ALWC 22 Heavyweight Dominance

The Red Light Arena in Amsterdam August 29th 2012

This event will present several great fights in the 135,145, and 155 divisions but the highlight will be in the super heavyweight division including the crowing of our first SHW champion.

Starting off the main card with a bang is:

Argo Surtr 16-5-1(3-0) vs. Villi Kotobalavu 26-11-2(0-1) at 155 pounds.

Surtr is a strong veteran who has done well since coming to the ALWC and is looking for a key win here to promote his case for a title shot. He runs a very conservative game plan utilizing his clinch game in balance with a deadly set of feet that can end any fight in a hurry if the opportunity presents itself.

Kotobalavu is a very experienced fighter (39 fights) that came into ALWC with a tough loss but if looking to turn that around with a win against another top contender. Koto is a balanced fighter that looks to drag the fight out and out last his opponent. In this matchup Koto will likely try to bring this one to the ground.

Pablo Escobar 13-5(1-1) vs. Hank Hillbilly Iii 5-1(new) at 135 pounds.

This fight features two great fighters in the little mans division. The always popular Escobar (6th most popular 135er in the world) is starting on the road to earn another title shot after losing his attempt at the title against Jake Nelson. Escobar has a devastating standup game and a competent ground game and is certainly the favorite. As a big underdog Hank comes in ready to change our vision of reality. Willing to take this tough fight Hank is looking to prove himself early in his career that he can hang with the big boys. He will likely try to key in on his wrestling abilities and keep the fight on the ground at all costs.

Sam Benton 28-5-1(1-0) v Jerry Cox 5-7(1-1) at 155 pounds.

Jerry Cox is coming off a loss and took a tough fight here against Benton. Cox said “If you need an opponent for Sam, I will fight him, I am not afraid of anyone. There is no one I cannot knock out”. Cox may be right about that so Benton would be playing it smart if he does not allow this one to stay standing long. Benton is not weak on his feat but should be aware of the threat that Cox’s hands present. Benton is a dangerous and savvy veteran who could be one step closer to a title shot here if he can finish Cox. With 22 submission victories in his career Benton is a feared submission artist who will be looking hard for number 23.

Co – Main Event:

Super heavyweight (265+) champion ship fight between Seamus O Donnell and Michael Noonan.

Seamus “Codagh” O Donnell 8-1(2-0) 3 KO’s, 3 fight of the nights, 2 main events, 1 title fight.

A young fighter with a bright future is taking a big opportunity right here in the present. This exceptional Muay Thai fighter will be coming into this championship bout off two impressive wins here in the ALWC against Dimon Boets and Mini Clubman. With his opponent looking to have an overall advantage in all other areas Seamus will likely work hard to keep the fight standing and in the clinch. Though providing some distance and utilizing kicks is another possibility as well. He is an exciting young fighter that is a joy to watch.

“Bag of Bones” Michael Noonan 10-2-1(1-0) 7 KO’s, 1 fight of the night, 1 KO of the night, 7 main events, and 6 title fights.

Noonan is no stranger to big fights; he has been in the main event fight on 7 different cards. He loves the challenge and absorbs the attention with pleasure. He burst into the scene here in ALWC with a knockout over Molales and is looking to secure title. His awesome ground game should serve him well in this matchup. I look for him to try to ground and pound his opponent at every opportunity.

The Main event features Shannon Bannon and Alvaro Morales.

“The Cannon” Shannon Bannon 20-9(1-0) 19 KO’s, 2 fight of the night, 4 KO of the night, 7 main events, and 6 title fights.

Bannon is a primarily one sided fighter that the fans love. Of his 20 wins only one was left to the judges. His defensive game on the ground has improved through the years but his only offense still rides on his knockout power. He is a crowd pleaser and would like nothing more than to send the fans home with memories of a devastating right hand. A win here could put him right in line for a shot at the title against the winner of the Noonan/O Donnell fight.

Alvaro Morales 16-11(0-1) 11 KO’s, 2 submissions, 1 fight of the night, 1 KO of the night, 7 main events, and 7 title fights.

Morales are an awesome wrestler wants absolutely nothing to do with boxing Bannon. His wrestling and ground and pound are more than enough to dominate Bannon if he can take the fight there. He has a great career behind him and win here could solidify a future here at ALWC. Do not be surprised if he slips in a submission here as well as he has some ability to do that as well. When they met a long time ago Morales stopped him in the first round and would like nothing more than to do it again.
