Hello fight fans, Jack Russell here. Formerly of MMA Fanzone but we had to shut down whilst my former colleague Johnson Schmidt awaits trial.
I am here today interviewing top fighter, Ferdinand Cortes. He is almost unheralded since going on an 11 fight winning streak which has led him to capturing the EVO title and defending it a record tying 5 times.
JR: So Ferdinand, your next fight is against Sean Tallon. A man whom you have a bitter rivalry with. Tell us about your mindset heading into this fight.
Ferdinand Cortes: I wouldn’t say it’s a bitter rivalry. We used to train together until he turned his back on us and our team. He then fought a dude with not much experience and much younger in Geralt. Now he will have to fight someone who hits hard and won’t fall into his gameplans. I’m going in there to humiliate him but with a clear head.
JR: This is one of the more highly anticipated match ups in recent memory, both of you are at the top of the game in the top 10 p4p and a win here could elevate you to #1. Is that adding any extra pressure?
FC: No, not at all. For so long I was not fighting, I was working 2 jobs a day after I was let go by my manager. Everyone had forgot about me. When Wolf started to fight me again I was happy for the first time in a long time. Just holding the title in one of the most prestigious organisations in the world is enough to me, anything other than that is an added bonus.
JR: What’s been the secret of your success? Have you found more confidence or is your manager giving you the right gameplans?
FC: A bit of both, but I think it’s more I have my own style now. I don’t specifically plan for an opponent, I just do what I do and no one has been able to stop it. I doubt Tallon will be able to either.
JR: If you win this fight, you will become the longest reigning EVO Featherweight title holder in terms of most defences. We haven’t seen this level of dominance since Oompa Loompa held the belt.
FC: That is nice to know, but like I said. It’s an added bonus. I was picked up by Wolf to help out his young guys technique. I didn’t think I would be fighting on the big stages at any time, so yea it’s a nice bonus.
JR: Ok Ferdinand, that’s all we have time for. Thank you and best of luck in your next fight!
God, he really is a boring bastard isn’t he.
