3 Reasons To Become A UFC Fan

Editorial by Mike Tycoon

UFC is a relatively recent creation. It was founded in 1993, which is now 26(!) years ago. While that means there are fans who have been following for over two decades, there is still no long-running UFC tradition. Unlike football, where your father, father’s father, and father’s father’s mother, were all fans.

If you aren’t yet a UFC fan, you might be wondering why you should bother. Getting involved in a new sport can be exhilarating, but it takes emotional investment. Those who aren’t in the US may even have to use a VPN to watch UFC online.

Is it worth it? Absolutely! Here are 3 reasons why.

The Ultimate Reality TV

Reality TV has changed the world over the past couple of decades. From Survivor to Keeping Up With The Kardashians, TV shows have been trying to convince us that reality is more interesting than fiction.

However, we all know that reality TV generally strays very far from the actual reality. Creative editing and production can propagate certain narratives – usually the narratives that are most drama-filled and will appeal to the widest audiences.

UFC, however, is not that sort of reality TV. When you watch fights, you are watching reality play out in front of you, live. Every fighter’s career is at stake, and their emotions are very real. It is way more interesting than waiting to hear what scandal the Kardashians think up next.

Watch As Legends Are Born

Unlike many other sports, in UFC, fighters become legends in an instant. Upsets are always possible, and can elevate an unknown name to stardom. If you choose the fighters you think have most potential, you can be there when they make the jump.

There’s little more exhilarating than watching a fighter you've seen battle his or her way from the bottom beat one of the world’s best, suddenly becoming one of them. You can see the joy in their faces, the bewilderment in their opponents, and cheer along with a jubilant audience.

Be there as the next Conor McGregor makes history, starting his journey to the top, fighting setbacks and pushing through every challenge in his path.

Live Fights Are Events

Going to watch a fight live tends to be an event, rather than just a match. There are a load of smaller fights before the headline match-up. This is the perfect time to assess the newcomers, and those who you've heard of but haven't had the chance to watch.

The venue also will have put a lot of work into making the fights, and everything around them, a fun event. Sponsors give merchandise away to lucky fans, and you can spend time just taking in the atmosphere.

By the time the headline match-up begins, you are buzzing. The tension is built brilliantly, and when it comes to a climax, you'll be on the edge of your seat. No one leaves early, because the result is never a foregone conclusion.

Becoming a UFC fan is definitely worth it, even if investing in it emotionally might take a bit of work.
