Event Preview: UPF 47: Wayne Vs. Hooper

Author:Dale Saw

Jay: (Chuckles) Howdy howdy, I'm Mr. Amazingly amazing and with me is Sir Bores Alot! (chuckles) However, most of you simply know us as Ray and Jay. (Laughs) And after a prolonged vacation, the almost lost but never forgotten Ray and Jay's Excellent MMA Adventures are back! On today's episode we look into an amazing PPV event, UPF 47: Wayne Vs Hooper takes place Saturday at Big Kuhunarena in Hilo, HI. This one I can not wait for. There is only one title fight but it's one that has been anticipated for quite some time now. But I don't want to bore you with useless details, let's get right into the fights, pops you want to start off the first fight?

Ray: Hey everybody this is Ray, good to be back. Before I get started I just wanted to say, it seems like a little vacation time has gone to your head Jay. Mr. Amazingly Amazing huh? More like Amazingly uncouth, smelly, or off-balanced take your pick. But our fans already know that so let's get right down to it. First fight of the evening will be in the featherweight division, as we see "Bizarre" Ian Agatupu face off against Brad "B-Rad" Wilkins.

I would normally put this fight in the "who cares" category. But, since this is the first preview since returning let's take a look. The big question here is, are either of these guys even capable of winning? Agatupu seems to have missed his true calling, I think he is more suited for the food service industries then mixed martial arts. Wilkins has had a rough start to his career but has shown sparks of promise.

So I'll go with "B-Rad" but I don't think he has a finish in him. So I'll say Wilkins by decision. By the way, Agatupu, I just bought myself a Jack in the Box franchise and think you'd make a great addition at the drive up window... "Welcome to Jack's can I take you order please?"

Jay: Wow, that was extremely boring. Anyways, I think you asked the wrong question pops. The question isn't can either fighter win, it's which fighter wants the victory more. Unfortunately for "Bizarre" I just don't think he even wants the victory. I think that, and it's not too often, but pops you might just be right. All Ian really wants is an ultimate cheeseburger. But, even though brad is untested with anyone of any talent at all, he will somehow pull off a first round sub. Not saying that Brad has great skills, just saying that the lack of skills on Bizarre's behalf will be the deciding factor. Brad by first round sub.

Predictions
Ray: Wilkins by decision.
Jay: Wilkins by submission at 3:24 of round 1.

Jay: After that we jump up to welterweight division for the next fight on the undercard, Tane Huia and TJ Kaczmarek. TJ is coming off a loss in his professional debut. Tane is struggling to get back to the winning side of things. His wife divorced him and his head just hasn't been in the game. But he told me earlier this week that he has cleared his head and is ready to push forward. But, TJ, under new management is looking promising in his training camp. This will be a great fight either way, but I'm going with TJ and his new management.
Ray: Huia has shown flashes of brilliance in the past. He has some real talent but the problem is he is very inconsistent. Kaczmarek is really untested, you can't count that loss he had as a teenager. He looks pretty good in the gym, and definitely has the skill set to win. But if Huia brings his "A" game there is not many people in the UPF that can beat him. Now that his personal problems are behind him, I think Huia's is ready to fight to his true potential. I see Huia scoring a first round knockout.

Predictions
Jay: Kaczmarek by decision.
Ray: Huia by KO at 2:11 of round 1.

Ray: Next up we have a rematch between William McDougal and Everaldo "EJ" Junior in the featherweight division. My man McDougal has been on my short list of favorite fighters for many years now.  With 3 victories in his last 4 fights, he's finally living up to the potential that I saw in him years ago.

Junior did manage to pull off a decision victory back in September. But, that was before McDougal hit his stride. I see McDougal scoring his 4th submission victory here, in the second round.

Jay: McDougal has my vote for the most improved fighter in the UPF without a doubt. And once again I agree with you pops. Junior would have this one in the bag had McDougal not found his rhythm. But that just isn't the case, McDougal has shown that he has what it takes to rise through the ranks. I don't see him stopping anytime soon either. Go get 'em Will!

Predictions
Ray: McDougal by submission at 1:09 of round 2.
Jay: McDougal by submission at 3:46 of round 1.

Jay: Ok so we finish off the undercard with a welterweight bout between Monty Jacoby and Jack Stone. Both of these fighters are new to the UPF with one fight and one loss each in the UPF. So both fighters are looking for their first victory within the org. These two look pretty evenly matched across the board. Although, Stone appears to have a stronger clinch game. As an amateur, Stone was undefeated in 25 fights, which he used his impressive clinch to dominate his foes. Now he hasn't had the greatest start to his professional career but that'll all start to change as he starts clinching his opponents and pummeling his way to victory. Stone by TKO in round 2.
Ray: Are you just trying to protect Stone or do you really not know what happened?
Jay: No, I know exactly what's happening here. You're just trying to bore the fans to death so they forget what I said and only have your answer! (Laughs) Wait, what are you talking about?
Ray: I guess you were off taking dabs or something. Well Stone is currently sitting in Hilo city jail for resisting arrest. And, Mr. Saw says he's not going to bail him out until fight night. Him and Jacoby got very drunk and were trading taunts and I guess it got very loud and the police were involved. Stone must have thought he was in the cage or something because he charged them and got a takedown into side control and started ground 'n pound. I hear it took 4 officers to get him off of him. Neither the police nor Mr. Saw were happy about it. Anyway, I would normally say this is Stone's fight to take but I think a week of jail food and no training will take its toll on Stone. Jacoby by decision.

Predictions
Jay: Stone by TKO at 2:13 of round 2.
Ray: Jacoby by decision.

Ray: Now we move onto the maincard. The first fight sees two lightweight fighters pit it out in the cage as Jamal "Bacchus" The Prodigy will go toe to toe with "General Butt Naked" Joshua Blahyi. Jamal is a great fighter and has a bright future ahead of him. He has the potential to be a true MMA legend. But to be honest with you, I don't think he's ready for a fighter like Joshua. Jamal has great takedown defense, but Joshua has perhaps the best takedown offense in the division. Joshua will secure a quick takedown, which will neutralize Jamal's power, and it won't be long before Jamal is screaming in pain and tapping out. Blahyi by submission in round 1.
Jay: Once again I completely agree with you. But, I'm gonna play devil's advocate here. Blahyi does have some excellent takedowns. But, it doesn't matter how good your takedowns are if you get knocked out in the first few seconds of the first round. Jamal has tremendous power in his hands and in his last two victories secured a 5 second KO. Not 5 minutes in, not 5 rounds in, 5 seconds into the fight his opponent was sleeping. All Blahyi will get out of this match up is a nice long nap. Jamal by KO in the first.

Predictions
Ray: Blahyi by submission at 1:24 of round 1.
Jay: The Prodigy by KO at 0:12 of round 1.

Jay: Craig "Bones" Jones and Peter "The Immortal" James are our next bout on the maincard. Featherweight fighters always have so much energy that they bring into the cage, they are usually the highest paced fights. That being said, Craig "Bones" Jones might just be one of the most exciting featherweight fighters in the UPF.

His opponent is making his UPF debut. Rumor has it that over at Apex, which is where James fought before signing to UPF, that James was one of the most exciting fighters on their roster. So either way this should be a very exciting action packed bout. UPF vet vs UPF newcomer. I think that we will see a great debut from the newcomer. But, I have to give it to the vet. UPF represent. Jones by submission in round 2.

Ray: Jones will undoubtedly try to take this one to the mat where he holds a distinct advantage. The standup is pretty evenly matched but James has tremendous power. If Jones does manage to take it to the mat he will only be prolonging his pain. James will hold his own on the ground and score a crowd pleasing KO early in round 2.

Predictions
Jay: Jones by submission at 3:41 of round 2.
Ray: James by KO at 0:17 of round 2.

Ray: Next up we have a match up between two great middleweights, Andrew Ellis Vs. Jacob Aronsson. Aronsson is managed by my good friend Jack LaBear, so I've had a chance to really watch him develop. While he is an impressive fighter, he doesn't have that "go for the throat" mentality, the "eye of the tigar," the "x-factor." Ellis has those qualities and that's why I believe he will cruise to his 7th straight victory easily. Ellis by TKO round 2.
Jay: Ellis does stand a good chance in this one. But the problem is he needs to take this fight to the mat to be effective. Jacob on the other hand, will pummel the face of Ellis with quick and accurate striking. Aronsson has great Mauy Thai and wrestling skills too so we might see some clinching. Aronsson by KO in round 2.

Predictions
Ray: Ellis by TKO at 3:34 of round 2.
Jay: Aronsson by KO at 1:12 of round 2.

Jay: This next fight finishes up the maincard. The UPF's former middleweight champion Opananu Milan looks to get his belt back but first he must go through Jimmy "Swear It On Me Mum" Smesman. With a win here Smesman should be in line for a title shot. But Milan is no push over. If Smesman wants to win he will really have to work for it. The former champ arguably has a better standup game and seems to be capable of holding his own in jiu jitsu. Smesman does have a way stronger wrestling base. Wrestling is incredibly important in MMA. And Milan has great takedown defense, only 14 out of 72 takedown attempts were successful. Even though Smesman has amazing takedowns I'm going with the former champ on this one. Milan by KO in round 1.
Ray: Milan is washed up. A has been that should have retired when he lost the belt. Let's just hope he doesn't embarrass himself too badly.  Smesman by KO in round 2.

Predictions
Jay: Milan by KO at 1:32 of round 1.
Ray: Smesman by KO at 2:30 in round 2.

Ray: Middleweight bouts a plenty, and here is another in the first main event. Islam "Raven" Makhachev goes up against Caliman "Soldier" Matos for a scheduled 3 rounds. Islam, the UPF newcomer, comes into this fight with something to prove. He was the middleweight champion at GAMMA Butt-Stompers in Las Vegas, when the challenger shocked the world by dropping him in the first round. He faces a very tough opponent this week, Matos is a submission artist that has proven that he can tap anyone out. All I can say is I hope Islam remembers his Friday night prayers because the only way he can win this one is with a helping hand from Allah. Matos by submission in round 1.
Jay: You know, I think that Caliman "Soldier" Matos just might be the most over looker fighter in the UPF. He is riding a 4 fight win streak and currently sits on top of the division. I wouldn't be surprised if a win here got him a title shot. Now Islam is a awesome striker and has great power, if he can land some clean shots then it might just be lights out for Matos. But, Matos has stepped into the cage with strikers before and laid them to rest with a quick and efficient submission. Fun fact for ya, Matos is actually tied for 4th with the most submission victories in the UPF. And after this fight, he will be tied with Rana for 3rd most subs in the UPF. Matos by submission in round 1.

Predictions
Ray: Matos by submission at 4:39 of round 1.
Jay: Matos by submission at 2:13 of round 1.

Jay: Wow those were all some amazing fights but none can equal the amount of hype that the main event brings to the table. A welterweight title fight where Troy "Super" Hooper tries to dethrone the champion Bruce "Batman" Wayne... That's right you heard correctly it's Batman Vs. Super(man) in an epic battle for the UPF welterweight championship. Let's take a look at the challenger first, he's 10-5 and currently riding a 5 fight win streak. Just over half of his wins were finishes by TKO, the others were decisions. He shows good power and stamina. The champion is 13-1 with a 2 fight win streak going. Wayne has shown great power as well. This one comes down to, who wants it more and who is willing to put in the effort to overcome their opponent. Hooper is an awesome fighter, but Batman is the champion for a reason. And I don't see anyone taking his belt anytime soon. Then again I said that right before AJ took his belt, of course he got it back. My favorite fighter by KO in round 1.
Ray: Boy, I don't know if I even want to make a pick here. I have a terrible record picking Wayne's fights, every time I go against him he wins, the one time I picked him to lose he won. Hell, maybe I'm his good luck charm. I'll pick Hooper by KO in round 1.

Predictions
Jay: Wayne by KO at 2:31 of round 1.
Ray: Hooper by KO at 4:59 of round 1.
