Author:Marus Marciano

Ladies and gentlemen,New York’s biggest rising MMA organization, Survival Of The Fittest, presents it’s fourth event, SOTF  4: Samurai Spirit, an event which will take place on August 19, 2012, live from Hayashi’s lounge and will be headlined by the light heavyweight bout between two of the organization’s biggest stars, Brad Charyak and Hairy Kane. Also on the card 8 other fights. Now let’s begin our fight per fight preview:

   Ron Kelly v Mark Calahan

To kick things off,we begin with a 205 bout between 2 newcomers, well rounded fighter Ron Kelly, and the wrestler Mark Calahan. New York’s own Ron Kelly will be looking to use his superior striking to finish the fight, while Canadian Mark Calahan knows that he needs to take the fight to the ground in order to win. Will he be able to do that? Or will Kelly be able to defend the takedowns and stay on his feet?

 James Rivera v Frank Mir

It’s  the heavyweights folks! Bronks’ own James Rivera will be looking to get his first professional win in his promotional debut using his superb boxing. Nonetheless, his opponent Frank Mir  is not half bad boxer, even though his main quality is his ground game, being a strong wrestler and a BJJ purple belt. While Rivera looks like he have a small advantage on his feet, he definitely doesn’t want to go to the ground with someone like Mir.

 Ozzy Stanton v William Cockburn

And we move down to the lightweights. Ozzy Stanton will be making his third promotional appearance, the wrestler from Philly will be taking on the english BJJ wizard William Cockburn. Both men posses strong ground games, but the irony happens to be that both of Stanton’s professional losses came via submission, the same way all three off Cockburn’s wins came from, a statistic that will boost the confidence of the English man.

Max Henderson v Henry Ballard

The fourth bout of the evening will be a middleweight showdown, and just like the previous bout, this will be a fight between a BJJ specialist,19 year old Max Henderson, and a wrestler,18 year old Henry Ballard. Both young fighters will be looking to get their first SOTF win right from their promotional debut, so who will prevail, the wrestler or the BJJ purple belt?

Roy Brown v Zhang Zhu

In the welterweight division, two journeymen will collide looking for their first promotional win. Both fighters are well-rounded, but for the Canadian fighter Roy Brown, it’s his ground game that prevails, a superb wrestler with BJJ purple belt that enabled him to win 9 fights via submission. As for his opponent Zhang Zhu, striking is the Chinese man’s strongest weapon. Which veteran will add another win to his long resume?

Vincenzo Calliente v Hugh Matthews

Still in the welterweight division, the man who defeated both Roy Brown and Zhang Zhu in his first two SOTF fights, hometown hero Vicenzo Calliente, will take on fellow veteran, elite wrestler Hugh Matthews. Both men known for their well-rounded games, with Matthews, whose currently riding a 4 fight winning streak, looking like he has an advantage over his opponent thanks his wrestling, nonetheless Callente’s superior BJJ game means that Matthews has to be very careful while working on the guard

Andouh Andouh v Danny Hulk

Back to the heavyweights, another BJJ VS wrestling is set to take place, with BJJ brown belt Andouh Andouh taking on wrestler Danny Hulk. With both men winning their promotional debut, this bout will determine which young fighter will continue to climb the 265 division ladder. Hulk’s non existing striking game means that he will be forced to take the fight to the ground if wants to have a chance at winning, but Andouh won’t mind that and will be looking to submit him there, should be very interesting to watch

Julio Silva v Dmitry Petrenko

And to the co-main event, Brazilian BJJ black belt Julio Silva takes on Canadian Muay Thai specialist Dmitry Petrenko in a fight that where two of the very best 155 fighters in New York will collide in their respective SOTF debuts. Both fighters have more than one weapon, which will make this bout a great one wherever the fight goes. Make sure not to miss this one!

Brad Charyak v Hairy Kane

ITS TIME! in Our main event of the evening, SOTF’s number one ranked fighter Brad Charyak, takes on knockout artist and Japan’s  own Hairy Kane. Charyak possessing one of the most incredible well-rounded games that you will ever find, will be confident wherever the fight goes, meanwhile his opponent Kane will look forward to stay on his feet and do what he likes to do best, and that is knock people out. Will Chayrak proves why he is considered to be the best fighter in the organization, or will Kane pull out the upset and make his claim to be the be the actual best fighter in Survival of the fittest? I guess you will have to tune in to find out!
