Returning To MMA Tycoon - Part 2

About Me: Chris Dewing

First of all thank you very much to everyone that sent me a message welcoming me back to the game, and also to the Tycoon Times guys for publishing my ramblings. The responses I got all encouraged me to continue writing about what I'm going through in my "re-birth", so that's why there's this follow up article!

The first problem I had when I decided to come back was the complete disaster zone that my fighters had become. Every single one of them had stopped training and left their gyms, and of course that mean that their stats had suffered significantly. I went through the process of signing them all up to new gyms and planning their training schedules, however my stupidity caused me to put my best fighter in a gym that hadn't been maintained for three months. It took me two days to work that out. After that it was the painful process of restocking every fighters' clothing and nutrition supplies, something that may have caused me to quit there and then if the "save all" button wasn't there.

The way I used to train my fighters was very specific, they would all work on building up one area of their game by sparring and training mainly in one field. I don't have that luxury any more, the majority of my fighters are now aged 28+ and aren't going to learn much new now, all I am hoping they can do is get close to where they were before, anything else is a bonus. I'm guessing that their age is almost certainly the reason behind the lack of pops I've been getting, just 1 in the first three days to be exact.

I made the decision to start building up a new roster of fighters and replacing some of the old guys, the first one to go being CJ Dewing. This was the very first fighter I created and obviously was named after myself, he also won my very first fight and got my very first title shot (which he lost). It was a hard decision to release him, in fact I would have retired him if I had known about that option beforehand, but it's a new start and I need to have new fighters to do that. I tried to bring in some free agents to give me a chance to get some ready made fighters, but my manager hype has dropped to ridiculously low levels so I'm not expecting to win any of them.

The first new fighter I created was a guy called Edgar van der Houst, a combination of Edgar van der Hoogenband from the WMMA series and a deliberate mis-spelling of Ernesto Hoost. I didn't look into any new developments of building fighters and just went with what I knew, I built a Sprawl and Brawl type with strong Boxing and Wrestling, as well as giving him the 3 characteristics I always use; Granite Chin, KO Power, Fast Learner. I have no idea if those are the best ones to use, but that's what I've always gone for. I've bought him some stamina nutrition and started work on his conditioning, that was my practice before so again I've stuck to what I know. He's popped twice since he started his training which is an encouraging start at least.

I created a second fighter called Tyler Hawk shortly afterwards in an attempt to use one of the new elements to the game that has come in during my departure, QFC Tournaments. He's going to be in the Featherweight tournament that starts very soon, but I don't like his chances much, I made him as an 18 year old and I'm certain there will be 22-25 year old fighters with much higher stats involved. He was built almost identical to van der Houst although with a few minor changes to his physical stats. I'm looking forward to seeing what the tournaments are like, and I think it's a really neat addition to the QFC process which was always very one-dimensional.

The most interesting thing I've found is that not one of my established fighters has been offered a contract since I returned. They were all released from their previous employers (and I should take this opportunity to apologise to the org owners that were let down when I decided to leave the game) and from then my absence would have been noted on the fighter hiring screens. However I can only assume that they would have been available to hire after that, only I didn't receive a contract offer. As a result I've decided to keep them back from orgs and use them all when I create my new fight org, at least that way I'll have 8-10 fighters from the start and can build the remainder of the org around them, then once I have more established fighters on the roster they can be used as glorified jobbers.

Before I end this I need to publicly thank the people who donated money to my manager account after reading the first article. It was an act of enormous generosity that will go a long way to helping me build my new fighters as well as buy new clothing and nutrition for all of my old ones. I won't name them in case people start hassling them for money, but it just goes to show that maybe the internet is not the battleground of nasty Tweeting and Facebook stalking that the news channels would have you believe. I'll be posting another update soon when things have developed enough to warrant one! Thanks for reading.
