UnderGround FC 50 Preview & Predictions (930150)
5TH OCT 2019- NYC – HARD KNOCKS ARENA - Written by Gabe T.S. Gardner (112290)
Hey all. I’m Jobbing MMA tycoon writer, and designer Gabe here, filling in for the wonderful UnderGround stalwart: Kendo!
We have an insanely packed card here to break down, so let's jump right in!
MAIN EVENT
HARPER VS TO BE POSITIVE
Robert “RH” Harper 9-3-0 VS Desperately “Trying” To Be Positive 9-9-0
3 5-minute rounds under MMA rules at 205lbs
Our main event for the evening is a clash between two experienced Light heavyweights, with “RH” taking on “Trying”. First things first, I’d like to congratulate Mr. To Be Positives parents for perhaps being the cruellest name-bestowers I’ve ever seen, now moving onto the fight.
Harper has seen his previously stellar form stall, suffering a stoppage loss in his last fight, whereas To Be Positive, who’s had a career of trading wins and losses so far, is on a two-fight win streak, and comes in with a superior striking component to his skill set, in this analysts mind anyway.
That said? The far more well-rounded of the two would have to be Harper, who has a submission for every occasion in his locker, and enough striking acumen to be able to avoid damage long enough to implement his game plan. It might take him until the second round, but I still predict Harper gets the tap inside the distance, should he be able to avoid getting clipped by a determined striker in “Trying”, who has ended all of his wins with a knockout.
Gabe’s Pre-Fight Prediction: Robert “RH” Harper (W) SUB Rounds 1-2
CO-MAIN EVENT
KEMONITO VS PETIOT
“The Tiny Tormentor” Juan Kemonito 6-2-0 VS Marcel “Docteur Satan” Petiot 7-3-0
3 5-minute rounds under MMA rules at 135lbs
Our Co-Main sees two young, hungry bantamweights pitting off, as “The Tiny Tormentor” takes on “Docteur Satan”. This will be the first fight back from his recent title challenge, where Kemonito fought Tree Fortay in a losing effort back at Underground 34, losing by submission in the very first round.
An accomplished grappler in his own right, Kemonito must be planning to take the fight to the ground here, to avoid the considerable standup ability of his opponent, Petiot. Where things get interesting is Marcel Petiot, undefeated under his current management, has shown a submission game of his own recently, tapping Tommy Reed late into their 3 round contest, managing to stifle the brown belts offense on the ground, and denying 13 separate submission attempts, before beating the grappler at his own game.
In short? This is a hard to predict fight, And while I say I favour Kemonito going into this one, he is going to be in more danger than he thinks in every facet of the fight, and if he cant frustrate and submit his opponent early, the increased likelihood that he could let this one get away from him, and be clipped, or tapped himself. That said, I’ll stick with “The Tiny Tormentor”, getting a unanimous decision...Just.
Gabe’s Pre-Fight Prediction: “The Tiny Tormentor” Juan Kemonito (W) UD Round 3
DIVISEK VS MALDONADO
Juraj Divisek “George” 5-2-0 VS Ralphie “Head kick” Maldonado 8-4-0
3 5-minute rounds under MMA rules at 155lbs
For our third, and last featured fight, my dark horse for scrap of the night: Divisek vs Maldonado.
Two incredibly talented, well rounded young lions on a tear up at one of the most exciting divsions to watch as a fan? Could you ask for any more?!
Enough salivating ladies and gentlemen, lets break this one down.
If we are looking at having all bases covered, look no further than Maldonado, a fighter whos record doesn’t quite reflect his overall versality, having across the board talents in striking, and grappling, of all disciplines. This could however have a bit of a Michael Bisping effect – in that while he’s good at everything, he isn’t quite a master at anything - whereas the skills that Divisek does possess, he possesses in spades.
If I’m Divisek, I’m going to want to stifle Maldonados attempts to keep the fight on the feet, where he poses a threat most, with alternating kicks, punches, and volume. Take him down, beat him up, that’s the game plan for me. If I’m Maldonado, I’m keeping this fight standing up, and using my wide variety of kicks and strikes to keep Divisek on his toes, attacking the legs, and restricting his movement. It's worth noting that Divisek doesn’t favour kicks, finding his hands to be the only weapon he needs.
A tough one to call, but I think that Divisek has slightly more directions to take this fight in than Maldonado, but it wouldn’t surprise me if the more versatile striker got Divisek in trouble with his volume and variety. I have Divisek, late by KO/TKO, or possibly showing us that he has some submissions in his repertoire.
Gabe’s Pre-Fight Prediction: Juraj Divisek “George” (W) KO/TKO or SUB Rounds 2-3
UNDERCARD
JOHN MICHAEL BENITOY 5-3-0 VS JOHNNY ROSENTHAL 4-2-0
3 5-minute rounds under MMA rules at 145lbs
Gabe’s Pre-Fight Prediction: John Michael “Gangster” Benitoy (W) UD Round 3
KANG URIP 3-2-0 VS GOMEZ ADDAMS 6-5-0
3 5-minute rounds under MMA rules at 185lbs
Gabe’s Pre-Fight Prediction: Kang “High” Urip (W) UD Round 3
EVGENY POPOV 4-0-0 VS BRYAN THOMPSON 4-1-0
3 5-minute rounds under MMA rules at 155lbs
Gabe’s Pre-Fight Prediction: Evgeny Popov (W) SUB Round 1
I've been Gabe, remember to tune in, and buckle up for a night of fantastic fights in NYC!
