Robert Kelly: From R'n'B Hearthrob To BJJ Cob (Part 1)

With an undefeated record of 3 wins, Robert Kelly is a promising prospect. He's been a top Tokyo Middleweight for around a month now, and his last 2 wins - coming via submission in less than a minute - prove he's only scratching the surface of his potential.

“Music's always been a big part of my life” he explains. “When I was young, I'd listen to The Isley Brothers, Earth Wind and Fire, Donny Hathaway... Soul Music's greatest. Then as a teen I started writing and singing my own R'n'B songs.” It wasn't long before young Robert gained popularity in the Chicago area, his concerts growing fuller each time. His songs also gained recognition on the World Wide Web. Smooth serenades such as “When I Get You Down”, “Silky Legs (Love Triangle)” or “Double Leg, Double Life (Nobody Has To Know)” sung in his husky baritone voice, even became minor hits.

“I think I had a good thing going. I got 50k plays on my song 'Grind You Down (Until Dawn)' on Spotifa. All the ladies loved it. I was on that Jodeci tip”. But then, the unthinkable happened : allegations of sexual misconduct with teenage girls soon led to his “cancellation”. “I really don't get it. Even to this day I still don't get it. I've always treated ladies nicely, just like my papa taught me” he pleads. “When I realized I couldn't perform no more, I was devastated. I started drinking heavily and watching reruns of “Diff'rent Strokes” and “The Cosby Show” every night. And every single night I was having terrible nightmares about Gary Coleman” he says with a shiver.
