VERSUS VENDETTA V PREVIEW

Event Preview: VERSUS VENDETTA 5
VERSUS (GEG)
2012-06-30, London, Knights Court
Author:Drake Bradstone

VERSUS VENDETTA V - 30th June (Knights Court - London)

Brought to you by VERSUS in association with GTi 1337 "Win with Style"

Fight One - Joe Bell (12-10) v Brewster Burns (30-22) - 135lb

The Versus debutant Joe Bell with have his hands full with the oldest and most experienced fighter on the roster Brewster Burns. Burns, now 33, has seen it all and whaever Joe Bell has in store Burns will know how to counter BUT knowing and having the ability to do anything are two different things. However, now under the tootiledge of the "Pioneer of MMA" Tom Breedon I am sure that whatever Burn's peak condition consists of nowadays Tom will have him in that very state come that "ring a ding ding" of the fight bell. Another bell, that's Joe Bell, will be looking to make a huge splash in his Versus debut. I am sure Joe will look to use his speed advantage and fancy footwork to test the veterans endurance and chin. An extremely interesting opening fight for the purists!!

Fight Two - Nick Shamrock (22-13) v Billy Riley (9-16) - 135lb

"Irish" Nick Shamrock has relied on his Ju Jitsu skills early on in his career but as the step up in competition has gotten tougher Nick has developed a good grasp of kicks and kness, especially in the clinch where Nick often causes issues for his opponents. Billy Riley is a bit of a puzzle, an established boxer with not a single ko victory to his name. Riley has gone the distance in 16 out of 25 fights, so Shamrock better be ready for 3 rounds of sparring, light sparring!

Fight Three - Wilfried Handel (18-13) v Mazard Unis (13-12) - 170lb

Can Unis handle the Handel??? With 17 out of 18 wins coming within the distance and the winner of 12 OTN awards Handel is a promoters wet dream. Handel over his career has also shown great depth with his gameplans, if he can't get the takedown he doesn't panic and dukes it out on the feet with the best of them. However, Im sure that Unis has been working on his takedown defence to counteract Handel's greatest threat, the anaconda like grip of a Ju Jitsu Saint. How do Unis win, well war has to be the answer!

Fight Four - Todd Haskins (16-10) v Fergus McRedd (19-5) - 185lb

Nice balance Haskins.....Lend us a quid! Aparently Fergus asked for this match so he could put to bed the rumours of fight fixing from their first encounter. The judges were split in the first fight with two of them giving Fergus the important first round, but later on those two judges were seen in a newsagents purchasing a quarter ounce of cough drops and who picked up the bill? well obviously we can't talk about it. But the Haskins camp have decided to accept the out of court settlement of a rematch to end all this controversy in the only way that Versus fans prefer. Haskins v McRedd will be the fans choice.

Fight Five - Jack Clark (10-8) v Raymond Chow (17-8) - 135lb

Another contender for a OTN award with the always banging Jack Clark against another man who is always looking for the finish Raymond Chow. Don't let the age difference fool you here because even at 22 Clark is well seasoned and had to learn how to fight in the cage from 18. Most of Clarks training has been done in the cage with 18 fights in such a short period of time, which over half took place here in Versus. Chow needs to beat the likes of Clark if he wants to push towards the top half of the 135lb division and prove that he may be worthy of a main event before retirment.

Fight Six - Col J.T Hall (20-12) v Sigmund Bjorn (8-7) - 265+lb

Now with all these bantamweight fighters running around these two are going to look like King Kong and Godzilla. The Colonel is still searching for gold and has come close on numerous occassions. J.T Hall knows that the greatest gold on the planet is right here at Versus and I am sure that he sees Bjorn as a stepping stone to another chance, somewhere down the line, at the Super Heavyweight crown. Now I'm sure Stonewell Jackson is bald, because he must be scratching his head everytime Sigmund Bjorn gets beat because Bjorn is a beast and has fantastic pedigree. Bjorn has pro-boxing experience, has entered numerous Thai fighting events, wrestled for the Swedish national team and has taken Silver at the Pan American Absolute Brown Belt, losing on points to the great Roger Gracie. But with all these credentials Bjorn has an average MMA record and has probably lost fights that he shouldn't have lost. Will this be the turning point?

Fight Seven - Lolo Delaroca (10-3) v Slava Rysakov (8-1) - 135lb

Lolo, a student of the Don Frye's Fight Club, YESS Don F@cking Frye what a legend!!!, is looking to get noticed and Im sure he will if he manages to beat the rising star Slava Rusakov. Rysakov is showing pure sexy skills with impressive use of flying knees, superman punches and rangey axe kicks. Is this guy too clean for MMA?? If Rysakov shows a bit of steel and manages to get past a rough and ready Delaroca ten I think we may have a future Versus bantamweight champion on our hands here. DON FRYE!!!!

Fight Eight - Sam Kwaak (8-2) v Datu I (15-8) - 145lb

Now then, I am afraid that I can't give any preview on this fight. The reason being is because Knobby the Garden Gnome gave such an informative insight into this epic battle on my show, Versus "Before the Bell", that the producers have forbidden me to discuss it. All I can do is point you in the direction of todays episode. The link is available at the end of this pre event mail.

Co-Main Event - Mr Chrome (14-3) v Gustavo Ramirez (11-7) - 185lb

A PFA Hall of Famer, Mr Chrome has informed me that he is ready to take Versus by storm and challenge himself to the top of the division. To see the full intereview with Chrome where I absolutely kicked his ass in a heavy sparring session at the GTi-1 gym go to the Versus Official Thread (link at teh bottom of this mail). Ramirez has nothing to lose, a legit BJJ Black Belt who earned his strap in the heart land of submission grappling, the city of Sao Paolo. A win here for Ramirez is not expected but could happen, come on 10 wins via submission, I like this guy.

Main Event - Mike Puska (25-5) v Handsome CPW (24-5) - 135lb

The 5th bantamweight fight surely is the closest matchup on the card, just look at their records people!!! After a very cold night I managed to talk to Puska, who very kindly invited rouns his house for an ineterview, which ofcourse you can see on Versus "Before the Bell". Puska was very respectful of his opponent and recognises that this fight will surely produce the next bantamweight number one contender. This fight reminds me of Nick Diaz v Carlos Condit, both fighters are in their prime and have fantastic records. Hopefully this fight will be much more entertaining.

That's it folks, it's just time now to say your prayers and take your vitamins. VERSUS VENDETTA 5 is going to be electric, dammit I forgot to pay my electric bill, oh well enjoy all the fast pace action that the bantamweights are going to bring.

For the best in analytic chat be sure to watch the VERSUS pre show "Before the Bell" on the Official Versus Smacktalk Thread below.
