Island Wars
Gjalund Saltsage vs Larry Taft
Taft seemed to assure his own doom when he decided to not once, but twice clinched up with Saltsage. The clinch was all Saltsage, as he battered Taft into oblivion. A simple Super Heavyweight opener that won’t affect the landscape of MMA.
James Tucker vs Barbados Slim
Man I thought Taft had it bad. Tucker beat the Crap out of Slim for 2 rounds and strangely enough, it was all Slim’s fault. Tucker clinched first, but Slim clinched in the second round, sealing his fate.
Jay Uzo vs Generic Everyone
One sided beatdowns have been a theme of the night so far, this time they mostly stayed out of the clinch and Uzo boxed like a Light-Heavyweight Mayweather. Everyone landed a takedown, but that was the extent of his offense. He also landed one punch. Yay. Uzo is now 4-0 and Everyone goes to the back of the line.
Palomar Boku vs Jitsu Crusher
Not a lot to talk about here. Jitsu Crusher lived up to his nickname and took Boku down and twisted his arm until he was forced to submit. Yeah. Next match.
Ibra Zlatonovic vs Martin Holm
Dang! Holm’s knockout wasn’t stylish, but it was effective. More clinch mistakes were made, this time it was Zlatonovic who decided that hugging his opponent would be good tactic. It blew up in his face like a faulty toaster. Neither look like they’ll be world beaters, but I’m sure Holm is happy to have won.
Desmond Fairbanks vs Zhuy Hong
Now we get to a lighter weight class. It was a simple encounter that went the distance and was won by Fairbanks by a slight margin. Interesting way to start the second half of the show, and Fairbanks now sits at 6-2 with 3 decisions, 2 knockouts and a single submission.
Harold Harambe vs Konstantin Zuev
Many went into this fight expecting a dominating victory from Harambe, but Zuev came out and decided “screw it, I’m not a stepping stone.” He sniped Harambe’s head (I had no intention of making a joke when I was writing that, it just happened) with his punches and while Harold had his moments in the clinch but was ultimately swept on the score cards.
Rod Stiffington Jr vs Malig Hunt
Bantamweight Championship Fight
Stiffington Jr is everything his father was and better. He’s sexier, hornier and most importantly, better at fighting. This was his 4th championship defense, and he seems to have a great chance at ending the Island as the Grand Champion. Hunt did well on the feet, but the moment this went to the ground, Stiffington beat his until the ref was forced to stop the contest in the 3rd round.
Do Hoo Jung vs Khasanbi Khaliev
Welterweight Championship Fight
Jung is one bad dude and he showed it against Khaliev. He took him down, avoided all of his desperate submission attempts, and choked out the Russian with just ten seconds left on the clock. Not a bad day in the office if I do say so myself.
Nam Ho vs Joe Rokocoko
Interestingly, this fight also seemed to be decided in the clinch, though this was more subtle. This was very close when Ho and Joe stood toe to toe, but when Rokocoko clinched three times, Ho seemed to get the better of the exchanges. Ho also landed twice as many shots to the body, so that also slightly helped. All things considered, this was a pretty good contest.
