Event Preview: SOTF 6: Eye of the Tiger
Survival of the Fittest
2012-09-02, New York, Hard Knocks - New York
Author:Michel Sakr

After reaching new heights in SOTF 5, New York’s fastest rising fighting organization, Survival of the Fittest, in association with Canadian Fighter Clothing,  proudly presents, SOTF 6: Eye of the Tiger, an event that will be held on Sunday the 2nd of September live from Hard Knocks arena and will be headlined by the organization’s first ever title bout, which will be a fight between  Marshall Mathers and Nathan Summers for the SOTF welterweight title. Also on the card 8 other fights, let’s begin our fight per fight preview:

Matt Krohn v Henry Davis

We kick things of with the heavyweights. 18 year old Matt Krohn makes his promotional debut looking to secure his first professional win. In his way, 21 year old Henry Davis, making his second SOTF appearance and also looking forward to get his first career win. Both young men are primarily wrestlers, with Davis having the advantage in the striking game thanks to his boxing while also being significantly the bigger of the two, so will he get the win, or will Krohn provide the upset

Angel Rivera v Ryan De Pury

Next up on our card, It’s the Light-heavyweights. 20 year old Bronx fighter Angel Rivera will be hoping to pull off a major upset right from his professional debut when he takes on fellow New Yorker, 28 year old wrestler Ryan De Pury who looks like he has the advantage in most departments. And it is also worth noting that De Pury will have a HUGE reach advantage, as he is 35 cm taller than his opponent.

Max Henderson v Bob Swarley

In the middleweight division, BJJ purple belt Max Henderson welcomes Jamaican Muay Thai specialist Bob Swarley to the organization. Henderson who lost his SOTF debut against Henry Ballard will be looking to rebound, and to do so he must make sure he takes the fight to the ground and applies his superior grappling, while Swarley will try to shrug off the takedowns and stay on his feet in order to knock his opponent out.

Billy Bunter v Luis Chalas

And we move down to the lightweights. It’s the rematch that you fans asked for! After stealing the show at SOTF’s first event, Billy Bunter and Luis Chalas meet once again. Bunter who got the early knockout when they first met, suffered a setback at SOTF 2 after loosing to Charlie Luciano in a fight that earned both men ‘’fight of the night’’ bonus, but the English boxer still solidified his position as an exiting young fighter that fans love to root for. Meanwhile Chalas will be looking forward to keep his momentum going after his win against Cole Johnson at SOTF 2, and what better way to do so for the Muay Thai specialist than getting to avenge his only professional loss

 Nadi Tsunami v Ryan Apostle

Still in the lightweight division, impressively well-rounded Finnish fighter Nadi Tsunami will be looking to get his 3rd straight SOTF  win, when he welcomes Philippino boxer and wrestler Ryan Apostle to the organization in a 5 rounds showdown. Tsunami, already an established fighter in SOTF thanks his finishes of  William Cockburn and Ozzy Stanton, will hope to add another name to his victims list in his ascension to the top of the 155 division ladder, but Aposlte will definitely provide a tough test to the Finnish man

Jerome Johnson v James Yap

In the welterweight division, two young fighters with a 1-0 record will be making their respective promotional debuts. Fighting in his hometown is 18 year old BJJ purple belt Jerome Johnson who took him only 30 seconds to submit his opponent in his professional debut. But the Philippino fighter James Yap will surely provide him a tougher test, as he is a competent boxer and wrestler, but will that be enough to prevent the New Yorker from submitting him?

Mark Silva v Jake Rosholt

Back to the middleweights. 21 year old BJJ purple belt Mark Silva makes his SOTF debut hoping to put his career back on track after two straight losses, and thanks to his ‘’kill or be killed’’ mentality that is proved by the fact that none of fights ever went past the 3 minute mark of the first round, he could quickly become a fan favorite for the SOTF crowd. On the other side of the cage will be the veteran wrestler from Oklahoma, Jake Rosholt. Riding a three fights loosing streak, he as well will be looking to write a better chapter in his career with his new organization. While Rosholt looks like he will have the advantage on his feet, it will be anyone’s game on the ground

 Tyler Durdun v Frank Marko

In our co-main event of the evening, two heavyweights will be hoping to get their second SOTF win. Muay Thai expert Tyler Durdun will be looking to add another knockout to his record, when he clashes with the undefeated Greek fighter Frank Marko, who won all of his four professional fights via first round submissions! Will Marko’s grappling advantage be enough for him to keep his undefeated streak alive, or will Durdun’s Muay Thai be too much for him to handle? This fight has fight of the night written all over it

Marshall Mathers v Nathan Summers

And to the main event! For the first time ever in SOTF history, a title is on the line. Two of the best welterweights in New York will fight for the honor of being crowned the first ever SOTF champion. Sensational Muay Thai fighter and Detroit’s own  Marshall Mathers will be gunning for his 10th career knockout, meanwhile sensational boxer and wrestler and BJJ black belt  Nathan Summers will be hoping he finally get the title that his already incredible CV lacks. While it would be almost impossible to determine the better striker between the two, Summer posses one the most feared ground games in MMA today, and could be looking to be the first man to ever submit Mathers. With the two fighters having collected 11 ‘’of the night’’ awards  together, you just know you can’t miss this one!
