HFC Fight Night 1 - Pettis vs Gilchrist

Hello hardcore MMA fans!  Welcome to the first ever HFC Fight night!
We're proud to bring you this event from New York!
This card will feature 10 bouts across 6 different divisions, some great young fighters as well as some up and comers looking to establish themselves in the HFC!

Now, lets get started...

Fletcher vs Tau

The first fight of the night will come from our 185 division as Arrow Fletcher (1-0) facing off against Manu Tau (0-1).

Tau is 0-1 in the HFC, and in MMA, but he has a 2-1 record in the TWGC.  A submission specialist with some impressive BJJ skills.  Coming from the TWGC, Tau was not used to facing off against strikers and it cost him as he was quickly KO'd by Paul Stiles in his first HFC event.  Don't count this guy out, if he gets you on the ground, he can make you tap quick!

His opponent in this fight, Arrow Fletcher, has a victory in an amature MMA bout, and his only fight to date.  He is looking to come in and establish himself in the HFC, but this will not be an easy opponent.  Fletcher is also a ground fighter, specializing in wrestling, and most likely looking to score some ground and pound.
Don't expect to see this fight stay standing as these two will surely look to take it to the ground and see who's got what it takes to walk away the victor.

Stickmann vs Tonissaaar

Our second bout of the evening will stay in the 185 division as Rod Stickmann (3-3) faces off against Baruto Tonissaar (1-1).

Stickmann joins the HFC after stints with ACE and SAFO where he had some impressive finishes and some disappointing defeats.  He has yet to win or lose two fights in a row, so the betters may be counting on that trend and put their money on Stickmann to win this bout as he's coming off a loss in his final SAFO event.
His opponent, also new to the HFC, is Baruto Tonissaar.  This is a young striker who lost his only Striking Masters event, but quickly rebounded with a win in his QFC debut.  Both of his fights ended in a decision, but something tells me this one will end in a KO, one way or the other...
Good luck to both of these fighters, I sure hope I see some blood!

Stiles vs Frazier

Our third bout of the night is Heavy hander Paul Stiles (2-0) squaring off against newcomer Roy Frazier (0-0).

Stiles coming off a brilliant KO of Manu Tau will be looking to do more of the same against Frazier.  Stiles is currently the frontrunner in the 185 division and looking to hang onto that position so he can hold that #1 seed in the upcoming championship series tournament.
His opponent, Frazier,  has some boxing training that he will hope to utilize to keep Stiles from landing that KO strike while he works to move the fight to the ground to utilize his BJJ skills.
This fight may simply come down to rather or not Stiles can keep it standing.  As we don't know what to truly expect from Frazier, anything can happen.  Looking forward to a good bout here.

Soares vs Lidaka

Our fourth fight of the night will place Gilbervan Soares (0-1) against Arvids Lidaka (0-2).

These two fighters both need to find a way to win this fight.  With the championship series tournament coming up, seeding will play a huge roll and you don't want to be the last seed.  Soares lost his first and only bout in the HFC by way of submission to Jack Ham.  This happened so fast that we really didn't get to see what Soares is made of, or capable of.
Lidaka comes into this fight in desperation mode.  He's 0-2 and shown no real promise in his first two fights.  He has some skills in BJJ, but hasn't been able to put it on display.  If he doesn't find a way to win this fight, we might see him take up his second hobby of gardening full time.

Kuhn vs Davis

Our fith fight of the night features winless John Kuhn (0-2) squaring off against the veteran Mark Davis (2-2).

Not much to say about this fight for Kuhn as he's just trying to find a way to win a fight.  His moral can't be very high after two strait losses, and he needs a win to lift his spirits and put him back into the mix of things.
Davis is the old, more experienced fighter.   With a record of 2-2 (1-1) QFC and a loss in his one fight with SMASH, and coming off a win in his first ever HFC bout, he'll be looking to build on that momentum with another win against Kuhn.

Biggins vs Vicious

Our sixth fight of the night features up and comer Tyrome Biggins (1-0) facing off against Mikey Vicious (1-1).

Biggins had an outstanding defensive showing in his first bout against Oduun, but didn't display much offensive ability.  He managed enough to get the decision though, and a win is a win.
Vicious is coming off a loss to Colby Vovigton in his last bout, but what an epic brawl it was.  Vicious showed some promise, but got caught in a submission with just over a minute to go in the final round.  The fans enjoyed that fight, and I'm sure they'll enjoy this one too.

Vovigton vs Cain

In our seventh fight of this card, we have Colby Vovigton (1-0) taking on Cain (2-1).

Vovigton coming off a big win versus Mikey Vicious in his first HFC bout will be looking to keep the ball rolling against his opponent, Cain.  In his last fight, Vovigton displayed some good BJJ to get the win.
Cain comes into this bout at 2-1, but this will be his first HFC bout.  His one loss was in the GCF as he was tapped out in the first round, but his two victories were by way of KO, and TKO.  This guy obviously has some power, so we'll see who emerges the victor

Woodoo vs Anderson

Our eighth fight features Waampa Woodoo (0-1) and Robinson Anderson (1-0).

Woodoo is a Muay Thai specialist and holds a blue belt in BJJ.  His clothes smell bad, but that just might be from training at the locak Kozad facility, I hear that place doesn't clean their equipment.  I hope he gets checked for staph before he enters the cage.
Anderson comes into this fight a newcomer to the HFC, but off an impressive showing in the QFC where he beat down his opponent and forced the ref to step in and stop the fight.  He displays a balanced, but not overly impressive, stand up game and has some solid wrestling skills.  He's a pretty well rounded fighters, and looking to beat the stink off of his opponent.
(seriously guys, if you train at Kozad I'm going to poke fun at you.. it's a horrible training facility)

Quick vs Yoaz

Our ninth card has two newcomers to the HFC squaring off as Quick (0-0) faces off against Yoaz (0-0).  This was simplly a fill in fight and not much to be said about these two.  We'll see how it goes and write up more about this in the post event review.

Gilchrist vs Pettis

In our main event, we feature newcomer Rodrigo Pettis (0-0) facing off against submission specialist Sonny Gilchrist (3-0).

Pettis is a 21 year old boxer with a blue belt in BJJ.  We've not seen him fight before, but he is confident heading into his first ever HFC bout against Gilchrist, hoping to hand him is first loss.  Overmatched on the ground, lets see if his defense can keep the fight standing.  If so, he just might accomplish that goal.
Gilchrist is coming off yet another impressive submission victory in his last bout against Petrov at Core Combat V.  He earned submission of the night in both of his Core events, and has no intentions of slowing down.  No doubt, he'll be looking to take Pettis down and show a blue belt how a brown belt does business.
