Event Preview - RCG 6: Kettu vs Jenkinson

Event Preview: RCG 6: Kettu vs Jenkinson
Rio Chain Gang 270+
2016-01-16, Rio de Janeiro, Hard Knocks - Rio
Author:Alan Maynard

Coming up this Saturday Rio Chain Gang and Victory! Sports Nutrition presents RCG 6: Kettu vs Jenkinson at the Hard Knocks in Rio. In a special promotion, it will be autograph night. After the conclusion of the fights, the fighters (those still conscious anyway) will spend time with the fans signing autographs and answering questions.

What an amazing night of fights we have scheduled. Two title fights, and eight fights pitting some of the baddest bad asses in Rio against each other.

The undercard starts off with a light heavyweight bout featuring Mr “HaHAhAhaHA” Joker (1-0) squaring off against Babadou Barry (2-1).

Mr Joker is not only crazy in general, but he is a true madman in the cage. A ground and pound specialist that shows no mercy. Barry, a great boxer will need to avoid the takedown here, Barry has the power to get the KO but if it goes to the ground he is in big trouble.

Al says: Mr Joker by TKO early in round one.

Next up is a middleweight fight between Derek “Sacka” Patterson (1-0) and “Captain” Jason Shepard (4-7).

Shepard, a war hero, is still nursing an old war injury. It seemed to flare up in his last fight and caused him a loss that time. Don't let his record fool you Shepard is a great boxer. Patterson is a rising star that showed off his BJJ skills in his debut with a beautiful submission victory. This will be a great fight, but I think experience will prove to make the difference here.

Al says: Shepard by decision.

Next up is a match up between two Muay Thai specialists with Haku Ryu (5-2) going toe to toe with Frank Schuurman (4-4).

Ryu makes his RCG debut against one of the most dangerous clinch fighters in MMA today. I get excited just thinking about this fight, Ryu has been a dominate Muay Thai fighter and can handle himself in and out of the clinch. Schuurman has shown he has fantastic clinchwork and can deliver a punch with power. This one will be fireworks.

Al says: Flip a coin.

We finish off the undercard with a heavyweight fight between Pierre “Slam Slam” Van Gogh (4-2) and Paddy “Monster” Mc Guiness (9-11).

Van Gogh is a rising star while McGuiness is seemingly on the decline. Van Gogh is a highly skilled ground fighter and if this fight goes to the ground McGuiness will be in some real trouble. McGuiness must try to keep it standing if he is to have a chance. He has shown some tremendous power in the past but that loss in the season ending tournament on the island seems to have broken his spirit. Van Gogh dominates.

Al says: Van Gogh by submission, round two.

The main card begins with a middleweight match up with Jan “Viking” Hautala (2-0) taking on Armen Petrosyan (7-5).

The undefeated Hautala has some real power, scoring a first round knockout in his last outing but is still untested against a fighter of Petrosyan's skill in the clinch. Both of these fighters like to fight in the clinch and both fight aggressively so this one will be action filled. I can see this one going either way but again I will go with experience, Petrosyan bounces back with a W.

Al says: Petrosyan by KO round two.

Next up is a welterweight fight with Gary “Goat” Glover (5-2) facing Luk Yuha (9-6).

After starting his career off with five straight victories, Glover is trying to bounce back after back to back defeats. Yuha is under new management, and his new manager says he expects great things from him. He is a highly skilled boxer that has shown some real power his last couple fights. Luha is also know around the gym as a bit of a practical joker, always trying to put bubblegum in other fighters hair. Once he was even caught trying to take gum into the cage. Anyway, Glover's misery continues.

Al says: Yuha by KO in round one.

This next fight should be a war within a cage, a middleweight bout with Sonny “Stacks” Bradford (10-7) going up against Doo Doo Brown (7-2).

Brown is a rising star with incredible potential while Bradford is an experienced and dangerous fighter. Both of these fighters can handle themselves on the ground just as well as they can in the stand up. I can see this one going either way but I will go with Brown in what will be a hard fought battle. Brown bounces back after disappointing loss last outing.

Al says: Brown by decision.

We finish off the main card with “Prince” Yngve Stolt (4-0) making his first title defense in the bantamweight division against Teppo Tavi (15-7) in a scheduled five round fight.

Stolt, the RCG bad boy of the month for December, is a great fighter but will be facing the toughest opponent in his short career. Tavi is a very talanted fighter who will give the champ his first real test. I would be undecided about this fight but hey, who could possibly go against the Oracle. Stolt wins a close one.

Al says: Stolt by decision.

Our first main event is a heavyweight fight between Bruce Honeybottom (13-6) and Furry Monster Truck (8-5).

Both of these fighter are trying to bounce back after losing their RCG debuts. Honeybottom has a lot of heart, but has a suspect chin. Despite his lack of stand up skills, he has pulled out many victories using his wrestling skills in the clinch. Truck is a powerful boxer capable of dropping any opponent with one punch. I fear Honeybottom's chin can't withstand Trucks power.

Al says: Truck by KO round two.

The main event of the evening is the fight everyone has been talking about for weeks. Roan “The Monster” Jenkinson (7-1) will challenge the RCG undisputed heavyweight champion of the world Kalle Kettu (12-5) for the championship belt.

This will be a great stand up battle with two boxers going toe to toe. Jenkinson's knickname is “The Monster”, but Kettu is the real monster here. Kettu has some AWESOME power, and anyone that goes in the cage with him will have their chin put to the test. Jenkinson likes to fight in the clinch, so expect him to try to clinch up often. Although that strategy worked well in his last fight to earn this title shot, it will not help him here. If Jenkinson can stay conscious long enough to get into the clinch all he will find there is more pain. Kettu takes this one easy.

Al says: Kettu by KO EARLY in round one.

And that's it, ten great fights and time with the fans. There are still a few tickets available, get your tickets now before they sell out. Looking forward to seeing you there.
