 The face of MMA is changing in Rio de Janeiro with the opening of a brand new fight org, Rio Chain Gang. The Rio Chain Gang bunch are not only known for their expertise in the cage but also for their anitsocial behavior. This reporter is concerned for the good citizens of Rio with all the ex-convicts and general scoundrels coming into our fair city. How our city officials can allow this to happen escapes me.
Mayor Eduardo Paes declined to be interviewed for this article, but his office did release the following statement: "The city welcomes Rio Chain Gang with open arms. Citizens need not be worried by the false claims made by the anti-business media. Also, Rio Chain Gang has promised to pay the city for any additional security costs incured due to org events." The spokesman refused to make any further comments.
I did get the chance to speak with org owner Alan Maynard, although only for a moment as he rushed into his office. All he would say is "no worries, no worries, we don't allow rapist or child molesters." Later in the day, he released the following statement "Rio Chain Gang is now signing fighters (ID 270+) to all weight divisions. The meaner the fighters bio looks, the better the contract offer."
I am appallled at the attitude of owner Alan Maynard and the cities response to citizens concerns. We all need to write the mayors office now and let him know we won't stand for this. Perhaps together we can all stop this travesty now, before it is too late.
