GAMMA #534 - REVIEW - January 23rd, 2016 - Los Angeles, California - L.A. Memorial Collosuseum

Stelio “The Greek” Kontos (12-4, 1-0 GAMMA) [Legion of Doom] VS. Hossein Vaziri, Jr. (26-9-1, 1-2 GAMMA) [Five Points Gang] Light Heavyweight (205)

Our first fight on the main card saw GAMMA newcomer Stelio Kontos, who is represented by Hans Ulrich Krafft, taking on the veteran, Iranian fighter Hossein Vaziri, Jr., a fighter under the tutelage of Aleksey Igorievich. “The Greek” came in to this one riding a five fight winning streak dating back to August of 2015, whereas Vaziri was coming off of his first GAMMA victory. Vaziri came out willing to stand, but countered with some takedowns, playing to the strength of his wrestling. Unfortunately for him, the young Greek phenom was able to keep this fight standing, where he got the better of Vaziri from start to finish. Body shots and head shots combined to impress the judges, as Kontos took this one and extended his streak to six consecutive victories. Vaziri will need a victory in his next bout if he wants to make some progress in a star-studded division.

RESULT: Kontos def. Vaziri via Unanimous Decision in the 3rd Round (5:00)

Agent 47 “Hitman” (15-6, 2-2 GAMMA) [Legion of Doom] VS. “Rip” Rufus McTearson (29-13-2, 12-8-2 GAMMA) [Milwaukee’s Best] Welterweight (170)

Agent 47, a relatively new signature of legendary manager Mentor Corleone, took on the former champion and a longtime GAMMA competitor in McTearson, one of Don Jaehnke’s fighters. McTearson knows what it takes to be at the top of this division, and he came in with a chip on his shoulder, seeing the man who took the title from him at the top of the card. “Hitman” sensed the emotion in his opponent early, and took McTearson to the ground in order to grind out a victory. McTearson came back, however, and kept it standing in the 2nd, landing some hard shots on 47. It was after a huge hook landed in that round that 47 was forced to come back out in the 3rd still feeling the impact, and “Rip” capitalized, putting 47 out with a huge straight shot that would have felled even the most ferocious fighter. McTearson will look to capture gold once again, while 47 is left to look for a rebound victory in the next one out.

RESULT: McTearson def. 47 via T.K.O. (Strikes) in the 3rd Round (0:10)

Kira “Gaijin” Miyata (21-12, 5-4 GAMMA) [Legion of Doom] VS. Karate Kid (28-8, 6-2 GAMMA) [The Money Team!!!] Featherweight (145)

Alika Webb’s “Gaijin” came in to this one looking to avenge a previous loss against Kevin Johnson’s Karate Kid. A close 1st round saw the fight stop momentarily, as an incidental kick from Kid landed in the “Gaijin’s” groin. The 2nd saw the second takedown from Miyata, and it became clear that, if he was going to win this one, it would be by his excellent grappling ability. Entering the 3rd, this one could have gone either way, and it looked as though Miyata might get his vengeance after all. Miyata took Kid to the mat, but could not land any punishment, as the referee was forced to stand the combatants up. Leg kicks and counter shot from Kid may have won him the match, as the judges gave it to him in a majority decision. Kid has earned himself a shot at gold, but don’t be surprised if Miyata comes back for him soon.

RESULT: Kid def. Miyata via Majority Decision in the 3rd Round (5:00)

Keijo Harkimo (33-21, 2-0 GAMMA) [Legion of Doom] VS. Convicted Killer (23-10, 7-4 GAMMA) [Legion of Doom] Super Heavyweight (265+)

Two big boys fighting under the same alliance banner came in to this one looking for a huge victory, as Nero Wolfe’s Harkimo came in seeking to stay undefeated in GAMMA, but faced stiff competition in Jd Chilltown’s Killer, who had been riding a four fight K.O. streak. Killer came out establishing himself as the aggressor in this one, but Harkimo cut Killer early in this one. This shook Killer, as Harkimo took control after that cut and never lost it. Powerful body kicks and punches had Killer on his heels, before another hook from Harkimo opened up his cut even more. A huge uppercut but Killer on his back and ended this one early, as well as drawing Killer’s winning streak to a close. This one earned the K.O. of the night bonus for Harkimo, and he will look to take that momentum with him in to his next bout. Killer is still a force in this division, so it is incredibly likely that we will see more out of him soon.

RESULT: Harkimo def. Killer via T.K.O. (Strikes) in the 1st Round (3:36)

Renan St. Juste (c) (55-17-2 1 NC , 33-13-2, 1 NC GAMMA) [Legion of Doom] VS. Galloway Sackett (13-4, 1-1 GAMMA) [The Broken Halo Pride] Welterweight (170) CHAMPIONSHIP

One of the greatest fighters in the history of this sport, Gale Hawthorne’s golden boy Renan St. Juste, came in to this one against the relatively unknown young man, Barnabas Sackett’s man, Galloway Sackett. St. Juste, the former #1 pound for pound and a living legend in mixed martial arts, proved himself a fighting champion once again, taking on a man who came in to this one with 9 straight wins. Sackett got to work right away, showing he was not intimidated by opening a very nasty cut on St. Juste, pounding him with strikes through the first three rounds, before St. Juste caught Sackett and rocked him. The young challenger was put on his heels, as he was able to make Sackett miss more than hit, even despite the young man’s impressive athleticism. St. Juste is a beauty to watch, as he recovered from the rough first set of rounds into a trademark St. Juste performance, landing with hard shots while being impossible to hit. At the end, it truly could have gone either way, which is a great of a compliment to Sackett as you can give. Our main event and fight of the night certainly did not disappoint, and GAMMA fans worldwide will be eagerly awaiting a rematch between these two in the future!

RESULT: St. Juste def. Sackett via Majority Decision in the 5th Round (5:00)
