 DILLO THE MANAGER PODCAST #69: FRANKIE GRIGGS

Dillo: Hello everyone, welcome back! Today on the show I have one of my own fighters that I manage: Frankie Griggs. Frankie is a young prospect for GDL with a record of 6 wins and 3 losses and a 5-2 record for GAMMA D League, that I found while I was still fighting in MMA for SMASH a while back. He was still an amateur back then but soon enough I got him his fight license and threw him to the wolves.

Frankie: Yeah, fuck you for setting me up with a submission artist. All joking aside that was a shitty match up but it did inspire me to work on my defensive grappling alot more. Thats where my GDL debut comes in. I looked so much more complete and was on my way to a decision win on all judges scorecards. I played possum 5 seconds into the 3rd round and I learned a hard lesson: Don't fucking do that

Dillo: You were so mad after that fight, and rightly so. It was a bullshit stoppage, but Royale went on to actually go on a nice run for a little bit so at least you didn't lose to a bum like you did Machado. Besides I got you back into GDL after that nice showcase you put on at BFC 1.

Frankie: Yeah. After that loss to Connor Royale, I went on a 5 fight knockout run until Patrick Bateman who is no slouch. I'm not ashamed of losing to him. Thankfully though I got my rematch against Connor Royale, which I'm assuming is why you have me on?

Dillo: Correct. I want to talk about that fight, run down what was going through your head on fight night.

Frankie: Alright, where to start? I was mentally prepared to do the same thing I did last time to this guy. I was pissed and I wanted to be a better me. Now that being said I didn't end up sticking to my word because the actual fight ended up differently. I got the win but it wasn't exactly how I wanted it to go, obviously besides the finish, I expected that. I was too gun shy throughout the fight, he hugged me against the cage and just pieced me up. Then he landed his jabs as I waited for my counter shots. I didn't throw nearly as much as I wanted to and honestly it was a bad performance for me. It's safe to say if I didn't finish the fight the way I did, he would've won that fight on all judges scorecards. I'm happy to finally avenge that loss, and to do it in a vicious fashion like I did is even more satisfying, but still, my whole performance was upsetting.

Dillo: With that behind you at the very least, because honestly dude, a dub is a dub, what's next for you?

Frankie: Honestly I see Royale asking for a rematch maybe. It was a brutal knockout but i'm a humble man, he was winnning up until then so I could imagine he feels the way I did after our first fight. If he wants that i'm welcome to it. Here in GDL if he comes back or somewhere else in the far future. Other than that I'm waiting for GDL to give me another fight. I signed a brand new deal after the Royale fight so it's up to them. Maybe a rematch with Bateman. But for now i'm gonna do what I always do and just train really fucking hard, y'know? Get way better for whoever they throw at me next. 

Dillo: Sounds like a solid plan, man. I'll get talking to the GDL brass and see if I can get a contender fight for you or if I can get another welterweight prospect for you. I've got a lot with Hardcore MMA Gym and Colossus MMA opening up to 369k registered fighters, but i'll definitely get you a fight real soon because i'm sure your fans are itching to see you back in the cage.

To newer fighters that are 0-1 or 0-2 and discouraged about a professional career: Don't be discouraged, keep training and adjusting your gameplans. You'll get better! Anyway I better get back to training!
