GAMMA #538 Bateman v Pullo - REVIEW

Global Association of MMA, Fight Organization, London
Company profile by Mentor Guru Corleone

February 6th, 2016 - London, England, U.K. - Wombley Arena

“The Worlds Most Dangerous” Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi (20-12, 7-6 GAMMA) [Legion of Doom] VS. Justin Hunter (14-9, 2-2 GAMMA) [Dab Legends] Lightweight (155)

The main card started out with a relative newcomer, Jack LaBear representative Justin Hunter taking on a man familiar to all GAMMA fans, GSP’s Illegitimate Son’s fighter Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi. Hunter came out looking to play to his own strengths and take al-Baghdadi down to the ground, but his takedowns were constantly stuffed and reversed, and he ate more than his fair share of shots. Hunter did well to survive the round, and came out with a clinch in mind, pinning al-Baghdadi against the cage before taking him down. Unfortunately, al-Baghdadi is no slouch, and he was able to fend off the attempts to control and even go for a submission against the clearly overwhelmed Hunter. In the third Hunter simply did not have the energy to continue his aggression, and the strong standup attack of al-Baghdadi sent Hunter to the floor and gave him the victory. He must have felt good after breaking the two-fight losing streak he came into this one with, whereas Hunter tasted his first defeat in GAMMA.

RESULT: al-Baghdadi def. Hunter via T.K.O. (Strikes) in the 3rd Round (1:23)

Kieron “The Chief” Radebe (24-14, 7-6 GAMMA) [Legion of Doom] VS. Joe Jordan (25-11, 4-2 GAMMA) [GRABTHE.INFO] Super Heavyweight (265+)

Gerbert Bryant’s Radebe came in to this one feeling great, having won his previous three, and Thor HGH’s Joe Jordan had his sights set on breaking that streak. Radebe immediately came out looking to utilize his world-class Muay Thai, grabbing hold of a clinch and trading with Jordan inside. Even though Radebe left the round with blood running down his face, the judges probably saw the round going his way. Since it was so successful in the 1st, Radebe thought to himself “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” and clinched up again with Jordan. Both men showed plus defense, and a close fight stayed close, as neither was truly able to separate himself from the other. In the 3rd and deciding round, both men came out to earn the victory, and swung hard at each other. Jordan was able to keep Radebe at the end of his punches, and a huge uppercut sent Radebe down as he was moving in to clinch. The cut was reopened, and Radebe’s legs were gone. Another right hook landed, and Jordan was face down on the mat. An incredibly impressive victory for Jordan here, as an upset pick prevailed, likely made some lucky betters a nice bit of coin.

RESULT: Jordan def. Radebe via K.O. (Punch) in the 3rd Round (4:14)

Oison “The Deer” O Conghaile (33-24, 4-4 GAMMA) [Renegade Warriors] VS. Jeffrey Sarpong (27-9-2, 1-1-1 GAMMA) [None] Middleweight (185)

A veteran of over 50 MMA fights, Seamus O Connell’s “Deer” was up next, taking on Sarpong, a representative of Brent Sutterr. Sarpong was still seething from tough outcomes against top-tier GAMMA competitor Hektor Troy, but “The Deer” was not about to let himself be ran over. Both men came geared up for war, and both men left the 1st round with blood running down their faces. In the 2nd, Sarpong was able to score some nice takedowns, and looked to be in control as the swinging continued, both men with their eyes on the K.O. of the night award. The cut was worsened early in the 3rd, as an elbow scored against O Conghaile before Sarpong brought him to the floor. O Conghaile was controlled from the bottom, and a confident Sarpong was able to lock him up in a tight triangle, forcing “The Deer” to tap just nine seconds away from the final bell. Sarpong took home Submission of the Night for that lovely triangle choke.

RESULT: Sarpong def. O Conghaile via Submission (Triangle Choke) in the 3rd Round (4:51)

Yorick “The Last Man” Brown (31-17, 12-9 GAMMA) [Legion of Doom] VS. Alexander Emelianenko (18-7, 2-1 GAMMA) [FinnFighters] Light Heavyweight (205)

Matchups make fights, and what a matchup we had here as “The Last Man”, managed by Gale Hawthorne, was up against the exciting prospect Emelianenko, himself managed by Jorma Oltsu. Brown certainly looked to impose his will, establishing the pace by being the aggressor. Unfortunately, Emelianenko was looking for that, and landed some nice counter shots. Brown’s punches landed a little more often in the 2nd, and this fight had all the makings of a wonderfully entertaining combat chess match between a veteran and a prospect. In the 3rd, lightning struck in the form of Emelianenko’s foot slamming in to the side of Brown’s head; a cannon-blast of a kick that would have knocked out Zeus himself. Emelianenko earned himself a shot at the gold, and for both of their efforts, fighting on their feet cleanly without any takedowns or clinches, these combatants were awarded fight of the night honors.

RESULT: Emelianenko def. Brown via T.K.O. (Strikes) in the 3rd Round (0:09)

“American Psycho” Patrick Bateman (c) (36-16, 14-7 GAMMA) [Legion of Doom] VS. Titus Pullo (28-4, 0-2 GAMMA) [Legion of Doom] Heavyweight (265) CHAMPIONSHIP

Legion of Doom alliance-mates came in to this one seeking the title, as Digga Dogman’s Bateman came in after an impressive string of victories dating back to his reclamation of the Heavyweight title against an eager challenger, managed by Whymer von Mastadon. Pullo trained hard for this one, after losing his previous match due to a doctor stoppage. Unfortunately, Bateman has hands of stone, and his punches landed thunderously. Inside of the first minute of the fight, Pullo was bloody and laying down on the mat. He recovered enough to keep the fight going, but his head was gashed so thoroughly that blood would not stop pouring out of the open wound. He took some more punishment and struggled to find his footing, before the doctor called Pullo over and ended the match. Bateman retains his title, and Pullo may be looking to hire a new cut-man for his next bout. Bateman earned K.O. of the night, and will await the next challenger for his fight.

RESULT: Bateman (c) def. Pullo via T.K.O. (Cut) in the 1st Round (2:21)
