Jay's Tycoon Tips

Editorial by Jay Lawrence

This week's tip is about running an organization.

First of all, if you don't have a significant amount of cash stored up or a financial backer, don't try starting a fighting organization.  If you do have a lot of money, but you haven't been playing the game very long, don't start a fighting organization.  If you don't like writing, don't like talking to people, don't like sometimes kissing ass and sometimes having to be firm; don't start a fighting organization.  Do you see a theme here? I'm not saying don't start a fighting organization...well I am, and I said it three or four times now, but that's not the intent of the message here.  The true intent is you MUST be ready before trying to go at becoming the owner of a fighting organization.

There's a few things about the initial startup.  You need finances, you need a writer, and you need someone who can do posters/graphics.  Without these fundamentals you'll never be more than a mediocre fighting org.  After that you will need to get recruiting.  Recruiting is cutthroat and aggressive here in MMATycoon as some new creation fighters are already getting significant contracts.  If you want to get these fighters into your org, I suggest opening the coffers a little because it's going to cost money for awhile.  As for contract rates, check out what other orgs are doing.  Contract rates vary significantly and if you really want to do well, try contacting the manager and asking him what kind of contract he wants for his fighter.

Don't try rushing into things with a bunch of events right away. If you have any more than 1 event per week you will get significantly less profit.  Additionally, you will need to know what to set your production and advertising rates at for each event.  To do that we use this site - http://widing.arkku.net/tycoontools/eventhelper.php.  That will also show you what order to place your fights in (highest hype in fight 1, lowest in fight 10). There is a lot of good information on that site that will also help you with your org.

Choosing your weight classes.  It is best to start with just a couple weight classes.  Get the feel for the org and setting up events, then try expanding your weight classes.  The more classes you have the more difficult it will get to keep track and if you don't have enough fighters in a weight class, you will not be able to offer fair fights.

Consider starting with an ID restricted org.  This gives the most fair of fights and might be a reason managers choose your new org over a more hyped org.  You won't be able to sign as good of fighters, but your org will be able to grow with the fighters you recruit and you will be able to make it your own over time.  If I were starting an org today I would create a 300k+ org. Not only because we just hit 300k, but also because The Island just started.  In 6 months from now there will be some very hyped fighters leaving the island looking for a home and you will want to be that home.

The best advice I could give to any aspiring fighting org entrepeneur is this - serve the managers; listen to the managers.  Create your org around the manager's needs and wants.  If you earn the trust and loyalty of managers in this game you will be successful.  If you are the type of person that tries to push around your managers, you will fail.

If you are not sure about whether you want to start an org, don't do it.  We have plenty.  But if you really want to do it, do your homework first!  Nothing is worse than having a fighter join a trash org.

As always if you have any questions or a request for the next edition, PM me!
