CCF 59: Spanked vs. Monteiro! PREVIEW

Event Preview: CCF 59: Spanked vs. Monteiro!
Cornell Cage Fighting
2012-06-17, Los Angeles, Hyashi's Lounge - Los Angeles
Author:K Rad

Ladies and gentlemen I am K-Rad and I am very pleased to be bringing to you a very special event.  No, not just the fact that I am actually writing something for all you ducklings once more, but it is part of it!  Tonight we see the true and ultimate showdown between the top two fighters of our 185lbs Creation Tournament.  Spanked and Monteiro, along with Adams, were the top 3 fighters out of this excellent and enjoyable tournament and as such entered a round-robin pool in which the fighter with the most points took all.  As it turned out, Spanked beat the formerly unstoppable Monteiro, something Spanked's manager Ruphus Duphus said was the result of careful planning and training in which Spanked would peak late in the tournament.  A risky tactic as the chance was always there that he would be knocked out of the tournament early but it paid off well, his victory bringing retribution to an early tournament loss against Monteiro himself.  With the scores 1-all and Spanked taking the top prize money, tonight's co-main event is all about the two men hitting the cage to make it best out of 3 and see who scores the ultimate pride and bragging rights!I'd put them in the main event but it screws with the damn attendance and event rating, sorry boys!  If that isn't enough for you, we also have the welterweight title being contested as Kincade looks to defend the belt once more and the hugely hyped and in form Saratuwari looks to score the blingbling and revenge himself for a previous title shot loss.  With so much action to follow, let's take a look at the top 5 fights of the night:

Tom Jones vs. Wes "The Knockout King" Weddle
Featherweight

Those of you who have been around CCF for a little while now will know Jones as a monster of the featherweight division.  A previous title holder and 4 time defender of the belt, Jones is a man who menaced the 145lbs into a state of terror and he is not keen to be forgotten just because he no longer wears the crown.  "The KO King" Weddle has had a pretty mixed run over the course of his career but with a 3 fight win streak under his belt he is looking to turn things around.  Despite having terrible morale, possibly as a result of over training, stinky clothes and a bad run of form in the now defunct UCLA organisation, Weddle is still a formidable man with some great skills.  Tonight will see two quality standup strikers go toe-to-toe, fireworks flying and most likely the fight keeping mostly to feet which should keep the fans happy!  Both men are capable of winning by KO, sub or decision so I am expecting a top quality fight which pulls no punches.  A difficult fight to call but to be honest I am concerned by "KO Kings" poor morale and I think this lack of heart is quite possibly going to result in Jones taking a decision win.

Barn Cat vs. "The" Great Cornholio
Featherweight

Two more very exciting featherweights are Cat, the flexible freak show who has claimed all but 2 of his KO wins via head kick and one of those 2 was still a kicking KO, taking on Cornholio who has just recently joined the organisation from DBC after an unfortunate 2 fight losing streak.  With Cat coming in 10cm shorter and 10lbs lighter it will be a real test of his kicking game tonight to see how he takes on a man who prefers the Western style and will be keen as mustard to get this fight to the floor if possible.  This is due to Cornholio having a purple belt as compared to Cat's white and with all of the former's wins coming via submission you can see quite easily where he is most comfortable.  This will be a great fight as the two men struggle to make their gameplan the dominant one but with Cat only going to decision once and all of his fights being finished one way or another within the first 4 minutes of round 1, I am tipping him to claim a KO victory.

Gully God vs. "P" Randall McMurphy
Middleweight

To keep the action going we have a middleweight bout which has come about due to a challenge thrown down by "P" McMurphy.  He specifically requested this fight and in his correspondence he told me that he thinks God and his team are overrated and that he is going to be the man to prove it.  Even without this kind of feud thrown into the mix the fans would be frothing at the loins for this matchup but with this extra drama it could well turn into something very special.  God is currently undefeated, the only man to come close was this very same opponent, "P" McMurphy when the two men drew after 3 rounds back in CCF 45.  Since then God has beaten two of CCF's Hall Of Famers and McMurphy has beaten one and an ex-champ.  Fine pedigrees for both of these men and aside from God's slight Thai and wrestling advantage and McMurphy's little extra size, the two men are quite evenly matched.  With both men in form, fresh and pumped for this bout it is difficult to pick a winner but I am going to go with God to claim a KO win as his record and ability to score a KO has been exceptional so far.

Gonna "Get" Spanked vs. "The Professor" Marcello Monteiro
Middleweight. Co-Main Event!

The future of middleweight MMA is right here before us in the co-main event.  As mentioned in the introduction, "Get" Spanked and "The Professor" Monteiro are the top 2 fighters of the 185lbs creation tournament and both men have only ever lost once.  And that loss has been to each other.  This is all about pride and the ability to stand up and say ridiculous things like, "Who's your daddy now, bitch?".  In terms of style, Monteiro is a submission grappler and Spanked is a ground and pounded with both men equally matched in standing terms.  Spanked will be hoping he is able to keep the fight standing as much as possible to avoid tempting Monteiro's submission abilities and this means we're likely to see this fight go to decision once more.  Both men have been training solidly for the last month in preparation for this bout and they are almost identical in size so once more this is going to be a battle of the wits with the winner gaining the glory thanks to his game plan.  Last time we did see plenty of ground fighting and Spanked was highly impressive with his aggressive style against the higher ranked roller.  Who will win this bout?  No idea!  Just to be an arsehole I am going to tip it to be a draw!  May the lord of chaos reign supreme!

"The Slick Monkey" Kegon Saratuwari vs. Rory Kincade
Welterweight. Main Event TITLE FIGHT!

The main event of the night is a title fight between two of CCF's biggest names.  The current 170lbs title holder Kincade looks to defend his belt for the 5th time and once more it is against the very impressive Saratuwari.  Kincade is the far smaller man here as "The Slick Monkey" has an extra 16cm and 29lbs on the champ but Kincade has not shown any trepidation in fighting 2 classes above his natural weight.  In terms of skills, Saratuwari is the superior wrestler and has shown an impressive submission game whereas Kincade holds the Thai boxing answers to try to counter any takedowns.  Both men have a tendency to go to decision which is a testament to their fitness and chin tenacity and last time these two met the fight was decided in the clinch.  For my mind I can't see anything changing this time around and I expect Kincade to hold his own once more and take the win thanks to a judge's decision.

And there you have it boys and girls, all of the latest CCF 59: Spanked vs. Monteiro action!  As you may have noticed, I have been actively recruiting for all divisons lately and CCF has swelled to 230 members (and growing!).  This has been done whilst trying to keep a good environment for the young up-and-comers to learn and grow whilst expanding the amount of competition for the big boys who have already grown from strength to strength and now dominate the divisions they fight in.  I'd like to welcome all of the new fighters and their management and remind you all I am open at all times for fight requests, suggestions, questions or advice, etc and so forth!  From K-Rad and the CCF team, peace!
