Another NYCL Fight Night event about to be underway. This will be a crazy one and as always I, Maurice Simmons, will provide the most concise preview for y'all. So let's get into it!

MAIN EVENT

Frank Mir (4-3) takes on The "Demigod " Requis (1-1) in the NYCL Fight Night 5 main event! With his 4 fight winning streak just recently broken, Mir is looking to get back to his winning ways. The 26 year old fighter from Las Vegas is making his NYCL debut, and what better way to make it than a main event win on an NYCL Fight Night card?! He's a submission specialist, with 3 wins out of his 4 being by way of submission. Don't make the mistake of thinking he's only good in the ground because his other win is by KO. What's more, all of his wins, yes, ALL, have been in the very first round! So you have a guy that can submit or knock you out in the first round depending on his mood, sheesh, I'm glad I'm not fighting him. His opponent, the 25 year old fighter from Hell (Hell? Yeah!) is not one to take lightly. Requis is a world class boxer who's been at NYCL since the beginning of his Professional career. He knocked out his first opponent in just 38 seconds, 38 seconds! He has also never been in the second round. His big right hand can topple even some super heavyweights when it lands cleanly.

Prediction: Although Frank Mir has only been in QFC fights up until now I have him winning this fight. Requis can surprise us though so let's wait and see

CO MAIN-EVENT

Jacob Taylor (1-0) meets Lucas Bouchard (1-1) in the NYCL Fight Night 5 Co Main-event! Coming off his first professional win at NYCL 16, Taylor is looking to add another W to his tally as he faces his toughest challenge yet. The 21 year old English fighter is a BJJ brown belt and likes to keep his opponents working on the ground as he bullies them with countless submission attempts. His mindset going into a fight in "take him down and make him tap" with no ground control or stalling has been serving him well. He managed to make his last opponent tap with only 15 seconds left in the first round! Having started off his NYCL career with a win at NYCL 19, Bouchard has come back for more. The 21 year old fighter from Montreal is a master striker whose precise striking game can break any chin with the right amount of strikes. He likes to stay on the outside and deliver punishment with swift punches that hit more often than not. He ended his last fight in the first round and will no doubt be looking to replicate that this Wednesday night!

Prediction: A tough one, but I'll edge it to Jacob Taylor. He should be able to get this one to the ground and finish it

MATCH 3

Shinya "Tobikan Judan " Aoki (1-0) battles against Eduard Kelly in the third main card fight. Shinya Aoki will be making his NYCL debut. The 25 year old fighter from Shizuoka is a BJJ brown belt and he has great wrestling to get the fight where he wants it to be. He is a fighter that is never afraid to go for submissions no matter his position on the ground. He was able to submit his last opponent in the first round, and he did it from bottom position. His opponent Kelly will be looking to make a grand entrance into the professional MMA world. The 25 year old fighter from Baguio has a BJJ purple belt and his wrestling is said to be very good. I also heard from his camp that his striking skills are basic but very effective, my guess is that he'll try to use his striking advantage in this fight. His 2cm reach disadvantage shouldn't make things very hard for him. Debutants like him are exciting to watch over the years and I'm honored to have been able to cover his first fight.

Prediction: Aoki wins this one for me, provided his manager doesn't give him shit instructions of course. Jk Meth, sorry, Matth hehe.

MATCH 4

Razor Ramano (1-2) looks to improve his record when he goes against Todd Gallagher (1-0). The 19 year old Razor Ramano has set his sights on a victory as he makes his NYCL debut. Despite his young age, Ramano has built himself a strong skillset and is probably the most well rounded fighter in this card. His boxing, which is his favorite, is not where it should be but it absolutely makes the job easier for him. He likes to attack using single shots as opposed to combinations, for safety reasons I guess. His Muay thai looks so good when combined with his boxing. The body kicks eat away at his opponents and open up a window of opportunity for his boxing to get the finish. Now that I've covered his offensive skills, let's check out his defense. His wrestling helps protect him from takedowns against average wrestlers but is no match for great ones so it definitely needs some improvement which I'm sure with his young age will be no problem. Also making his NYCL debut is Todd Gallagher, the 25 year old fighter from Manchester. He ended his only fight in 5 seconds! How many times do you see that happening throughout the MMA world. He's a striker just like his opponent but he uses only boxing for offense. Since he's only fought a single 5 second professional fight there's not much we know about this fighter and we hope to see more from him in this fight. If he doesn't end it in record time of course.

Prediction: With the right strategy, Razor Ramano can win this. I go with him but don't rule out the possibility of Gallagher stealing this one.

MATCH 5

Sergei "The Problem" Magomedov (2-2) squares off against Marty "The Last Nightmare" Musa (1-1). The 24 year old Sergei is making his NYCL debut. Not only is he on a 2 fight win streak but both those fights ended by submission in the first round! A counter fighter, Magomedov let's his opponents lead the fight whilst trying to find a window of opportunity that he can exploit. Once on the ground, he uses a little bit of ground and pound to crack his opponent's defense so he can submit them. He can also be creative with his takedowns and get them from inside the clinch. His opponent, the 24 year old Nigerian, Musa, is equally as skilled. After losing his first NYCL fight, Musa is no doubt in a desperate search for a win. He packs a vicious ground and pound game similar to Smesh. You don't want to hang with this guy on the ground as he will find a way to maul you. He also has never been into the second round.

Prediction: this is the most interesting fight for me. Both guys are ground fighters but one is a blue belt while the other is a brown belt. You already know who I think will win, Magomedov with the sub. Just my prediction.
