The eyes of the MMA world will soon be falling on Sydney as Kevin “Big Poppa” Maxwell takes on Paul “Big Ball” Castilano in a grudge match headlining RapidFC 6 on December 13. With the 265lbs belt on the line, there’s not much else to look out for as the entire card only contains two fights, with a 185lbs three-round fluff-off between no-names Shane Tull and Kangaroo Jack taking place before the main event.
The bout between Maxwell and Castilano is sure to be a spicy one, as upcoming superstar Maxwell has been extremely active on Buzz, handing out Ls left and right in the trash talking stakes. It was only a matter of time before a challenger appeared hoping to “shut up” the brash 20-year-old from Melbourne.
While this fight is billed as a 5 rounds x 5 minutes championship match, few believe it will go the distance. While the 25-year-old New Yorker Castilano has ended his last two fights by way of strikes (a poor method of victory that only shows your opponent was a coward who couldn’t stick it out long enough to get properly knocked out, in this writer’s opinion), Maxwell’s last fight ended in an astonishing nine seconds.
Indeed, the tale of the tape in that fight tells a story of its own: Maxwell’s opponent, the ironically-named “I Am Unbeatable”, boasts a good chin – not too shabby, but not enough to counter the heavy handed Australian, who finished the beaten Unbeatable with a sweet jab-cross-uppercut combination.
To end our preview, we look to our resident MMA expert, the gangsterweight GOAT, Ilo Danilo:
“You have to look at the numbers. Kevin needed nine seconds to end his fight. We don’t know his cardio game. Is it strong? Is it weak? Does it matter when you can put people to sleep like he can? What about Paul? He’s going to try to gas young Maxwell for sure. Kevin has twenty pounds on him. That extra power’s going to take some gas out of his tank comparatively. Kevin’s a white belt in hugging and rolling. Paul got a blue belt. How much more Paul has one big ball, Kevin’s got two swingers down there. Wrecking balls, even. I’ve got ten bucks with Jose Canesco on Kevin ending the fight standing over Paul’s lifeless corpse and teabagging him.”
