 Island Combat 2 Preview

The second event of the Island Combat organization, is sure to be another great show! It features twelve total fights, and two of those, are for titles.

The opening fight, is between Darko “Dark Side Cruz”, and Pipis “Teabag” Skatis. This fight is in the bantamweight division. Darko Cruz likes to go in with a lot of takedowns and get his opponent on the ground as quickly as possible. Darko also has outstanding takedown defense. But he seems to have trouble, if his opponent has a great standup game. Pipis on the other hand, has difficulty landing strikes in stand up, but seems to have at least decent striking defense. But he has shown, to catch his opponents off guard, so he should not be underestimated. In my opinion, the favorite is Darko Cruz, since he has stellar ground game, but he has to be wary when doing takedowns, so he does not get knocked out.

The second fight is in the featherweight division. It is featuring, Marius “The Roman” Gladius, and Patrick Krupok. Marius comes in with only one loss in his career, out of his five fights. He has known to shoot for takedowns early in the fight. But if he can do this, he can control his opponent down there, and is very slippery. His only loss came from, Martin Luther King Jr, by kumara submission. On the other side of the cage, Patrick has a lot of knockout power. All of his wins have been by knockout in the first round. His last lost came from submission, and it seems he has a bad ground game. In my opinion, it’s a 50-50 match, both fighters have a chance of winning here.

The third fight is in the middleweight division. It features Jessi “Mast Magan” Inder, and Leonardo Leite. Jessi comes in with a 2-0, winning streak. On both of these wins, Jessi has gone the distance for almost both, so he seems to have great cardio. He also has known, to escape after getting taken down by takedowns, and flip it around on his opponent. Leonardo on the other hand, has not seen much time outside of the first round, with all his fights staying in the first round. So I am not sure, how he will do if the fight time goes longer. He also has strong wrestling and decent takedowns. In my opinion, the favorite is Jessi, unless Leonardo can pull out a first round win.

The fourth fight is in the lightweight division. It features Jesse “The Karate Nerd” Enkamp, and Dave Tran. Jesse has amazing muay thai training, and background. Enkamp, tends to use all sorts of well precise kicks, to the leg, body, to slow down his opponent. He is known to knockout opponents, with his head kick. He also has above decent striking defense. He prefers striking distance, and has lost his fight with Peter Potter, due to Potter’s clinchwork. On the other side of the cage, Dave looks for a takedown whenever he can get them, and takes it to the ground. If you let Dave, stay in the ground for too long, u will be tapping for sure. But if that fails, his impressive ground, and pound can finish you as well. In my opinion, the clear advantage here is Dave, if he can take it to the ground, and work his game. But if it stays standing it will be Jesse’s win.

The fifth fight is in the lightweight division. It features Jake “The Snake” Blake, and Anthony “Cerebral” Graham. Jake has a three win streak, all by submission. His only loss came from, a fighter that had superior BJJ. Jake, prefers to first go to clinch, gain control from here, and then take you to the ground. From here he goes into his submission work. Anthony before his last three losses, he was on a 5 fight win streak. But a three losing streak, took a lot out of his morale for sure. Also, he either has a great day, or a lousy day. But he is lethal, in both the standing, and ground day, when he is in a great day. In my opinion, Jake has the advantage since he only loss due to superior ground game, but Graham does not seem to have that. I could be wrong of course.

The sixth fight is in the Light Heavyweight division. It features Joseph “The Butcher” Venables and Andy Fitzgerald. Joseph comes into the fight preferring the fight to keep at striking distance, and standing. He is also known, to go into longer fights, so he has the cardio. But it’s ironic that he likes the standup game, when he primarily loses to standup fighters. On the other hand Andy has knockout power for days. He also has decent grappling defense and can reverse his opponents if needed. He also does not give you an easy time on the ground as well, with strikes. In my opinion, the favorite is Andy, since he has a stronger oomph behind his blows.

The seventh fight is in the Heavyweight division. It features Michael “The Inquisitor” Campion and Heath “The Texas Crazy Horse” Herring. Starting off Michael goes for early second takedowns if possible, and tries his ground game. His only loss, ending his four win streak, came from a better ground artist them him. He can end a fight quick on the ground, which is a great plus. Heath on the other hand, looks like he can hold his own on the ground, and on the standup game. His biggest weakness is his clinch defense, so if he can eat some dirty boxing, it could stop him in his tracks. Another weakness is he gets sloppy on his strikes, which can aid to somebody’s counter takedowns. The advantage is Heath, if he can score his takedowns, and he is trained better in the ground game, it could be his fight to win.

The eighth fight is in the Heavyweight division. It features Theodore “Tingling” Thundercunt, and Ohto Alanko. First Theodore has tremendous power, and will knockout someone out, if given the chance too. Theodore also uses the clinch to tire an opponent, and then tries to finish it, when broken at striking distance. But he also has problems with fighters who have superior clinchwork, or effective clinch defense. On the other side of the cage, Ohto also has disgusting stopping power as well. He also likes to use the clinch versus his opponents. My opinion on this favorite is none. The fighters, both like are each other’s clones. Just expect a brutal set of punches, and a quick ending. The winner, will be the one that can hit, when the clinch is broken.

The ninth fight is a title bout for the Heavyweight title. It features the challenger Zui Quan “Drunken Fist” Tso, and Illmari Kuusi. Zui come into this fight, with five career KO victories. This Chinese native goes into the clinch, and targets the body, to soften up his opponent. Then he finishes it with uppercuts and strikes to the face. Zui also vitalizes the cage, and makes it his ally. His greatest weakness is he rarely adapts to the fight, if u can break his clinch by either takedown or serious strikes, u can win the fight. On the other side of the cage, Illmari rather stick to his game, the ground. He likes to get as much takedowns as possible, then tries to control his opponent on the ground. But if his opponent can manage to get to full guard and either free himself or try for a submission that would be key. In my opinion, the favorite is Zui if he can land a brutal strike during a takedown attempt, he can end it, or least cause serious damage.

The main event for this card, is a welterweight title bout. It features current champion Jake “The Talent” Belcher, and challenger Tapio Sammalkorpi. These two have already fought, with Tapio being victorious their first fight. Tapio only won that fight, by continuing to land takedowns, causing him more points, so when it came down to an decision, he had more points. Jake comes in with excellent BJJ defense, which landed him the win in his last fight. His ground, and pound, is also a huge strength especially versus Tapio. Tapio on the other hand, tries to always take the fight to the ground. If he can get a good enough hold onto his opponent, he can make any man tap. But versing Jake, who is a slippery man. My opinion on the favorite has to be Jake, if he continues to stuff out Tapio’s takedowns, and defend vigorously on the ground.

This card for Island Combat 2 is sure to be amazing! Jay Tycoon sure knows how to book an event!
