Island Combat Championship's Inaugural Event


[Main Event]

(Featherweight Division) Leon Quinones vs. Ben Smith Round 1 – Ben Smith came out with a jab and a cross followed by a body shot. Quinones covered up and Smith pushed forward with a one-two. Quinones shot in for a double leg takedown that Smith defended, but the two ended up working against the cage. Quinones let the takedown attempt go, opting to press Smith against the cage. Smith reversed the position, backed away, and unloaded with a right hand, then another right hand! Quinones slumped back against the ropes and Smith hit him with a followup right hand that put him out cold!
Ben Smith def. Leon Quinones via KO (Punch) at 0:26 of round 1 to win the main event!



[Co-Main Event]

(Lightweight Division) Jose Gomez vs. Samart Payakaroon
Round 1 – Jose Gomez shot in with an early takedown, landing in guard on top. Gomez passed into half guard before passing further into mount! Gomez was obviously looking for a submission. Payakaroon tried to escape to his feet and gave up his back! Gomez locked in the hooks, locked in the choke, and forced the tap!

(Light-Heavyweight Division) Antonio Almeida vs. Vin Sentiments
Round 1 – Antonio Almeida rushed forward, slipping a right hand from Vin Sentiments and tying him up and clinching with him up against the cage. Almeida went to work immediately with uppercuts, hitting Sentiments with punch after punch, working the body, the head, the body. A big uppercut visibly wobbled Sentiments and followup punches put him down, prompting a stoppage.

(Heavyweight Division) Gary Goodridge vs. John Smith
Round 1 – Gary Goodridge scored an early takedown into half guard and went to work with ground and pound with the occasional submission attempt. Near the end of the round, John Smith threatened with a submission of his own before reversing into top guard! Smith postured up but resolved to control the position for the remainder of the round.

Round 2 – Smith opened with a takedown into side control on top! Goodridge tried to buck his hips and escape and gave up his back in the process! Smith tried to crank on his neck without both hooks in and Goodridge turned into his guard on top. Although he landed a couple of short elbows, Goodridge was content to remain in the dominant position and control. Smith managed to sweep himself into guard on top! Goodridge tried to work the high guard and Smith passed into half guard. Both men threatened with kimura attempts to close out this round.

Round 3 – Smith scored an immediate takedown, landing in half guard on top. The two fighters traded submission at tempts for the better part of two minutes until a lull prompted a referee standup. After half a minute of staring into each other's eyes, Goodridge attempted some punches and Smith took him down, landing in half guard on top. Smith threatened with a kimura, dropped a few hammerfists, and stalled out the end of the round.
After three rounds of action, this fight was declared a draw.



(Featherweight Division) Selefkos Nicator vs. Indiana Cojones
Round 1 – Selefkos Nicator immediately tried to clinch and ate a body shot as Indiana Cojones circled away. Nicator pushed forward again and again and Cojones kept circling away and landing jabs. Nicator clinched after some effort and pulled guard. Nicator worked the high guard, threatening with a triangle choke. When that failed twice, he transitioned to an armbar and forced the tap!

[Undercard]


(Welterweight Division) Storm Mjolnir vs. Kamaru Usman


Round 1 – Kamaru Usman opened with a leg kick and Storm Mjolnir dropped him with a one-two combination! Mjolnir landed another big shot to the body this time and Usman shot in on his legs. After dropping some elbows, Usman stood back up and then took Mjolnir back down again, landing in guard. Usman passed into side control and stalled for a moment, passing into full mount near the end of the round.



 

Round 2 – Usman opened this round with a takedown into half guard. After failing to complete an arm triangle, Usman got back to his feet only to shoot in again, landing in guard. Mjolnir tried to escape to his feet and Usman mounted him! Usman began dropping bombs on Mjolnir, who immediately rolled and gave up his back! Usman worked for the rear choke and then closed out the round landing shots.



 

Round 3 – A wild striking exchange ensued to open this round and Usman finished it with a takedown into Mjolnir's guard. Mjolnir immediately executed an escape to his feet. Mjolnir pushed forward, swinging wildly with left and right hooks and Usman ducked under with a takedown into guard! Usman began working ground and pound from top guard. For no reason whatsoever Usman stood up and then shot back into Mjolnir's guard. Mjolnir attempted to stand up and Usman passed into side control. Usman stalled for a moment and then stood back up for no reason. A sloppy striking exchange with only one landed shot ensued for the remainder of the round.

(Middleweight Division) Luka Kozlov vs. Daniel Two


Round 1 – Luka Kozlov shot in on the legs of Daniel Two immediately, landing in guard on top. Kozlov spent the entirety of this round on top dropping ground and pound, eventually working his way to full mount in the process.



 

Round 2 – Kozlov shot in for a takedown attempt and got tagged by a hook to the body from Two, who then cracked him with a stiff jab that busted Kozlov's face up. Kozlov shot in for another takedown attempt and Two stuffed it easily. Two pushed forward with a three punch combination and Kozlov shot in for a takedown and ran face first into a right hand that staggered him! Two pushed forward and knocked Kozlov out cold with a big right hand!
Daniel Two def. Luka Kozlov via KO (Punch) at 0:41 of round 2.





(Middleweight Division) Rolf Harris vs. Dallas Paige


Round 1 – The two fighters traded punches in the opening seconds of the fight before Paige took Harris down. Harris began working the high guard, threatening with submissions off of his back. Near the end of the round, After failing to advance his position, Paige began trying to stand back up. Harris took the opportunity to reverse into top guard! Paige stalled out the remainder of the round holding an incomplete kimura.



 

Round 2 – Harris came out swinging wildly and got taken down by Paige once again, who landed in side control. Paige began working on an arm triangle choke and Harris got back to half guard. Harris tried to control the position but Paige passed into mount! Paige began dropping punches but Harris quickly tied him up and controlled his posture. Harris got back to half guard and then full guard to close out the round.



 

Round 3 – Harris tagged Paige with a big punch in the opening seconds and then Paige took him down for the third round in a row, landing in full guard on top. Harris managed to sweep into top guard! After a bit of a struggle, Harris passed into half guard, but only for a moment as Paige regained full guard. Harris passed into side control and dropped a few elbows to score points. Harris threw up his legs for a triangle choke but nothing came of it.
After three rounds of action, this fight was declared a draw.





(Welterweight Division) Julio Dean vs. Jack Rackham


Round 1 – Jack Rakham opened with a combination that missed and Julio Dean clinched him up. Rackham tried to work the dirty boxing and Dean pulled guard. Dean forced a scramble and reversed into the top position, passing effortlessly into side control. Dean began isolating the arm of Rackham, threatening with a kimura. Near the end of the round, Rackham broke free and got back to his feet.



 

Round 2 – Rackham was landing punches and Dean was trying to wrestle to no avail. Rackham cracked Dean with a big right hand that put Dean down and nearly out! Badly hurt, Dean climbed to his feet and went down from another right hand! After Dean got back to his feet for the second time, Rackham pushed forward, pouring on shots that put Dean down and prompted a stoppage!

(Light-Heavyweight Division) Ronny Limmerick vs. Aubrey Whitney

Round 1 – Aubrey Whitney opened this fight with a double leg takedown attempt but it was stuffed by Ronny Limmerick. Whitney began chasing Limmerick across the cage, shooting for telegraphed takedown attempts while Limmerick circled away landing stiff jabs and crosses.

 

Round 2 – Second verse same as the first: Whitney shooting for awful takedown attempts and Limmerick jabbing him away. Whitney finally scored a takedown, landing in half guard. Whitney managed to control the position but then abruptly stood up and opted to strike with Limmerick. Although Whitney landed a couple of punches, Limmerick cracked him in the nose with a stiff jab that drew some blood.

 

Round 3 – Both fighters were landing some punches in the opening minutes of this fight and then Whitney went back to attempting takedowns. Just after the two minute mark, Limmerick tagged Whitney with a one-two combination that put him down momentarily. Whitney shot in for a desperate takedown and Limmerick defended, leading to them clinched up against the cage. Limmerick circled away from the cage and tagged the pursuing Whitney with a big left hand! Whitney went down for the secomd time and Limmerick swarmed him, pouring on more shots!
Ronny Limmerick def. Aubrey Whitney via TKO (Strikes) at 2:29 of round 3.
