OMEGA FIGHTING - 2017 EVE of DESTRUCTION PREVIEW

With a new year now in sight, Omega Fighting and its merchandise partner Urban Fighter are looking to end a great year with a bang! Since its inception Omega Fighting has provided a stable home for some of the best young fighters in the world. Thanks to those talented young warriors, Omega Fighting continues to grow and is now one of the most exciting fighting companies on the rise. To celebrate this fact and give something back to the people who helped make Omega Fighting so great, the Omega Cup was launched and is now in full effect. History is in the making as the JR superstar challenges the current champion and knockout artist Zeph Frazier. A fallen champion from another organization looks to get his career back on track as he makes his promotional debut. And as if that wasn’t enough the number one contendership for the light heavyweight title may also be on the line as the former champion faces the penguin of doom.

Main event:

205 lbs - Zeph Frazier (8-1) Vs  Ja Wuan Robinson (10-3)

The light heavyweight division is currently being ruled by the iron fist of Zeph Frazier but looking to overthrow the current regime is the JR superstar, Ja Wuan Robinson. In a world of darkness, will the light that shines brightest, shine brighter than ever before or will the darkness swallow even the brightest light? Will the sun come up again in the light heavyweight division if the challenger emerges victorious or will the division be descended further into chaos if the champion snuffs out the lights of the challenger and extends his dictatorial rule?

Despite losing his promotional debut Zeph Frazier has quickly climbed to the top of Omega’s light heavyweight division. Since coming to Omega Fighting Zeph Frasier has been scratching off names of the who’s who list of the division, next name on the list is Ja Wuan Robinson. Frazier is known as a knockout artist, boxing is his forte and most of his fights have ended by KO or TKO. Last month, Frazier managed to successfully defend his belt for the second time. The durable Aaron Alvarez wanted no part in standing toe to toe with the knockout artist and instead decided to test his clinch game. This turned out to be a big mistake as it’s not how many punches you throw but how many of them you land that’s important. Frazier floated like a kite and stung like a Boeing 747, ending a dominating performance with an impressive finish.

After making a successful promotional debut Ja Wuan is now catapulted in the main event spot to prove to himself and to the fans that he belongs at the top of the division. Ja Wuan is no stranger to title fights as he once won a title in a former organization. One night in St Petersburg he beat the Russian champion by demolishing him in the clinch. After winning that title his career took a little detour but he has since managed to climb back up the ladder. He came back with a vengeance as he is currently riding an impressive three fight winning streak. Skill wise, the JR superstar and the champion are two peas in a pod as they are both known for their dangerous hands but both have also displayed a solid clinch game in past fights. The collision of these two powerful rhinos will probably be a barnburner. However, should either of them want to shake things up a little bit to take their opponent by surprise we might see some elite clinch warfare.

Co-main event:

185 lbs - Gunji Koizumi (11-5) Vs Hassan Dehu (5-3)

This is a match with some serious title implications for the winner as the former Generation middleweight champion makes his promotional debut against a rising star who wishes to continue his winning streak and move up to the upper echelons of the middleweight division.

Gunji Koizumi might not be known to many Omega fans as he is set to make his promotional debut but to the fans of the former Generation organization in London his name might sound familiar. Though he has since fallen from grace, this talented grappler once was a feared champion. He dominated his division for quite a while with his slick submissions. This dangerous submission artist will be looking for redemption though as he is currently on a two fight losing streak. His glory days at Generation might be over but he’s ready to pick himself up, dust himself off and show the world that he still belongs at the top of the middleweight division. Though a loss might be devastating, an impressive win combined with his previous accomplishments should be enough to earn this world class grappler a title opportunity.

Hassan "The Assasian" Dehu might not have the most impressive record but he is currently riding a two fight winning streak. To break through to the elite of the division he is still in need of a career-making performance. A win over such a big name as Koizumi should do the trick. A brawler by trade, Hassan has been flying under the radar and may not have impressed in his last two fight but he still did enough to earn the victory. Now he has set his sights higher, if he can keep this fight standing and return to his boxing roots this might end up being a game changer for the Assasian. It’s put up or shut up as a win can send him into title contention while a loss will send him back to the undercard.

205 lbs - Boo Lee (11-3) Vs Oswald Cobblepot (3-0)

While the light heavyweight title is on the line in the main event, the winner of this fight will quite possibly be the new number one contender for that very same belt. Will the undefeated prospect be able to pull off the upset against the former champion or will the veteran use his experience to completely shut down the greenhorn?

New York native Boo Lee will have the hometown advantage, the experience advantage and even a slight weight advantage. There is no denying that Boo Lee is the favorite to win this fight. The former champion is a cardio machine and a brawler with heavy hands. After losing his title to the current champion Zeph Frazier, Boo Lee came back strong by winning his next two fights. After making quick work of Viktor Grishin, he simply outworked James Steel to put himself back into title contention. Winning this fight will be the exclamation point he needs to solidify himself as the new number one contender.

Standing in the way of Boo Lee’s second shot at the title is the penguin of doom - Oswald Cobblepot - who might share the same title aspirations. Don’t blink when this guy fights, the undefeated penguin has managed to finish every opponent he’s faced so far in the very first round. This guy throws punches in bunches and doesn’t stop until the fat lady sings. Will the penguin put his pedal to the metal and go full throttle right from the start or will he be more conservative now that he’s facing a much stronger opponent than he’s ever faced before? This is will be the biggest test of his career and the ultimate proving ground for the undefeated penguin.

145 lbs - Balbus Michael (8-5) Vs Ching Ching (7-5)

While featherweight champion Ahsan Hamed was unsuccessful in his attempt to become a two division champion, taking the super fight gave the other featherweights some time to bring some stability into the chaos of the division. Unfortunately the division is light in more ways than one as the division is quite limited and thus bringing in fresh blood was necessary. Looking to add some diversity to the mix are these two new signees.

Making his promotional debut, Balbus Michael has experience fighting at a high level. The man also known as the bully has fought in title fights in multiple organizations. This valiant traveler doesn’t back down from a challenge and he’s more than able to put his well rounded skills to the test. While his preference definitely goes to the standup, in the past he has shown a willingness to take the fight to the ground when the time is right.

Set to face him is the drifting prizefighter known as Ching Ching. His name makes it clear that he’s all about the money. Just like his opponent he is a well rounded traveler, going from one organization to another. He is like a rolling stone, wherever he steps in the cage is his home and when he is victorious all he’ll leave is his opponents tombstone. While his opponent loves to stand and trade, Ching loves to drag his opponents to the ground but he is more than skilled enough to fend for himself no matter where the fight takes place. The pressure will be on Ching Ching as he is looking to snap a two fight losing streak.

205 lbs - Sergey Beznisko (7-4) Vs Aaron Alvarez (4-4)

Russian ground and pound specialist Sergey Beznisko is no stranger to the men facing each other in the main event. He fought both of them and while he may not have walked away unscathed, he definitely gained some respect for staying in there until the end. Merely surviving wars with the elite of the division is not enough though, to get back into the mix he’ll need to get back to his roots and pull off a victory.

New York native Aaron Alvarez had his two fight winning streak snapped when he unsuccessfully challenged the champion, Zeph Frazier. He had an interesting strategy to stay clear of the champions punches and grind out a victory in the clinch. Unfortunately things didn’t go as planned as the champion more than held his own in the clinch and ultimately finished Alvarez in the fifth and final round. Like a lot of young mixed martial artists nowadays, Alvarez is a jack of all trades, he can defend himself no matter where the fight takes place and can change his game plan to suit his opponent.

185 lbs - Adriano Seppi (10-6) Vs Kenji Sato (4-5)

Billed from Spain, Adriano Seppi is a striker who's mostly known for grinding out his opponents in the clinch before finishing them off. He made his name in Rio De Janeiro’s Monkey Business Fighting before moving to London’s Highland Games. Fresh off a victory against a dangerous submission specialist that snapped a four fight losing streak, Adriano will want to keep the momentum going when he faces his next opponent.

And that opponent is none other than Tokyo’s Kenji Sato. On the other end of the spectrum, Kenji Sato is still looking to redeem himself. A though three round war with James Bean ended in a split decision victory for mister Bean. Thus Kenji will have to look deep inside himself to find his Japanese warrior spirit and keep his career alive. Kenji is a brawler with a good clinch game and he will need to put that to use if Adriano Seppi gets his hands on him.

170 lbs - Bosco Iwoba (7-1) Vs Monk Eastman (3-2)

From Bata, Equatorial Guinea, Bosco Iwoba is a former kick boxer and an exciting prodigy to watch in the welterweight division. He ran into a bit of a speed bump when he faced the newly crowned welterweight champion Russell Northrop. But now his career is back on track and to get his career on the fast track he’ll not only be looking to win but to make it look easy as well. Standing in his way is the well-rounded Monk Eastman who is currently riding an impressive three fight winning streak. Will the British Eastman be able to rise up to the challenge when he faces the biggest obstacle he’s ever faced or will the specialist prevail against the durable Eastman?

185 lbs - Troy Anselmo (3-0-1) Vs James Bean (3-3)

Set to make his promotional debut is the twenty-two year old Troy "The Anvil" Anselmo. Troy is an undefeated prospect, his only setback being a controversial draw. This boxer will be looking to drop the anvil on Bean’s head and skyrocket himself to the top of the division. James Bean ran into some trouble when his manager decided to part ways with him, now under new management he’ll be looking to extend his current two fight winning streak. Should Bean be able to defeat the currently undefeated Anselmo, he could be poised for an even bigger foe as that would certainly elevate his stock in the division higher than it’s ever been before.

170 lbs - Scott Mallox (7-8) Vs Klay Montez (10-11)

Scott Mallox may think himself too legit to quit but losing six of your last seven fights is not a good position to be in. The man also known as the bulldog loves to bulrush his opponents and put them against the cage before finishing the fight. Also feeling the pressure to win is his opponent, Klay Montez. This talented grappler grew up on the streets of Havana in Cuba. Both these guys will be desperate to win as another loss could irreparably put a stop to their fighting career. Two men will enter the cage but only one can walk away victorious.

185 lbs - Grigor Vladovich (3-3) Vs Jorge Santos (0-2)

In a classic striker Vs grappler match-up the Tbilisi Stalker will take on Jorge "The Drunk" Santos. Georgian Grigor Vladovich is a brawler so he would like nothing more than to stand and trade. The drunk on the other hand will do everything in his power to get this fight down to the ground. While Grigor has won in past fights, the same cannot be said about Santos. The drunk will need to sober up and start paying attention if he still wants to be somebody or go somewhere.

Who will close out the year as light heavyweight champion? Will the Omega Cup play a part in the rest of the card? All this and more as the drama unfolds at Omega’s end of the year event, 2017 Eve of Destruction.
