CLINT LOMAX, CAGE WARS HILO
Bamtamweight, Featherweight and Lightweight Champion
In mid-2011 Clint Lomax was thought to be near unstoppable....and then he was STOPPED by Joe Crippler in one of the biggest upsets of the year. And STOPPED AGAIN by Pepe Silvia. Hoping to start anew, Lomax signed with Cage Wars Hilo in July, where he was immediately defeated by Fox, making it 3 losses in a row. Yes, his record in July was still a great 19-4, but many doubted that Lomax could make a comeback. Lomax even doubted himself.
"I actually convinced myself that if I didn't beat Maguire, I was leaving MMA forever", Lomax admitted recently. Lomax did beat Macguire, KOing him in the 3rd round. He was then given a title shot against Brian Harvey, the reigning Bantamweight champion who had successfully defended his title twice. "I didn't want to just win the title, I wanted to make a statement", Lomax said. And that he did, knocking out the champ in just 3 minutes. Lomax immediately challenged Fox to a rematch and took a fight 12 days later, even though doctors said he needed 16 days to recover from a sprained wrist.
"I didn't give a shit about my wrist", said Lomax..."I still had one good fist and 2 good legs". Fox took him the distance, but Lomax was victorious winning 4 of the 5 rounds. Lomax wanted something bigger. "I told Cliff Biff (Cage Wars Owner) that I wanted more; that one title wasn't enough. I wanted the featherweight championship and I wanted it now" said Lomax. 22 days later Lomax KOed 22-7 Tszyu, taking the vacant featherweight championship.
16 days after winning his 2nd title, Lomax defended it against Machida with a KO in the 2nd minute of the 1st round. Lomax wasn't done.
In a surprise post-fight interview, Lomax challenged the reigning Lightweight champion Kekoa Kai. This was Kai's 2nd LW title reign, with 7 of his last 8 fights involved for the belt. "I'm coming for your title, too", Lomax exclaimed in the middle of the octagon..."and I'm not waiting for this one either." The contract was signed the next day, Lomax would face Kai in just 14 days' time.
Lomax vs Kai went just like every other recent fight. 2 minutes and 21 seconds later, Kai was on the floor. Lomax had gone from near retirement, to holding 3 titles in the #5 organization in the world!
Lomax admits that it might not be the best time to go for more titles. "I think some of these contenders deserve a chance to be knocked the fuck out".
