivalry often got heated when they were young. The two would wrestle until their parents pulled them apart. As the boys got older, their parents weren’t able to separate them as easily and failing all else they decided to enroll their sons in high school wrestling. This provided an excellent diversion for the angsty youths and both showed promise at the sport. When they came of age they began sparring together and moved to Las Vegas to begin their careers. After promising that they wouldn’t fight each other, the two signed with different organizations and shared an apartment. Things were great for a while and Santiago consoled George after his 5 win streak was snapped in his first and only title shot. This quickly changed when Santiago captured a belt and George became jealous. Sick of living in his younger brother’s shadow, George decided it was time for a move and made his way to Montreal while Santiago moved to New York. Since signing with Legacy! George has made his presence known by submitting his first two opponents and he’ll be looking to keep that same spirit alive this Saturday. George will come into this match 7 years the elder at 30 years old with 22 fights under his belt compared to Akki’s 13 fights. Both of these men are finishers and typically end their matches in the first round. Akki however tends to finish nearly twice averaging 3 minutes and 18 seconds compared to George who averages 7 minutes and 8 seconds. Neither fighters will waste any time at the start of this race, Akki knows he needs to stuff takedown attempts and land as many punishing blows as he can. The clinch could be his friend in this fight. George will have to advance under heavy fire and work a takedown and quick submission before Akki transitions back to standing, a deed he has never failed to complete successfully.

170 lbs division - Kelvin Parker vs. Dong Uk

The third event on the main card could feature a slight role reversal as Kelvin Parker returns to Legacy to fight another South Korean. Kelvin Parker had booming success in his Legacy debut against the lovable “Smiley Chef” Sungwon Jung. At the very start of the match Sungwon Jung underestimated Kelvin’s MT and engaged in a clinch, This fit into Kelvin’s game plan perfectly and he was able to land 10 out of 11 headshots and 10 out of 19 body shots. Jung quickly realized his mistake but, it was already too late. The damage had been done and Kelvin was feeling great about the clinch. He re-engaged the clinch and pulled Jung to the ground. After a quick reversal Parker was on top and Jung was helpless under a barrage of strikes. It wasn’t long before the demoralized Jung submitted to avoid any more damage. managed Kelvin Parker managed to earn a brown belt at a young age but, he has always prefered to strike his opponents instead. Now 23 years old, that same belt has since turned black and has served only to hold up Kelvin pants and deter wary foes from takedowns. His reluctance to grapple in the past has many fans speculating that Kelvin’s belt was earned by taking an online BJJ course. Nevertheless he will go into this fight with superior BJJ. The 25 year old South Korean Dong Uk on the other hand, is a master Hapkido practitioner who enjoys tossing his opponents or making them submit. In spite of this, Dong is somewhat well rounded and has displayed that his country's open handed stances can be very effective in counter striking. Dong Uk will enter this fight with much better boxing but, If he is to bring that to the table he must stand toe to toe with Parker who has shown that he has the power to get to most chins. Although evenly matched in MT at a glance, Parker has shown domination of the clinch in his previous bouts and it’s very likely that that clinch will be in effect at this event. Dong will enter this fight with a significant experience advantage both in age and in fight experience and has won more fights than Kelvin has fought throughout his career. Kelvin has had the much tougher schedule though and his opponents posted a pre fight combine record of 61-29 and it should be noted that 5 of these fights were against much older opponents. Dong’s opponents gathered up a PFCR of 69-49 and nine of those fights were against slightly younger opponents. Will Uk’s superior wrestling and knowledge of Hapkido improve his chances in the clinch or will he seek a takedown? This one will be hard to call and anything could happen at any moment.

170 lbs division Sam Hall vs Liam Donnelly

Two hometown heroes from Dublin, Ireland will look to gain fame both in Montreal and abroad as they fight to prove who's the stronger Celtic warrior. Sam Hall returns to Legacy! after a stunning decision victory over Kim II Sung who had quickly gained momentum up until that point. Hall knew that if we was going to have success against Sung he would have to wind him by stuffing takedowns early and that’s exactly what he did. Only two minutes into the first round Sam had stuffed 3 takedowns and Sung was beginning to perspire, Sam had gotten in his head and negated one of Sung’s most dangerous weapons. Sung was panic stricken at this point and decided to stand toe to toe with Hall and land some strikes of his own but, he made a fatal error in underestimating Hall’s striking ability. As Sung advanced Hall stayed on the outside and connected with numerous body shots to compound Sung’s stamina issue. Dismayed, Sung sought to even the score with some knees in a clinch but, his success was limited. The second and third rounds continued in much the same way. Hall would control the pace early in each round and a disheartened Sung would swing away in the last half trying to recover but, his efforts were for nil as Hall proved he can defend Sung’s strikes just as well as he could defend his takedowns. After 3 round the inevitable occurred and Hall had his hand raised over a defeated Sung after landing 14 out of 20 headshots. It was also inevitable for Sung to berate the western world in his post fight new conference. He’s been quoted as having said ‘Eat my feces you filthy capitalist dog!' It’s apparent that Sam Hall has become a new man under manager Scott Davies and the pair have big plans for the future as they take on Liam Donnelly. At the young age of 18 Liam had fallen into the IRA and became known as the guy you wanted next to you in a scrap. This notoriety came with a penalty and he caught the attention of police. Liam was tipped off and cleaned up his act, giving the police no reason to suspect him of any wrongdoing or so he thought… In a day long sting operation police photographed Donnelly drunk in a bar, smoking tobacco on Grafton Street and, refusing to offer a leprechaun a portion of his meal. To his surprise Donnelly discovered that all of these things were illegal under Irish law. Seriously, Google it. I’ll wait... After calling Liam a ‘gobshite’ the local judge sentenced him to five years in prison where he offered his protection in exchange for pruno and cigarettes. In only a matter of days Donnelly was in the limelight and the warden took notice. He sensed an opportunity and began an exchange program that allowed Donnelly to fight outside the prison in professional fights. The stipulations were that Donnelly must surrender all prize money to the prison in exchange for a one year reduction of his sentence for each victory. Naturally Donnelly fought hard and won his first 5 professional fights with ease but, the warden failed to uphold his end of the bargain and Liam was enraged. He began throwing every other fight in order to reduce the warden’s profit. The scandal became public and to avoid a lawsuit Donnelly was released from prison and given his prize money. Now 9-4 Donnelly intends to right the wrongs on his professional record as he makes his premier in Legacy! Both of these fighters possess sensational boxing and it will certainly be on display in this fight, with that said these two have put up nearly even numbers throughout their careers and it’s hard to pick who has the edge but, Sam Hall is the larger fighter by 9 cm and 18 lbs while Donnelly has never been knocked out. Sam will also have a strong advantage in wrestling and MT and he’ll be looking to dominate from the top if this fight goes to the ground. Liam will have options when he’s on his back and he’s going to try to force Liam into his guard or land a sweep and control from the top.

265 lbs division Robbie Luatua vs Dave Brown

To open up the main card of this event two of the big boys make their legacy debuts and will fight to position themselves for a shot at Terrell Grant’s 265 lbs. title. It has yet to be determined if these two have the skills but, there’s no doubt that they will both bring everything to the table to convince you! Born and raised in Christchurch, New Zealand Robbie Luatua was fond of making faces at passing motorists as a child. One day his father told him that if he continued to do that his face might get stuck that way forever. He laughed at the jest but, he had been cursed. As he grew older Luatua took an interest in the family business that would one day be his inheritance. After a series of earthquakes the Luatua’s lost their home and business. It was at this time that Robbie learned that his father had been squandering the insurance money for the properties on scratch tickets and farmville. The disgusted look he gave his father as he left to LA remains on his face to this very day. Robbie lost his MMA debut but, there was no turning back as he had nothing for him back in New Zealand. He trained harder than ever and won his next 4 fights consecutively and earned a bit of financial security to begin rebuilding his life. After those first 4 fights Luatua faced a hard schedule that culminated in a victory over RocknRolla in Immortals PPV event. With nearly $75k in his bank account Luatua stopped fighting for the money looong ago. Now he likes to step into the ring and imagine his challenger is his father before knocking them out. The strategy has thus far proven very effective and he has punched his way to 4 KO’s, 3 TKOs and the 1 decision win. Whether he’s in the horizontal or the vertical Dave Brown is dangerous. Throughout his career he has acquired 6 (T)KO in addition to 3 submission wins. Dave has however had bad luck with decisions and has narrowly lost every one with the exception of a fight that ended in a draw mix, that with a narrow split decision loss and you have a man who lacks any faith in the judges. This has been reshaping Dave’s strategy throughout his entire career and regardless of what the horribly incompetent judges say, Dave keeps on smiling. Luatua usually swings away at most opponents and will it’s probable that we’ll see his aggressive side in this match up. They might be evenly matched up in the boxing department but, Dave Brown has the honor of bringing world class MT into the cage wherever he goes. Instead of using this Muay Thai for clinch work, Brown instead prefers to kick. A punch from a heavyweight fighter would knock out most people but, a head kick? Now, that’s a different story and Brown has some of the best. He enjoys dealing them out very conservatively when his foes least expect it. Since neither of these fighters have ever landed a takedown fans shouldn’t hold their breath in expectation of one but if this fight does go to the ground Luatua will attempt to transition to his feet while Brown uses his superior BJJ to work a submission.
