ISLAND KOMBAT 2 Review

ISLAND FC, Fight Organization, New York
Company profile by

ISLAND COMBAT 2 was the second of a triology, put togheter to build up the divisions and keep all fighters busy, 3 events in 3 days,we should have some clues on what to expect from loads of newcomers and we have at least 1 champion defending hes belt on each event too...this event however, broke records in income and hype....our best event so far and when this kind of joyfull moments happend it feels very rewarding the hard work the crew has put in....let me go straight into it ,no time to waste:

Main Event 185 lbs TITLE  Carlos Newton vs Rick James (SUBMISSION OF THE NIGHT)
Rick James has been a dominant force in this division ,but hes reign has a champion came to an end here....he faced another top Judo fighter and was completly wrong with hes aproach of trying to clinch...you dont clinch against a judo fighter...as soon as they clinched Newton smilled ,because he knew that this was about to get nasty for the champion...Newton swifly pulled guard  and worked for a very quick armbar from the bottom....1st round submission win

Co-Main Event 265 lbs Zui Quan Tso vs Heath Herring (FIGHT OF THE NIGHT)
Heath looked very confident, even being outmatched, he kept himself in the contest showing great heart and determination...he managed to survive round one, when he was litteraly saved by the bell...Tso was the superior all round fighter and showed tactical maturaty, not rushing into the finish he just kept countering and favoured the clinch from where he was causing most of the damage...we tought Heath was going to,just, make it to the break but this time hes chin couldnt take it anymore, and hes legs refused to go on....Good 2nd round TKO win for Zui Quan Tso

265 lbs Cam Fowler vs Brutus Beefcake
Brutus looked like a rug doll in the hands of Fowler ,he was on surviving mode for the entire first round ,and to be honest, he did well to get to the break...hes corner tried to fire him up but he took toomuch damage in that first round, and as soon as the second started he got droped found the heart to stand back up only to be pinned against the cage and finished off by a barrage of unanswerd knees...the ref had to stop the fight and this was a brutal KO....2nd round KO win for Cam Fowler

145 lbs Asato Mikio vs Juan De La Cruz
Asato used hes boxing and dominated every single round of this fight...he was mixing up hes strikes very well and manage to avoid the clinch...he controled the entire fight seting the pace and imposing hes will...Juan looked like he was on drugs or something ,he did nothing but trying to clinch.109 fail attempts to be precise....fair Decision win for Asato Mikio

265 lbs Geremi Njitap vs Kromog The Terror Of The Island Both fighters looked realy tense on their walk to the cage, and was the same in the fight, you could cut the tension between this two fighters....the first round was closer in my eyes ,then what the judges tought, i think Njitap took the first round and as soon as the second round started he prove me right and run over hes oponent , knocking him down, cuting him and then pound him out....briliant 2nd round win for Geremi Njitap

170 lb Spanky Hamms  vs Stephen Tannock
Spanky is doing a steady progress and hes climbing the ranks at a good pace....he won round one ,showed hes class in round two and cruised trough round three, the only thing that he needs to work on is hes acuracy ...he was hiting nothing but air and gloves ,but hes work rate and well rounded skills won him the fight....good decision win for Spanky Hamms

265 lbs Justin Paul vs Philippe Leclair
Leclair was absolutly mauled in this fight, hes cut was out of a terror movie scene and the doctor had no other option but to stop the fight....The teenager has tremendous potential but he still needs time in the gym learning and avoiding this type of beatings...over time he can pay an heavy price for that....Justin did hes job showed who the man was and bossed procedures all the way to the stopage, he wont get a much easier oponent skill wise ,but for now he will be looking to build on that win....horrific 1st round TKO

145 lbs Charles Parker vs Raul Gutierrez This was the closest fight of the night, and either fighter could have easyly got the nod...the judges tought Parker did the most thoe....as allways the grapler gets favoured in a close fight(im all against this type of decisions),but it is what it is,Parker came in with a clear game plan of trying to submit Raul but he couldnt,in other hand Raul defended well against all attacks but hes acuracy leaves me wondering if he was drunk....another decision win for Charles Parker

265 lbs Huan Tai vs Ernesto Lobos (KO OF THE NIGHT)
Huan Tai has some of the most spectacular kicks in our rooster, hes a true MT warrior and talks on a super fight under K1 rules...for now he keeps carving hes way up in the division and if he can keep improving the way he has been ,it wont be long before hes knocking in the door of the champion....fighting wise he uses very well hes footwork working out distance very well and counter striking with ferousios and pin point acurate kicks,a beauty....exelent 1st round KO for Huan Tai

135 lbs Jimmy Kalfic vs Carson Johnson
This was a very good technical fight, were both fighters keept composed and gave the more educated fans ,some joy....Jimmy dominated the whole fight but could never get Carson in trouble...hes more technical aproach was a bad match up for the more brawling style of Carson...well rounded fighters their performance overshadow their record on this one....Masterpiece Decision win for Jimmy Kalfic

Another day another dollar, the next few reviews will get a bit more detail put into it but for now we need to get our busy schedule going...we will keep you updated on major changes ....for now Me , JJ and the crew wish you all a good easter and even better preparation....
