Event: GKNY 55 – 05.03.2016 @ The Liberty Done

Good evening fight fans!

Welcome to the first issue of GKNY Fight Preview. To kick us off, today we are having a peak at GKNY55. The famous “GAMMA Kids” brand will be lighting up the skylines in the local New York area on the 5th of March, packing out the Liberty Dome arena with some great fights on the card.

As a special gift for our first edition we will be previewing the full fight card. Let’s not waste any time and get down to the action!

#1 - Gonzalez (263382) vs Papin (259692) – 205lbs

The undercard kicks off with what could very well be a bloody slug fest. Jesse "Gorilla" Gonzalez takes on "Mr Right" Jean Pierre Papin. Gonzalez is 8 and 2 and on a one fight streak, and Papin is sitting pretty undefeated at 2 and 0. Both these guys like to stand and bang, but the key to this fight will be the clinch. Expect Papin to clinch early and start landing bombs from inside. Gonzalez can be a bleeder, so it could be a busy bout for the cut man.

Prediction: Papin by 1st round KO. Gonzalez has been knocked out twice in his career so far, and has a history of cutting. He won’t be able to match the control and power that Papin with bother him with in the clinch.

#2 - Gracie (264449) vs Walker (268683) – 205lbs

A classic tale of submission vs striking.

Huey "Young Master" Gracie is undefeated and definitely the favourite to take his opponents life. Four wins on the trot with three of those wins coming from creative submission. On the other side of the cage Kit "Phantom" Walker is ready to throw down. A striker on a one fight winning streak, whom managed to win his last fight by submission.

Prediction: Gracie should make him tap. Being a black belt in BJJ will be too much, I do not believe Walker has the skills to keep this one on the feet where he can dominate. Second round Submission by Gracie.

#3 - Complete (258223) vs Godfrey (261563) – 185lbs

Two MMA grinders are up in the cage next, both support average records and are looking to turn things around and make a charge for the top of the division. Mr Complete is hailing out of LA, sitting at 6 wins and 9 losses. He is an all-rounder, having no major weakness in any major discipline, and all 6 of his wins were by TKO. Bobby "The Irish" Godfrey is just as desperate for a win, supporting an even 4-4 record and is coming off a devastating loss. News out of the Godfrey camp is he is still supporting an injury, he is expected to be fit to fight – but this could play a big part in his build up to this showdown.

Prediction: At the risk of coping some slack for this one, I am putting my pennies on Mr Complete. If he is smart he will take it down to the canvas, Godfrey has next to no skills on his back, which is where the fight should end. Mr Complete by 2nd round stoppage.

#4 - Spencer (270194) vs Halleck (270926) - 145lbs

Who’s ready for a featherweight war?

Mark Spencer (270194) at 6-6 is in real trouble with this matchup. Coming off a loss by submission, and having a total of 5 losses on his record from being made to tap. Gurney Halleck (3-2) who is coming off a win will cause him too many problems.

Prediction: Halleck will take him down early, and get the finish from the ground in the very first round.

#5 - Mendez (265959) vs Epirus (269417) – 185lbs

Headlining the undercard for GKNY 55, Raul "Assasint" Mendez steps into the cage for his 7th fight with Gamma Kids and is looking to extend his win streak to 2 in a row. Ten of his wins can be attributed to his submission skills and is a good indicator of his plan going into this bout. Pyrrhus "Of" Epirus on the other hand has some decent defensive grappling skills and greatly out matches Mendez on his feet.

Prediction: This one could go either way, if Epirus can keep it standing he could get a stoppage by KO, but his confidence on a 2 fight losing spiral is very concerning. I am sticking to experience on this one, Mendez for the win, but it won’t be an easy walk.

Dim the lights and hit the pyro button, it is time for the main card!

#1 - Umalatov (273290) vs Blackfoot (274736) – 185lbs

Gasan "Cobra" Umalatov is on a two fight winning streak, bringing his record up to 5 wins and 3 losses. This guy is dangerous, working hard in camp to round his game, 4 of his 5 wins have come from submission finishes. His striking game seems to have improved greatly in recent times, but the question still remains as to whether he possesses the knock out power to stop the fight early.

Robby "The Bear" Blackfoot will be trying to cause the Cobra problems, the Canadian has 4 wins to his name with just two losses. His last outing ended in him being knocked senseless in the first round, and this author believes we are a great chance of seeing that again. Not to be taken lightly, he has some quick hands that can cause the best strikers problems, but unfortunately he lacks the killer instinct to take control of this contest.

Prediction: After infiltrating the Blackfoot camp I firmly believe this fighter is not ready for Umalatov at all, his confidence took a massive hit after the last loss and that will be the deciding factor. Umalatov to win, in the first round, for the first KO finish of his career. Umalatov by 1stDegree Murder.

#2 - Innokenti (260605) vs Castillion (260061) – 205lbs

Two evenly matched foreign warriors will come to blows shortly in our second fight of the main card. The heavy handed Russian Alexy Innokenti is out for blood, rebooting his career with a surge of two straight vicious knock outs. Supporting a record of 8-5-2, and now under new management, he has turned things around and boasts 7 of his eight wins from blunt force trauma, resulting in a T(KO) finish. This one could have fight of the night written on it.

Planning on ending his two fight streak is Miguel Castillion, a Spaniard fighting out of Las Vegas looking for revenge after a disappointing decision loss to Guli Glozman last month. Currently at 6-5-0 his main strength in this fight will be on the ground – if he can take advantage. With only one sub victory so far in his career we struggle to believe he can open the window, and close it decisively.

Prediction: Innokenti is on a roll, and seems destined to change his stars. Innokenti by clean knock out.

#3 - Man (268990) vs Eliasson (269145) – 205lbs

The German submission specialist, Skeng Man is out to prove a point after his after last fight ended in a loss by KO. A little one dimensional, with all 5 wins coming from submission, and all 3 loses coming by KO. Expect his opponent to keep this standing and attack him where he is weak.

The man knocking out the German Grappler will be the whitest man in Sweden, Erland "Nuke" Eliasson. A tried and true stand up banger. Majority of his wins and losses coming by TKO stoppage, making this fight perfect for his style. His camp are training hard in takedown defence to keep this standing and hand the German his fourth KO loss.

Prediction: KO of the night contender if the fight stays standing for Eliasson, ironically, submission of the night contender for Man if he manages to get it to the ground. Game plan will decide this one. Me? I am sticking with Eliasson, by KO in a brutal Russian fashion.

CO MAIN EVENT -Menace Defoe (268296) vs Erik Meen (264969) – 205lbs

Someone sober up the ring announcer, it’s time for the co-main event!

And what a fight it is going to be, a good old fashioned fist fight between two patriotic home grown American combatants. These two guys should go to war and damage each other’s facial features until one drops the other. And I for one can’t wait to see it unfold, and feel the blood spatter from ringside. (Yes, I have tickets, perks of being a reporter..)

Let’s break this down.

Menace Defoe, 2-0-0, fighting out of Las Vegas, he is undefeated winning both fights by KO. At only 22 years of age if this diamond in the rough is managed correctly he could be the face of GAMMA in years to come. He has the knock out power, his kicks come out of nowhere and has equipped a very notable ground game to back it up. This is a young star in the making.

His opponent, is a 21 year old mixed martial artist fighting out of Las Vegas. Erik Meen (5-4-0) is very evenly matched in every area. Menace is the better boxer by a very small margin, whereas Erik has the edge in Muay Thai, just.

Prediction: Menace Defoe is a world class boxer, his speed, his agility, and a well-rounded ground game - this kid is the complete package and will end this contest with panache. An early dusting is in order, round 1 KO victory to Defoe.

MAIN EVENT - Davey "Jnr" Gilly (263492) vs AJ "The Machine" McKenzie (261118) – 205lbs

It is that time, the main event. Proudly brought to you by Underworld Clothing, scheduled for three five minute rounds of action. In the Co-main event we had a home grown American clash, in the main event we have two imported pommy brawlers ready to make their mark on the US fighting scene.

In the Red Corner, he stands at 186cm Tall, weighing just under 205 pounds and fighting out of New York City. He has five wins, and six losses. He is a boxer, and he is ready to rumble, Davey "Jnr" Gilly!

And in the Blue Corner, standing 190cm tall, and making weight at 205 pounds. Fighting out of New York City, holding 9 wins and only three loses. He is hungry, and ready for revenge, AJ "The Machine" McKenzie!

McKenzie is the fan favourite, his fans have made it known they will be out in droves to support this fight. Coming off a loss, handed to him by current Champion Mick Dundee, “The Machine” is out to prove he deserves another shot at the gold belt. Gilly is the underdog, on paper, his skills and technique out shine his opponent by a small margin. Also coming off a loss he is also out to prove it was a fluke, and send AJ to the back of the queue. This is a big fight for Gilly, and could be his only shot. He needs a win here more than anything, and snagging one over a fighter who just lost a title fight would be a very bold start.

I suspect this fight will play out on their feet, possibly with some action in the clinch or against the cage. Both fighters have knock out power, expect a slower start while they test each other out, about midway through the first round the grenade will drop and explosions will implode. Both of these guys need the win.

Prediction: McKenzie has the experience, he has the drive to get back into that title race, and he looks more confident in a win. He is the bigger fighter and will enjoy a size advantage - McKenzie to hurt Gilly by stoppage.

As always, thank you to our sponsors and marketing partners for allowing us to put on a great local event for the fans. Until next time, this is Runt, train hard, and always hit harder.
