Event Preview: Rivals XLV: Rude vs. Speed
Eternal Rivals {150k+}
2012-08-17, Tokyo, Shinjuku Indoor Arena
Author:Davy Jones

We now have 2 writers for the events. The previous ones were done by Mad Raefon and this event will be covered by Blitz Kriegg. Thanks guys!

Event sponsored by HELL’S KITCHEN LAB CORP

Fights are three 5-min rounds for non-title fights while Title bouts are five 5-min rounds in a 10 points must scoring system

Undercard Fights:

JAMES BLACKHILL (1-1) VS JOHANNES VERNE (1-1)

Both fighters are coming of a loss on their previous fight and are looking to get back on the winning column. Both fighters are good wrestlers but Blackhill has the advantage, and if he could avoid being clinched where Verne has the distinct advantage he can dominate this bout. Verne via T/KO on second round.

JUN ARAI (0-2) VS ETHAN SACKETT (2-0)

Sackett is looking to go on a three fight winning streak while Arai will try to avoid being down 0-3. Sackett has the advantage on the ground and he needs to utilize that dangerous GnP as well as his Muay Thai expertise. Arai needs to up his game if he wants to end Sackett’s W-streak. Sackett via first round T/KO.

VASILIS MALIOUFAS (0-2) VS LESBEK ALIEV (1-1)

This bout can go either way, Malioufas can get his first W if he can use his Muay Thai skills more efficiently this time, while Aliev needs to be as relentless as he is on his previous fight where he got a win via submission. I would give the win via decision for Malioufas.

JEROEN BLAUWOOG (2-0) VS OUTKAST JOBBER (1-1)

Blauwoog is a budding knockout artist capping his 2 wins via first round KO, if Jobber can survive Blauwoog’s onslaught and take this fight on the ground and keep it there, Jobber can get the W. But I would give this fight to Blauwoog in another first round T/KO.

MOHAMED ZULU (3-2) VS HARRISON BEST (4-3)

This is going to be a good stand-up war between Zulu and Best. Zulu is looking to start another winning streak and end his two-fight losing streak while Best want to avoid having an equal win-loss record and move up the 205 lb division ladder. Best has the advantage on clinch and must use it in order to dominate this bout. If Zulu can keep the fight in distance and be able to throw those bombs, he might win. Best via T/KO in second.

MO LEE (9-1) VS PRINCE FUNKYAMA (6-1)

Both fighters’ lone loss came from the 135 lb Champion Ricardo Ramirez. Mo Lee is looking for a shot at the title while Funkyama wants another shot at it. Funkyama is a knockout artist, while Lee is a seasoned fighter with only three but nonetheless brutal T/KO’s. This is going to be a good standup war, with Funkyama’s killing instinct kicking in he can possibly win this one via first round T/KO.

BUZZ LIGHTBEAR (5-1) VS IZAAK WATERS (4-2)

Buzz Lightbear is a sub-specialist who takes his prey on the ground and consistently tries to make them tap or nap, while Waters is an all around fighter who prefers stand-up which is good for him on this bout. Waters will have a hard time avoiding takedown attempts from Lightbear but needs to keep this one standing to avoid the tap or nap. Lightbear via first round Tap or Nap.

CO-MAIN EVENT for the 170 LB TITLE

WILLIAM DOS SANTOS (9-2) VS XAVIER STYLES (8-2-1)

This is a title rematch where Styles is looking to regain his title back after losing it via decision against Dos Santos. Last fight, both fighters stand and bang at each other which earned them the FOTN award, this time Styles needs to use his BJJ Black Belt in his advantage just like how he did in his last two wins but Dos Santos, the Champion, will surely come prepared and will look to defend his crown for the third time. This is a FOTN contender which can go either way as the two are evenly matched on their strengths. I will give this one to the Champion via decision.

MAIN EVENT for the 265 LB TITLE

RICK RUDE (8-3) VS NATHAN SPEED (8-1)

Both guys are evenly matched on their feet, although Speed, the contender who is also a former champion, has a huge advantage on Muay Thai as well as on the ground. If Speed tries to take this on the ground the Champ might have some serious problems. I will give this one to the contender Speed via Submission.
