OFC 240: Ravager preview (from Cause McDubree)

Event Preview: OFC 240: Ravager
OFC: Ontario Fight Club
2016-12-10, Montreal, Hayashi's Lounge - Montreal
Author:Cause McDubree

I hear Thin Lizzy banging out The boys are back in town, as Ontario Fight Club brings you Ravager;  hot on the heels of our triumphant return event, Reborn.  Jumping two spots up Montreal’s org list on Highstreet as a result of that winner, we now set our sights on the bigger fish in La Belle Province with our policy of over-priced tickets for under-hyped fighters.  Truth is, King Justus’ bank account is taking one for the team, which is good news for the team.

Aiding and abetting our perpetual motion machine tonight are a collection of talents young and old looking to make a name for themselves in some wide open divisions where no one’s yet staked their claim to fame.   It’s a unique opportunity for any serious combatants who’ve been wallowing in obscurity, as this org is guaranteed to continue rising along with your fighter.  So there will be no need to look elsewhere for competitive match ups that keep your guy climbing the charts like the latest mumbling musings from Drake.  I’m excited to see who emerges from these initial rounds of eliminators, a couple impressive wins in a row is all it will take to get most of these guys into Title shot contention.

185 lbs (+125) Cu  Chulainn (12-9) vs (-167) Rupert “Popeye”  Blasts (10-2-1)

Gotta like Blasts on first glance but it’s not my job to promote the obvious;  rather, take a peek behind the cupboards and closets to flesh out some the grey areas that often make the difference between victory or defeat.  In this instance, it screams Quality of Competition, with Chulainn being thrown to the wolves out of the gate and managing to come out of it bloodied but unbowed.  On the flipside,  Blasts career started with 6 straight T/KO victories on the Quick Fight circuit followed by a nice run in Legacy before he hit the upper echelon and his cushy path met with reality;  Rupe is good, but not yet great.   However, good will likely do in this match up as long as his takedown defense is great or he’s been secretly training submissions with Damian Maia because the Irish bruiser is all about dictating where the fight takes place and in this instance, it’ll be all canvas, all the time.  Should he be unable to do that and Popeye starts lighting him up with cans of spinach, I’ll be out the 5k I’m dropping on Cu.

185 lbs (-160) Jesse “THE SNAKE” Blake vs (+120) Roque Four (24-21)

Winner here will be on track to take on the victor in our Main Event with a chance to make some loud noise in this Champless division.   Big disparity in age goes to Blake while the experience side of the ledger is owned by Four, who at 44, must be worn down physically after so many years in the game.  This die-hard has been on a submission mission his entire career, racking up an impressive 21 of them in the course of his win 3/lose 3 career.  Blake, on the other hand, looks to be a potential riser in town, having been previously owned by a manager I have a lot of respect for, making me confident in saying he’s been trained the right way.  So he may be listed at the bigger price but with fewer miles on the treads, well rounded game and significant reach advantage, the smarter money’s going on THE SNAKE.  And if that wasn’t enuff encouragement to plunk down a thousand, you know he must be super snakey to require all caps.

265 lbs (-203) Cannondale Trail (19-11-1) vs (+150) “Big” Duncan McAlister (44-34-3)

Get the ditto card for this one, except McAlister looks a lot more worn down than Roque Four while the Chuck Norrisesque, Mr. Trail looks like a hotter prospect than THE SNAKE.  Since falling under new management, the fiery Trail has won three straight via T/KO and I see no way on earth that the undernourished and uncared for McAlister avoids becoming victim number four.  Odds are steep by Official Bets standards but for good reason- this guy can’t lose… I think.

Everyone else fighting on the card needs to get over there to see how the boss rates your chances of success tonight and be sure and get down some wagers to get some winnings:

We’re only 4 days away from the return of OFC prodigal son, Ali Seyedi, who left with the LHW strap ages ago and brings it back to face the hard hitting Greg Coleman so we’ll have to shift gears to that one soon so it doesn’t turn into another last minute special- take care ‘til then and don’t forget to change your fighter’s clothes!
