SPFT 66: Brown vs Stoppers 2 PREVIEW

Hello again SPFT faithful. Folgers MegaAir here again after some time spent locked away in a secret prison. They wanted to shut me up! They didn't want you to get the kind of hard hitting previews and reviews that I arrange for you every week. But they couldn't keep me down forever. No! I escaped the prison and managed to sneak my way to freedom. They will not shut us down! Now, to more pressing matters. SPFT 66: Brown vs Stoppers 2. What a grand event for my re-entry into the writing game. Maybe it was just because of my connection to Jason Bourne. I don't know, here is the preview.

Austin Beck 4-0(3-0 in SPFT) vs. Cedric Daniels 22-14(1-0) @170lbs

This looks like a great fight to start the night. Beck comes in with one of the top Muay Thai games in the division. He will look to utilize those skills to overcome his more experienced opponent. Daniels is a much more well rounded fighter. He has better boxing than Beck, but his true advantage looks to be on the ground. If Daniels can manage to get it to the ground he should at least be able to control the fight and avoid the big shot from beck, if he cannot manage his third submission victory. This will be a huge test for the up and coming Beck. I think Daniels will find a way to win this though.

Prediction: Daniels by Submission

Johnny B Good 10-9(2-3) vs. Jiu “My” Jitsu 12-10(0-1) @265+

On paper it looks like B Good should win this one. He has better stand up and the wrestling and BJJ to possibly contain Jitsu's submission attack. In all but two of Jitsu's fights he either won by submission or lost by knockout. This fight should follow that same pattern. Jitsu should never be counted out, because he could slap on a kimura at any moment if it goes to the ground. I just think it is much more likely that B Good reaches double digit KOs on his career stat sheet.

Prediction: B Good by (T)KO

Andy “The Artist” Allanson 16-10-6( 3-1-5) vs. Ben “Fallout” Fallon 9-7(1-1) @145

“The Artist's” art seems to be fighting to a draw. His favorite games as a child included hot potato without a timer, musical chairs with more chairs than people and duck duck duck. In all seriousness though, this fight could go either way. Allanson holds a slight advantage in the stand up and wrestling side of things, while Fallon has a stronger submission game. The only outcome to this fight that would be a surprise would be Allanson earning a submission. Other than that anything is possible. For the prediction I'm just going to play the odds.

Prediction: Draw.

Johnny “Crash” Davis 29-15-1(3-1) vs. Eriku Landstimma 16-8(2-0) @135

Davis is looking to reload for another (and probably final) run at the title after his loss to the champ in his last fight. Step one is Landstimma, a rising star in SPFT. Landstimma has won his first two fights in SPFT and is looking to build his resume for a title shot of his own. Standing up, this is anyone's fight. Davis has never been knocked out in his 45 fight career, but if he focuses all of his energy on not going to the ground to face Landstimma's BJJ, he may forget to pay his electric bill. As alluded to in the previous sentence, Landstimma's main advantage is his BJJ. Both fighters are well rounded. One is on the rise and one is looking for one last run at greatness.

Prediction: Landstimma by Decision

Bones Jones 23-8(2-3) vs. Peter “The Iron Walrus” Parts 15-10(4-3) @205

In the next bout we have two SPFT veterans with a history of knocking people out. I expect to see one of them win in spectacular fashion. Jones has a distinct advantage on the ground. If his game plan doesn't involve some takedown attempts I would be surprised. The key to Parts' fight is to defend those takedowns and take advantage of the resulting energy loss of his opponent with a consistent yet smart boxing attack. This is a tough fight to pick, but I am required (almost entirely by my ego) to give a prediction for every fight.

Prediction: Parts by (T)KO

“The Zombie” Chul Moo Pak 9-2 & 1 NC(2-1 & 1 NC) vs. Gabriel Kiptanui 14-9(3-1) @170

If this fight goes to the ground I fully expect Kiptanui to submit Pak. However, that is easier said than done. Kiptanui has to seriously respect Pak's stand up and take down defense. Kiptanui isn't just some pushover standing in his own right, but his game is much more ground oriented. That's right people, a classic ground fighter vs stand up fighter. I've gone back and forth in my mind on this one. At this point in the mental tennis match this how I expect it to end up.

Prediction: Kiptanui by Submission

Nobuhiro “Nobu” Nakamura 23-12(4-2) vs. “BB King” Bako King 18-11(2-1) @265

I like Nakamura in this one. It looks like a pretty even matchup between two experienced fighters, but after seeing both fighters in their training camps, Nakamura seems extra focused and ready to bounce back after losing two of his last three. Nakamura's wrestling could be used to control where the fight takes place. Combining that with a smart striking attack and he could walk away the victor. He also has a bit of a history of getting knocked out though. King will surely look to add another paragraph to that chapter in the biography of Nakamura.

Prediction: Nakamura by (T)KO

“The Lightning Rod” Xavier Mack 10-4(0-0) vs. Master Splinter 15-6(1-0) @265

Mack is making his SPFT debut against another recent acquisition. From a skill standpoint I suspect he will make an impact in his first bout here. Splinter has top notch Muay Thai but comparatively he is lacking in every other aspect of the fight. Don't count Splinter out as long as knock outs still win fights, but I can't pick against Mack in this one.

Prediction: Mack by (T)KO

“The Snake” Jake Roberts 14-6(2-1) vs. “Go For Broke” Tyler Brooks 9-3(1-2) @135

I'm going to be honest with you. Seeing “The Snake” in front of “Jake Roberts” instead of being nestled safely between his first name and the surname kind of makes me want predict a huge upset here. Screw it, here I go! First I will hedge my bet by mentioning that Roberts should dominate this fight. That being said. Brooks has the wrestling advantage. If he can take this fight to the ground and avoid the submissions of his opponent he could ground and pound his way to a TKO or a decision. And uhh, that is how I am predicting this to go. Yup. No turning back now.

Prediction: Brooks by Decision

~HEAVY WEIGHT TITLE FIGHT~

“Bad Bad” Leroy Brown 19-5-2(4-1) vs. “The Power” Willy Stoppers 15-8(7-2) @265

In their first fight, Brown earned the first round TKO. This time around I think Stoppers will stick around longer. With the top level boxing that both of these fighters have, either one could earn a KO at any time. On of the keys to this fight may be the wrestling aspect though. Stoppers is the better BJJ player so he may look to take it to the ground and some point. That is easier said than down though against Brown. I expect Brown to bounce back from a pair of losses and a draw during his stint away from SPFT.

Prediction: Brown by (T)KO

Well that is it for this preview. Be sure to catch the review of this very event after it takes place. And look forward to future previews featuring guest writers such as The Queen of England, Mike Tycoon, Giorgio Tsoukalos, some random astrologist, Sun Tzu and more.
