GAMMA #537 REVIEW - Gunnar vs Hun - Los Angeles, California, LA Memorial Colossuseum - 2.6.2016

Ein Stein (30-12-1, 16-7 GAMMA) [FinnFighters] VS. Russian “The Undead” Zombie (15-7, 6-3 GAMMA) [Qlimax] Featherweight (145)

In our first fight on the main card, Mr. Gutz’s fighter Stein, a former champion and a GAMMA competitor known to the organization’s many fans for his entertaining bouts, took on Bobby Heyman’s Russian Zombie, who came in with three consecutive victories and was looking to put Stein down for his fourth. The 1st round saw Zombie making good on his desire to do exactly that, as he controlled the pace and kept Stein at bay with nice crisp striking. The only time Stein was able to take Zombie off of his feet, he immediately got back up, and it looked, as the first five minutes drew to a close, that “The Undead” was going to get the best of the former champion. It continued in the early going of the 2nd, where Stein was cut, and Zombie was looking to finish. Stein, however, hit Zombie with an uppercut out of absolutely nowhere that turned out the lights for “The Undead”. Stein earned himself another shot at his coveted title with that victory, whereas Zombie will be looking to recover in the next one out.

RESULT: Stein def. Zombie via T.K.O. (Strikes) in the 2nd Round (3:49)

Afa “CRYBABY” Sila (19-5, 0-1 GAMMA) [Legion of Doom] VS. Josiah “the Spaceman” Bartlet (21-9-2, 7-3 GAMMA) [Ontario Dudes Club] Lightweight (155)

Next up was a much anticipated fight in the Lightweight division, as Rabid Alien’s “CRYBABY” took on Cause McDubree’s “Spaceman”. Sila and Bartlet stood in to each other in the 1st, throwing viciously without a ton of damage. A late round takedown scored for Bartlet, but the judges, in all likelihood, gave the round Sila. Roughly halfway through the 2nd Sila took Bartlet to the floor, holding “the Spaceman” down before a referee standup forced him to engage again. Clearly ahead on points, Sila was confident going in to the 3rd, and was still landing more shots than Bartlet until, practically out of nowhere, a huge left sent Sila to the floor where Bartlet mounted him. A few more strikes found their man and Sila was out cold, a scant 5 seconds from making it to the end of the fight and probably a decision victory. A gutsy performance from

Bartlet, as he showed why he is mainstay of GAMMA competition.

RESULT: Bartlet def. Sila via K.O. (Strikes) in the 3rd Round (4:55).

“The WarWagon” Jt Colossus (54-41-1, 27-24, 1 NC GAMMA) [THE ILLUMINATI] VS. Joe “Big Country Gage” (25-9, 1-0 GAMMA) [Legion of Doom] Super Heavyweight (265+)

A living legend was on this next fight, as Boondock The Destroyer sent out, to roaring applause, Jt Colossus, to fight against, making his GAMMA debut under new manager David Brent, Joe Gage. Gage started this one off using his feet to keep “The WarWagon” at bay, slapping him with hard kicks to the ribs and legs. Gage then decided to move in and clinch, punishing the legend with strikes up against the cage. The assault continued until an uppercut rocked Colossus, leaving him slinking against the cage as he fruitlessly tried to defend more punches. More and more punches found their mark, and just like that, Colossus fell to his knees in defeat. It marked Gage’s most impressive victory yet and his fourth in a row. Colossus, meanwhile, certainly has nothing left to prove but must still be devastated by losing the match.

I hope we will see him at least once more.

RESULT: Gage def. Colossus via T.K.O. (Strikes) in the 1st Round (3:49)

Nero “La Bestia” Padilla (26-13, 2-2 GAMMA) [Elite Punishment Inc.] VS. “The Power” Willy Stoppers (49-21, 12-5 GAMMA) [Legion of Doom] Light Heavyweight (205)

Manager Mentor Corleone’s Stoppers was up next, taking on the up and comer Padilla, who is himself managed by Louis Princip. This match was highly anticipated, as both men were vying after a chance to take the championship gold in their next match. Padilla wanted this one over quickly, as he came out aggressive and connected with a few shots to Stoppers. Unfortunately for Padilla, he should have been more careful of what he had wished for. A huge head kick marked the beginning of the end, and Padilla was left leaking red all over the canvas. Padilla tried to keep on fighting, landing a few punches as he was wobbly, before another humongous left hand took whatever fight was left out of him. Stoppers not only earned K.O. of the night, but a chance to get the gold in the Light Heavyweight division. Padilla will be looking to bounce back, as this was his second loss in a row.

RESULT: Stoppers def. Padilla via T.K.O. (Strikes) in the 1st Round (0:47)

Gunnar “Knoke Stovkost” Gustavsson (c) (31-8, 13-2 GAMMA) [Legion of Doom] VS. Attila “THE” Hun (18-5, 5-2 GAMMA) [Legion of Doom] Light Heavyweight (205) CHAMPIONSHIP

Whymer von Mastadon’s legend Gustavsson was up to defend his title against Atilla Hun, a representative of GSP’s Illegitimate Son. The world was watching as this one has been one of the most widely anticipated matchups in recent GAMMA history. The two men kept this one standing through the 1st, hitting each other with some strong punches and kicks before letting the time run out. Hun was not intimidated by the man across from him, as in the 2nd, Hun danced around the attempts to punch from Gunnar and landed plenty of more shots than the champion. The 3rd and 4th were the same, and a clearly frustrated Gunnar was starting to get sloppy in an attempt to keep his title where he felt it belonged. Finally, in the 5th and final, Gunnar was cut badly, as Hun clinched and kept the fight inside. Gunnar was bleeding for the remainder of the fight, and the world was shocked as the new champion’s took the fight via a unanimous decision. Easily the fight of the night, and perhaps the fight of the year, the GAMMA community was shocked and saddened as Gunnar decided to call it a career after this match. Hun certainly has some large shoes to fill, but if this fight was any indication, he is game.

RESULT: Hun def. Gustavsson (c) via Unanimous Decision in the 5th Round (5:00)
