Combate FN4 Preview

Event Preview: CFN4: Lundgren vs. Zan
Combate
2020-11-07, Rio de Janeiro, Hard Knocks - Rio
Author:Darren Russell

Rio-based promotion Combate returns to the Hard Knocks Arena in the nation's biggest city ahead of Combate Fight Night 4, headlined by unbeaten welterweight prospect Mattias Lundgren facing off with the more experienced Tan Zan.

WELTERWEIGHT MAIN EVENT (3x5)
Mattias Lundgren vs. Tan Zan

23-year-old Stockholm-born, New York-based Mattias Lundgren (-153) will seek to further his claims as one of the top prospects in the world of mixed martial arts as he puts his 8-0 record on the line in Rio de Janeiro. Lundgren's eight wins have all come inside the distance, with six submissions and two knockouts making him a real prospect rising through the Combate ranks.

Chinese-born, former Island champion Tan Zan (+124) provides a step up in competition for the Swede, after making short work of previously unbeaten Jack Spam on his Combate debut, blasting him out of the cage in just twenty-seven seconds. Zan's twelve knockout victories in twenty-five contests would put the stand up exchanges in his favour, but Lundgren has two of his own alongside a devastating grappling resumé.

A future star could rise in the welterweight division this Saturday night. Can Lundgren secure his status as one of the hottest talents across the planet, or can China's own Tan gain a huge victory of his own?

BANTAMWEIGHT CO-MAIN EVENT (3x5)
Yelch Switzer vs. Jay Cartwright

Swiss bantamweight Yelch Switzer (-129) looks to bounce back from losing his unbeaten record at the hands of grappling expert Gauthier Delisle just three weeks ago at Combate 3, as he takes on rising bantamweight prospect Jay Cartwright. Switzer clearly has heavy hands, with four of his six wins coming by way of knockout. Five of those being in the QFC raises questions of his ability to compete at the highest level, but he will hope to topple the British prospect in Rio this Saturday.

BJJ brown belt Jay Cartwright (+106) got his career off to a flier, fighting an incredible FIVE times in FIVE weeks, winning four of those and sliding to a defeat at the hands of Gauthier Delisle also. Cartwright's four wins by submission have been by four different methods; armbar, kimura, triangle armbar and triangle. After having three weeks to prepare for this fight, could we see the best Jay Cartwright yet? Could Switzer derail the hype train?

LIGHT HEAVYWEIGHT FEATURE BOUT (3x5)
Johnny Lydon vs. Kosuke Ishimura

A light heavyweight clash with vast experience of over 65 fights between Johnny Lydon (-122) and Kosuke Ishimura (+100) will take place, with this fight seemingly heading towards a knockout with 24 KOs between the two. Both men will hope to put themselves into title contention with a victory at the Hard Knocks Arena.

LIGHT HEAVYWEIGHT FEATURE BOUT (3x5)
Carlos Blanka vs. Danny Duxbury

Two relatively fresh light heavyweights in Carlos Blanka (-129) and Danny Duxbury (+106) goes down, with Duxbury riding high off a huge victory over 7-0 prospect Jack Layton, despite heading into it with a 0-1 record! Brazil's own Carlos Blanka, holder of a 4-4 record makes his promotional debut in Rio, hoping to steal some of Duxbury's hype!

BANTAMWEIGHT PRELIM BOUT (3x5)
Wojciech Mikolajczyk (-104) vs. Claes Ragnvaldsson (-117)

LIGHTWEIGHT PRELIM BOUT (3x5)
