BFC 4: Mullin vs. Cole
Well hello Rio De Janeiro!!! Bloodbath Fighting Championship is back to bring their fourth event ever!! Let me tell you folks, this league is on the rise and this card shows just that. I will be honest, every time I cover a night of fights in Rio I get really excited. No it's not just the vibrant nightlife and easily accessible hallucinogens, it is the fact that every time I watch a night of fights here, someone gets brutally knocked out. As this Organization continues to grow in size and talent the events they are putting are becoming more and more electric. May 8th 2020 will be no different, as this card is stacked. Let's take a look at some of the evening's top fights.
©Herbert Mullin (13-8) Vs. Rico "Red Hot" Cole (29-16-1) - 265lb Open Weight Championship
What a treat we get as two legends duke it out with incredibly high stakes on the line. The winner will likely be the future BFC Lightweight Champion once BFC divisions fill out. We have two beasts duking it out for BFC’s only current belt, the BFC 265+ Open Weight Championship. Rico Red”Hot” Cole has fought in some of the world's top organizations. His signing to BFC made headlines worldwide and he has lived up to the hype. He fought at BFC1 and BFC2 both unanimous wins. He is a very well rounded fighter but likes to stand and utilize his elite Muay Thai. His opponent, the Champ, Herbert Mullin, should be just fine with that, as he also likes to bang. Herbert has also been active for BFC racking up wins at BFC1 and 3. Expect these two to put on a show and throw bombs back and forth until someone goes night night.
Prediction: Rico “Red Hot” Cole sizzles Herbert all fight then puts him out in the 3rd with a KO.
“Wild" Derek Wylde (17-9) Vs. Sebastian "Der Kaiser" Halstenberg (14-9) - 265lb Open Weight Bout
“Wild” Derek Wylde was so close to being tonight's main event. AT BFC 3 he faced the champ but came up short. He now looks to rebound against a very dangerous opponent in Sebastian "Der Kaiser" Halstenberg. Sebastian has not had a great start here in BFC as he is 0-2 (BFC1 and 3). That being said Sebsatian is a proven fighter and will be a force once he gets some momentum behind him. He looks to do just that in this fight. Both of these fighters are natural welterweights, so this fight will have big implications in that division moving forward for BFC. Both fighters are really good wrestlers, expect a lot of grappling with some occasional haymakers.
Prediction: Wild Derek rebounds quickly and gets back in the win column after some nasty GNP leads to a 2nd round TKO. A furious Sebsatian goes on a rampage in the locker room, then during the press conference proceeds to blame local food poisoning for his poor performance (even though I saw him out at the bars the night before the fight…)
Darren "The Demon Seeker" Dos Santos (3-0) Vs. Phil Wang (2-0) - 145lb Featherweight Bout
Two very dangerous undefeated Featherweights. Both these kids are having great starts to their careers. For one, the first taste of defeat will be bitter. For the other it will be a huge step forward in an already fast moving career. Phil wants to box, Darren the Demon wants to grapple. Whoever gets their way will win this fight.
Prediction: Phil dances with a Demon and lives to tell the tale. Phil Wang wins by 1st round KO.
"Turbo" Todd Wad (2-3) Vs. Taj "Hounddog" Balandabad (1-3) - 185lb Middleweight Bought
Stylistically this is a very intriguing fight. Turbo Todd is a dangerous striker but wants absolutely nothing to do with any ground fighting. Taj “Hounddog” Balandabad traditionally is a Muay Thai fighter. However he wrestled a lot growing up and is quite capable on the ground. Will Taj want to stand and bang like usual? Or will he capitalize on his opponents lack of ground game and try to take the fight there?
Prediction: Turbo Todd lands some big shots but eventually gets caught by a spinning backfist and goes down in the 3rd. No wrestling takes place at any point. Taj wins by KO.
Jackie "The Rack" Vergys (4-3) Vs. Waampa "Voodoo " Woodoo (1-5) - 135lb Bantamweight Bout
This will be a really fun fight. Look, record wise both have to improve. But they are in good gyms and now aligned with a growing league so fights like this will help them start to build momentum. Jackie is a lethal bjj practitioner. Waampa holds his own in bjj but really will be looking to strike. If Waampa forces Jackie to strike, the fight is his. If this thing goes to the ground, Jackie will have the advantage but not a dominating one.
Prediction: Waampa starts the climb to .500 after he fights a great overall fight and wins via unanimous decision.
