Interview with the Sandman

Fighter profile of Darsin Bleak by Outlaw Bleak

Jake – Hello MMA fans, Jake Drake here!  I’ve recently retired from fighting and have taken on a new role as a ring side reporter for some of the top talents in the MMA world today.  My first ever piece is a one on one with a former sparring partner of mine, and one mean son of a bitch, Darsin Bleak.  Darsin, how are you today?

Darsin – Great man, fucking great!

Jake – Well, that’s great to hear.  I’m glad I’m not rolling around on the mat with you anymore, but in all due credit, you helped me have the success on the ground that I had.  Nobody I’ve ever fought has been as good as you.  But now, it’s all about you.  You’re the king of the stable, and one of the best lightweight fighters in the world.  But you’ve been given a unique opportunity to challenge for the 145 belt next week.  What was your mentality in accepting that fight?

Darsin – Dude, if you want to be the best, you have to beat the best.  I’ve pretty much run the table on the top talent here at BBFC.  There’s not much more for me to prove, and even though I’m going against a smaller, quicker fighter in Gracie, I won’t back down from a challenge.  So when Blaze asked if I would fight, I said hell yes.

Jake – No surprise there!  You’ve been a beast everywhere you’ve gone.  Speaking of which, did you know that your 17-0 start is historic?  You are currently the longest win streak undefeated fighter in the MMA universe.  How does that feel?

Darsin – Honestly, I had no clue until recently.  My manager informed me of that when it was brought to his attention last week.  I don’t read too much into it, but it is a bit humbling when you think of all the great fighters out there.

Jake – It’s definitely something special!  So, the fight of the week, month, hell, maybe even year is coming up for you.  Do you consider this test the biggest fight of your career?

Darsin – Eh, not really.  I just go in there and do what I have to do.  It’s a huge fight and a very tough test, and maybe it is the biggest fight in some peoples eyes.  But for me, it’s just another fight against another great fighter.  I expect a war, but I expect to win.

Jake – Many people think this will be your first loss.  Based on the fact that your going against a smaller opponent that will have some advantages over you when you guys are both pretty much evenly matched on the ground.  Do you think your size and strength will allow you to win or will you need to be mindful of his quick elusiveness in this match?

Darsin – Well, I hope to use my size to control the fight.  But there will always be that lingering chance that he’ll look to turn any attempted strike into a submission hold.  Fortunately, I’m not slouch on the ground either.

Jake – Do you plan to try and keep this standing or fight him strength on strength on the ground?

Darsin – Well, I’m not going to give out my game plan, but there’s no way this fight doesn’t happen on the ground.  As I said, to be the best, you have to beat the best.  So if I can beat him, it’ll prove to the world just how damned good I am.  And if he wins, then I’ll finally have something to focus on to improve.

Jake – Will this fight be a finish or a decision?

Darsin – What the hell is a decision?  Fuck leaving this to the judges.  Half of those guys are blind as hell, and half of what’s left is fucking mental.

Jake – Well, that’s an answer…  So what’s next if you win (or lose for that matter)?

Darsin – Well, I recently signed a new contract with BBFC.  I will continue to defend my title.  But in all honesty, I feel that the next level is calling my name.  After this contract, unless I get an offer I can’t refuse, I think I may test the waters and see if there is any interest for me in the unrestricted orgs so I can face some of the top fighters in the world.

Jake – You’ve won the title in every org you’ve ever fought in and never lost it.  How likely do you feel you’ll win the belt at the next level once you get there?

Darsin – It’s only a matter of time.  I don’t want the quick or easy path to the belt.  I want to put in my time and earn what I get.  But at the same time, if management thinks I deserve a shot, who am I to refuse?

Jake – So it’s a done deal then?  You’re going to go unrestricted?

Darsin – Well, yes.  It’s just a matter of when.

Jake – Well, that should be something to see!  You on the PPV market being hyped up!  I can’t wait.  In closing, any words for your upcoming opponent?

Darsin – Win or lose, let’s give them a fucking show bro!

Jake – You heard it!  Get ready for a great fight between two undisputed champions of BBFC!  It’s guaranteed to be a war, and I will be cage side watching the action and cheering on my boy!
